Lucrezia
From Unofficial Handbook of the Virtue Universe
Desperate, enthusiastic, lonely, egotistical, attention-driven...
Ooo, oo, and vain.
- @Talen Lee
History
Raven hair and ruby lips
Sparks fly from her fingertips
Echoed voices in the night
She’s a restless spirit on an endless flight
- Eagles, Witchy Woman
In the heady days of the 1970s, the Midnight Squad emerged into the public eye as a team of costumed superheroes, and none of them captured the public's imagination more than the self-proclaimed "Temptress of the Night", Lucrezia. Not content to merely defend the innocent from the horrors of the Netherworld, Lucrezia devoted herself equally to a life of wanton excess. She was at all the hottest parties, she always had a rock musician or a young starlet on her arm, and when she spread for a Playboy spread, the centerfold became a fixture of dorm rooms nationwide. However, Lucrezia soon began to grow weary of a life of debauchery, and in the early 1980s she fled into obscurity.
It wasn't until after the Rikti War that she took up the mantle of a superhero once again. The cultists of the Circle of Thorns had emerged from their subterranean city to plague an unsuspecting city, and the hero Arcanum sought out the help of someone well-versed in fighting them. She found Lucrezia living in a remote chateau in Europe and convinced her to return to the United States once more to help a new generation of heroes.
Older, wiser, and more than a little thicker, Lucrezia now spends her days teaching Mystic Studies courses at Paragon City University. In her free time, she collects mysterious tokens that she believes will enhance her magical powers.
Mystery
A thousand years have come and gone
But Time has passed me by
Stars stopped in the sky
Frozen in the everlasting view
- Rush, Xanadu
To the average citizen of Paragon City, Lucrezia appears to be a plain middle-aged woman. To her closest friends she reveals that she was born in the fifteen century, and has extended her life through black magic. This is, of course, untrue.
Unknown to Lucrezia, the truth is that she is an immortal as old as history; recruits of Ouroborous have reported seeing someone they suspect to be Lucrezia in ancient Rome, and archaeological hints to her existence have been found going back over five thousand years.
Is she a demoness in human guise? A child of the Gods? An immortal survivor of the great flood? An adventurous mortal who foolishly supped on the ambrosia of the gods? Not even Lucrezia knows how she came to exist in this this eternal manner.
Destiny
From out of the mouth of the monster
He rescues the maiden fair
But we know she's a demon
Come to lure him to the demon's lair
- Genesis, The Lady Lies
Lucrezia is, above all else, proud, vain and egotistical. She wants to be the most beautiful, the most famous, and the most powerful sorceress in all of history. If Lucrezia feels like she isn't being properly praised for her perfection, or feels like someone else is outshining her, her classy demeanor quickly becomes venomous.
Like the wicked witches of old, Lucrezia frequently threatens to turn people who displease her (especially pretty girls) into frogs, pigs or other loathsome creatures. She is usually bluffing, especially when in the City of Heroes, where the law takes a dim view of such behavior.
Using her magic, Lucrezia may travel between different "shards" of reality at will, living parallel lives in each. However, a heavy toll is extracted each time she does this.
