Background and History
Leona was born to a comfortable middle class family of five in New Jersey. She was the youngest of three sisters, the other two being twins five years older than she. Her father was a minister and her mother was a Physician and both worked together to create an uplifting, loving home for their daughters. When their oldest children hit puberty and developed strange mental abilities, their parents were there to encourage and aid them. When the twins were 18, they were encouraged to go to Paragon University so that they could use their powers for the greater good. Their parents even paid the way. They were likewise supportive, though a bit uneasy, when Leona’s ears began to warp and grow and she suddenly sprouted a tail and grew fangs. They ensured that Leona’s hair was always styled and brushed in such a way that it hid the ears and that her tail was tucked into her somewhat baggy clothes to keep the teasing from the other high school kids at bay. It worked well enough. Leona had some good friends among the less popular teenagers. The only real teasing Leona was subjected to was the assumption that she was a lesbian due to her lack of a boyfriend or, really, any apparent interest in men. That assumption couldn’t have been further from the truth- it was just that she was afraid to fall in love and get dumped over her…interesting features. The lack of distraction kept her studious, though, and she pulled all A’s in school and scored a 30 on the ACT, which earned her a lovely scholarship to Rutgers University. Both parents were extremely proud of their daughter, her mother in particular, as Leona had decided to go into the medical field in her footsteps. They paid for what was left of the tuition that the scholarship didn’t pay for and gave her a nice allowance every week so she could focus exclusively on school and wouldn’t have to get a job.
In school, she never had below an A in her life except for her last semester in college. That was about the time her mutation began to manifest itself as more than a physical thing. Her powers emerged during the night she lost her virginity…which was entirely not a conscious decision on her part. She’d been heavily drugged at the time. Her body reacted with extreme violence in order to protect her and when she awoke, she was tangled up with the dead body of her date. His corpse looked as though it had been battered with radiation somehow, though she couldn’t place for the life of her why. She did, however, know well enough that she needed to hide the body or all Hell would fall upon her. For all she knows, it’s still buried near the creek behind her old dormitory.
The event deeply disturbed her, however, and she couldn’t shake the horrible feeling of what had happened. Not of what she’d done to him, you understand, but of what he had done to her. Her mind was on other things than her education now. Worry, fear, and paranoia distracted her and her perfect grades slipped into the realm of C’s and D’s. She never went so far as to get an F, but suffice it to say, she only barely graduated. And to this day, she still will not allow another person to get her drinks for her unless she is monitoring every movement and she most certainly never lets said drinks out of her sight.
The last semester doomed her for Grad school, however, and Leona didn’t even bother to apply anywhere. She did, however, still want to be a doctor, even if she had to do it unlicensed. She opened up a small, somewhat crude clinic in her own home where she took care of anybody who needed it, most of the time without even asking for payment.
She’d been spending lot of time with her best friend, Kiearra at that point, looking over the smaller woman’s shoulder and watching her back (Kiearra tended to get into a lot of trouble, being somewhat on the hot-headed side). She also spent a lot of time listening to her talk about things like world domination and instituting new global policies and toppling governments. It always occurred to Leona that her friend was probably insane, as it was clear that she was quite serious, but that didn’t deter her from sticking by her. Protecting Kiearra helped her learn to control her powers and discover new abilities…such as the ability to actually heal rather than harm, though the healing process was excruciatingly painful for the person she was helping. It came in very handy when she was assisting her friend… running “errands” for her, keeping at her side even as bullets and punches flew, stepping in if she’d gotten hurt. It was during one such excursion that Leona got herself caught and, being a mutant, she was dragged off to the Zig. Her charges were theft, destruction of property, operating a clinic without a license, quite a few counts of murder, and a dubious accusation of cannibalism.
Leona had never really experienced much prejudice for being a mutant, given her parents accepting natures and having been able to hide it for such a long time. Even in college, when she revealed her secret to a few people, she hadn’t been persecuted. It was in jail that she received the worst treatment of her life. Her cellmate was human through and through, but had committed so many horrendous and vicious crimes in Paragon City that no other prison would take her. The woman cut off Leona’s tail more than once, though it always grew back, and the torture only continued from there. It wasn’t only her cellmate …the guards were amazingly horrible to her as well. She found sanctuary with a couple of other people- a fellow mutant and a strange, black-eyed alien who both watched her back (and she in turn watched theirs). Leona slowly became able to defend herself with her natural abilities, despite her mutant powers being subdued by the prison. She developed a primal viciousness that matched her lion-like features and instilled in her a sudden rage that caused her to completely shred the face of her cellmate.
And that was only in the first year. The second half of her two-year stint in prison was far less eventful, though she spent most of it listening intently to her fellow mutant and his alien friend as they made small speeches about inequality and persecution… and as they talked at length about the Rogue Isles. To them, it was a land of opportunity, but only if you could get in with the right people to watch your ass. Leona’s particular gifts would be welcome there and her deadly bite would help her to survive.
Lo and Behold…at the beginning of her third year in captivity, the far wall of the prison yard suddenly exploded and Leona found herself being pulled from her cell by Arachnos soldiers.
Personality
She is the looming figure with rapier fangs, the heart of a lion, an iron liver, and a kind, maternal soul.
