From the Desk of Dr. Karl Lenkoff, MD

Head Psychiatrist, PPD

Office 2251, 5117 Freedom Plaza

To the Desk of Chief Conrad Boncho

As requested, I have completed the rehabilitation of Officer Magnus Hiller, aka Magmauler. Officer Hiller has been fully cleansed of any trace of the drug Superadine and has demonstrated no addiction to the drug following treatment. Unfortunately for Officer Hiller, the mutagenic effects of the drug are permanent, leaving the young officer much different than the man I first met during his admission to the undercover program.

As part of the rehabilitation of Officer Hiller my team performed an extensive battery of testing, both physically and mentally, to ascertain his suitability to return to work for the department. While he performed much better than we initially suspected, it is our belief that Officer Hiller is unfit for return to regular duty as a police officer due mostly to his physical appearance as a Troll.

Officer Hiller's test results indicate that while the drug has indeed impacted his mental faculties, the damage is not as severe as initially suspected. His speech is most affected, giving many the impression that his intelligence is that of a mentally handicapped individual, or small child. Officer Hiller is neither. Despite his inability to properly convey his thoughts, he is in fact still a bright individual.

The effects of the Superadine exposure seem to have slowed, rather than diminished, Officer Hiller's mental faculties. As such, I feel that a return to active duty would not be Officer Hiller's, or the public's, best interests.

Attached, find a background profile and the various test results that you requested.

I don't know what you have in mind for Magnus, but I do hope it won't bring the poor man to any more grief than we've already rained down on him.

Your friend,

Karl

Before the Force

Born in the Swiss capital of Bern, Magnus grew up in a fairly normal, nuclear family. He and his sister went to good schools and earned decent grades. When the children were in their mid-teens, their father was transferred to a position in Paragon City and the family moved to Founder's Falls.

Magnus attended high school in Founder's Falls where he was a star lineman for the football team. Magnus had an easier time adjust to American life than the other members of his family, which is perhaps why he chose to stay and finish school here when his father was transferred back to Bern shortly after the start of his senior year.

During that last year of school he met and fell in love with Caroline Metcalf. The two were inseparable, and shortly after graduation they eloped and were married in Las Vegas. Magnus took a job with the Paragon City Police Department and Caroline worked as an executive assistant with a large law firm in Steel Canyon. They were blessed.

Everything Changes

Two years after being married and the Hillers were no longer so fortunate. Caroline had lost her job during corporate downsizing, and was now pregnant with the couple's first child. Struggling for money, Magnus accepted a high paying, high risk undercover assignment to infiltrate the Superadine trade in Paragon.

Magnus was given the nickname 'Mauler' and introduced to an underground meta-human fight club. His tremendous physical size and athletic ability quickly made him a fan favourite, and his brutal defeat of a high ranking Outcast gained him favour with the Trolls who accepted him into the gang. Magnus soon found himself working in the Superadine trade, keeping precise notes of every deal and every individual involved.

Magnus saw little of his wife, and even missed the birth of his daughter due to the long hours required by his new position. As time wore on, the couple's relationship became strained, and there were frequent arguments. During one particular fight, Magnus, still feeling the affects of Superadine, lost his temper and struck his wife.

It was the breaking point for the pair. Caroline took young Kaitlyn and left Magnus, to live with her family. Magnus threw himself back into his work, trying to forget the terrible incident. When the divorce papers came, he lost himeself in grief and accidentally overdosed on Superadine.

Seeing that their undercover operative was losing himself in his work, the department pulled the plug on the operation early. Even with the early termination, the project was still a huge success with over 100 arrests made and over $30 million of raw Superadine recovered.

Magnus was taken to rehab, where he was successfully cured of Superadine addiction, although his Troll-like appearance and abilities persist.

The Troll

Magnus is for all intents and purposes a Troll. He bears the signature green skin, although not the horns or tusks prevalent among many of the Trolls. His speech is very much that of 'troll-speak' and his manner is often reminiscent of a Troll with his 'smash first' approach to most situations.

His physical abilities are in line with those of regular Troll lieutenants, although at a heightened power-level for an unknown reason. Most notable among his abilities are his incredible strength and near invincibility.

Strength

Magnus possesses incredible physical strength. Lab testing shows that he is capable of lifting in excess of 25 tons and on the department training course he was able to lift a SWAT van overhead and throw it close to 200 yards.

While the strength would be a definitive advantage in the hands of a normal officer, Magnus's slowed decision making abilities and explosive temper make him unpredictable and too dangerous for standard police duty.

Invincibility

Magnus displays a resistance to injury that exceeds most trolls. Bullets, bats, knives have little effect on the big man. He is even able to shrug off most energy based attacks, although they do seem to have more affect than physical attacks.

Combined with his incredible strength, Magnus's invincibility makes him perfectly suited to more dangerous assignments, like battling the deadlier inhabitants of Paragon City, such as Arachnos, Nemesis, and the Devouring Earth.

Since the Rehab

Since completing his rehabilitation Magnus has lived in PPD housing under strict supervision performed using an automated surveillance drone ((Shield Drone Pet)). While Magnus himself is not a threat to the public at large, his appearance has already caused incidents of violence against him. With his heightened abilities and temper it is best if such instances are avoided.

Magnus has not seen his wife or daughter since the night he struck Caroline, although he has received letters and pictures. As he looks at the pictures of his little 'Katy', one can see the man in Magnus rise to the surface as tears roll down his face. While Magnus wants nothing more than to see his daughter, and talk to his ex-wife, Caroline has yet to relent to his demands fearing the 'monster' her old flame has become.

In the months since his rehab ended, Magnus has accepted a few assignments to further his evaluation. Using his intimate knowledge of the denizens of the Hollows, and information provided by his old handler Lieutenant Wincott, Magnus was able to effectively dismantle the Outcast and Troll organizations within the area, even defeating the leadership of both groups (Frostfire and Atta respectively).

Magnus still retains his old self-confidence, and now bears a willingness to step into the line of fire to protect others. He is perfectly suited to 'hero work' should a leader capable of controlling the big man be found.

Accomplishments

Magnus has begun making a name for himself. Whispered among criminals, he is becoming an object of respect and fear. While most of the rumors surrounding exploits are bogus, some of his accomplishments are impressive indeed.
