Early Life

KephkaelFull.jpg
Nikolai Imre Khostov was born and raised in Paragon City. From a young age he was groomed to succeed his father's place in the private corporation Future Pulse, Incorporated. Nikolai, or Nikki was he was called, went to an elite preschool, followed by an elite private grade school, elite private middle school, and elite private high school. As he was growing up, he had anything a child could dream of. Though his father, Aleksandr, and mother, Elizabeth, were both very busy, they both always made time for their son. When Nikki was ten, he became a brother. Nikki was not jealous of the attention his new sister, Abigail, received. He actually preferred to be left to his own devices.

In middle school, Nikolai demanded he stopped being called Nikki and went by Nik, feeling the former nickname being too childish. He had an image to maintain after all. Nik was smart in school, but only applied himself to the point that his parents didn't get involved in his life. As long as his schoolwork was doing well, they let him stay out with his friends. In high school, they pretty much let him do what he wanted, so long as he wasn't in trouble with the law, he was doing well in school, and he did his chores around the house.

Making of a Criminal

KephkaelStreet.jpg
Nik didn't get in trouble with the law, but that was just because he never got caught. Most of his smarts were geared toward thefts and managing other young criminals. With him, it was more the thrill of it than actually getting stuff, since he got almost anything he wanted from his parents. His high school days were filled with late night burglaries, though generally low-scale stuff, just enough to make his "minions" happy.

After high school, Nik went to college, majoring in business management. He was, after all, going to work for and eventually replace his father. While attending college, he also hung around Future Pulse, getting acquainted with what he perceived to be his future corporate empire. The latest R&D was in the field of repulsor technology. The corporation was intending to use it to create repulsor lifts for such things as elevators and vehicles.

Nik's imagination, however, had better ideas. While still in college, he planned and designed, so that when he was placed at his father's right hand in the corporation, he could manipulate the business to create for him a suit of techno-armor that used repulsor technology as defensive shields and as offensive boosts to his own punches. Waiting patiently while his suit was in development, he also started his own little embezzlement fund. A few people he trusted put the different parts in a humanoid suit Nik could wear.

When Nik graduated from college, however, he was informed he would be taking up the position of Senior Vice President in charge of the new office in Russia. He protested at first, though his father's decision was final. He was able to have some of his trusted employees transferred with him, and the initial parts of the suit went with them. His father's insistence that he spend some time in the mother country turned out to be a good way for Nik to ensure his father didn't stick his nose where it didn't belong. Never mind that it was his father's corporation...

Being wound too tightly has consequences. For Nik, it happened outside a bar as he was walking down the street one night. What Nik saw as a sorry excuse for a human being was begging him for money. Nik rightly assumed this money would be used for booze and Nik declined, not exactly being the most generous of men. After being followed for a bit and incessantly given excuse after excuse as to why Nik should hand over some money, Nik had had enough and snapped. His fist connected with the man's jaw and soon the man's face resembled hamburger.

Nik didn't want to call his father, but the legal advisers notified Aleksandr anyway. He flew to Russia and pulled in a few favors to get the ball working on getting Nik out of this jam. He didn't like it by any means, but Nik was his son. While Nik was going through the legal processes, Aleksandr took over the operations of the Russia offices. He was not pleased with what he found. He uncovered the shady operations and embezzlement.

While in jail, Nik met Apollo Rovenski. The two shared a common interest in advanced technology and built a relationship around that interest. Nik was let out before his father could make the necessary calls to have him held. He immediately went to the lab and recovered his nearly finished suit, donning it to break out and flee. From there on out, Apollo became one person Nik trusted. Apollo supplied Nik with the necessary parts and materials to finish his suit and perform upgrades now and then.

Using the KF-KL suit, Nik ran with Apollo under the name Kephkael. Eventually becoming Apollo's right hand man in the World Domination League and later the Final Order in the Rogue Isles. Nik has since developed his technology with help from Apollo to create a second suit, using smaller components and limited cybernetics.

During his career, he has developed the KF-KL Mark II, a lighter suit of armor with all the capability of the original. He has also developed cybernetic implants that give him the durability of the KF-KL suit and all the capabilities of the suit without having to wear the armor. However, he is still often seen in his full armor for the intimidation factor.

KF-KL Technology

Kephkael2Full.jpg
KF-KL technology is advanced repulsor technology cybernetically integrated into a suit of armor with direct neural interface to the wearer. The most advanced KF-KL technology is implanted directly into a person without the need for an external shell.

KF-KL Shielding

KF-KL technology can create shields to deflect incoming attacks. The shields are most effective against energy attacks, but they can be configured to protect against most other effects as well.

KF-KL Melee

Forming a small repulsor field around the fist, KF-KL technology can enhance a person's punches. While the field is not large enough to repel a foe, there is a possibility of the repulsor field disrupting mechanical or neural links and causing temporary disorientation.

KF-KL Stealth

An unexpected side effect of the KF-KL fields is that when tuned to a certain operation range, the KF-KL fields redirect light and sound around the user. The bending of light leaves a slight shimmering effect in the air.

KF-KL Flight

The original purpose of the technology of Future Pulse, Inc. was flight. Nik incorporated this ability into KF-KL technologies. Using repulsor flight nodes in his gloves and boots, he can hover at a standstill and low speeds or fly at higher speeds.