The Good
Essentially, Leona is a decent-hearted person. She is quiet and keeps to herself 95% of the time, usually prefering to abide by the saying "It's better to keep your mouth shut and be thought a fool, than to open it be known as one". She won't join a group already in discussion unless she is invited, even if she knows someone or everyone involved. Once she is invited in, she still prefers to stand just off to the side and listen instead of give any input. When actually engaged in conversation, Leona has a bold wit and a blunt demeanor, though rarely goes out of her way to make anybody look foolish or immature. She has an extremely maternal bent. She is a natural caregiver, keeping watch over the people who surround her as a sheepdog guards its flock.
The Bad
"Leona, don't you think you drink too much?"
"Put down that bottle of sake, Skorp, and THEN tell me that."
---
"Geeze, Leo...slow down."
"...I will maul your face, Chel."
Leo drinks. A lot. Her body takes quite a long time to become inebriated and once it gets to that point, it never lasts that long, but she ensures an extended period of at least mild intoxication by keeping two flasks on hand at all times. One usually holds rum, the other whiskey. She got into drinking in college, though had never consumed as much as she did in once she got into jail. It was smuggled in by her second cellmate, who only asked for a handful of interesting favors (which shall remain undisclosed at this time for poor Leona's sanity) in return. It kept her calm and content, even through the treatment from the guards, and earned her the nickname "Imbibo Leana". Fierce as a lion, drunk as a skunk.
The Ugly
Though mostly calm and quietly friendly, Leona is known as the Lioness for more than just her appearance. She won't hesitate to dig her fangs and claws into somebody if they harm someone she cares for. During these instances, she generally flies into a blind rage and ends up killing and eating whoever managed to piss her off that far.
An interesting instance of her rage recently occured when she was led to believe that somebody had killed her best friend. The offender actually took flight to get away from her and it was at that point that a pair of massive wings, covered in the same downy fuzz as her ears and tail, broke through the flesh of her back and grew in an agonizingly painful short span of time. ...and, ignoring the searing pain, Leona was able to take to the air herself and hunt down the man she thought had killed Kiearra.
He didn't get the benefit of a short death.

Hobbies
Leo plays a mean trumpet. She managed a minor in music during her busy college years and continues to tote a horn with her as she moves from place to place. She's not the greatest player in the world, but usually produces a nice little sound. She never plays slow tunes, finding them a little depressing for her tastes. Despite her usual musical preferences (Korn, Drowning Pool, Rob Zombie), Leona only ever plays upbeat jazz when she plays her horn.
Weaknesses
The only adverse effect her drinking seems to have on her thus far is that it generally inhibits her ability to properly aim her attacks in battle. Because of this, Leo can not fight by herself in a general battle. She is best at being the support for somebody else or even a group of people.
As mentioned before, Leona has a severe paranoia when it comes to her drinks. If she thinks that something she is drinking has been touched by anybody but a bartender (who she will always watch like a hawk), she will instantly and wordlessly pour her drink out and leave. She's left a good many dates this way, which is a good indication of why she's never had a boyfriend or lover to speak of.
Strengths and Abilities
Her blast attacks are nothing to write home about. She can do a little harm if she needs to cause a distraction, but her true strength lies in her power to infect her enemies, breaking down their abilities and defenses, and in the power to heal her allies. Though her healing is more than likely more painful than the injury itself, the pain is over relatively quickly and leaves her ally or allies feeling just a little bit stronger than before, provided they haven't passed out from the pain.
Beyond the power to heal during battle, she also possesses the more conventional ability to mend wounds and provide first aid. She's the first person those who know her usually come to if they're sick and she's played "catcher" for more than one mother in labor. Back home, she also performed more than one "back alley abortion", though she has refused to do so ever since her last patient died of complications during the procedure. Given the nature of some people in the Isles, she never keeps hardcore painkillers on hand, but usually has a small supply of antibiotics and over-the-counter medicines. What she doesn't have, she can usually get without too much trouble.
Friends and Associates
Kiearra Orrick- Leo's old college buddy and her best friend, whom she affectionately calls "Boss".
True Skorpion- He's her drinking buddy. They get along well enough and she almost figures she can trust him. Almost. They seem to get along best when he's got a bottle of sake and she's got a bottle of Jack Daniels.
Fiction
- Leona Green/TheTasteofGuilt - Mature themes and all that. Don't read if you're easilly bothered.
Trivia
- Leona hates catgirls...even though if you think about it, she's technically somewhat of a catgirl herself (if you take away the wings, that is).
- Her sisters are well-to-do Paragonian heroines known as Fey Delphi and Sibylline. Occasionally, though they don't run into one another much, she sees a birthday or Christmas present, usually dropped in some crazy, random place.
- The older twin, Sibylline, often keeps in contact with Leona. She has a link mental link to her that their other sister doesn't possess and so can always tell, no matter where she is, when Leo is distressed. When Leona is contacted through the link, she appears to zone out completely as she has a mental conversation with her psychic sister.
- Her parents still reside in New Jersey. She hadn't seen or contacted them since college up until recently, when her sisters dragged her off for a visit.
OOC...stuff
I'm still fleshing out Leona's personality, believe it or not. She hasn't gotten a chance to meet very many people (and won't for awhile...damn computer, not working anymore).
I find it amusing to play a character that has some aspect that is the complete opposite of something I have. Leona, for example, is amazing when it comes to Math. Hell, she majored in Biomathematics and had all A's until her last semester, if that tells you something. But I, on the other hand, can't even pass Elementry Algebra.
