Personality

If one were to sum up Fon's personality in a single phrase, "Business before pleasure" would be accurate. Fon usually displays little emotion and is incredibly calm under fire. In the time he has served with Arachnos, he has earned a reputation for being extremeley pragmatic. While he lacks the sadistic behaviour seen in some Arachnos agents, he can be quite ruthless in neutralizing anything he sees as a threat to his objectives.

Despite being a villain, Fon is not a man without honor and if a deal is made with him he will do his best complete that deal. Of course his pragmatism means that he may not necessarily complete his side of a bargain exactly as intended if he views the person who he is working with as too inefficient.

Most would think that he is one of Arachnos' Mu Mystics, but he only really pays them lip service. He does not openly express it but he carries a strong hatred for the Mu.

True Motives

While Magus Fon gives the impression of complete loyalty to Arachnos. This is in fact a facade, the only reason he serves Arachnos is to ultimateley retrieve the Orb of Saguenay. All other goals come second, anything that would get in the way of the Orb's retrieval must be destroyed.

Magus Fon has a link to the Orb, and can sense the location of it for distances on the order of several miles. He knows the Orb is being kept somewhere in the Isles, but the massive amount of magical energies that are the result of the number of Supers and Ley Line activity in the area make it impossible to determine the exact location of the Orb.

The only way for him to find the Orb is to infiltrate Arachnos and locate it via more mundane means. Of course there is the problem of what to do once it is found. Arachnos only knows of the massive amounts of magical energy contained within it and so far have been unable unlock these energies for any useful purpose. Most likeley it is stored somewhere with other artifacts that Arachnos has no need to destroy but can't find immediate use for. It is very likely that there will be heavy security around it and finding a way to retrieve it without being killed or alerting Arachnos to its true power and purpose will prove difficult even if it is found.

History

Saguenay

To understand Fon, one has to understand the history of the Orb. The Orb orignates from Saguenay, a civilization composed of people who fled north from Oranbega during the war. Using their magics the Saguenayans raised a massive Island from the waters of Ungava Bay south east of Akpotok Island

Saguenay grew and prospered and went on to on to persist for centuries after the civilizations of Mu and Oranbega collapsed, but this peace was not destined to last forever. The war the people of Saguenay had fled would soon find them.

Centuries passed and life for the Saguenayans went on much as it was in Oranbega. This peace was eventually shattered by the remnants of Mu the Oranbegans had spared. These Mu remnants struck swiftly and without mercy. The attackers numbered only a few thousand, but the people of Saguenay, descended from the pacifists and the magically weak of Oranbega, were not prepared for war. Once numbering in the hundreds of thousands, they were reduced to only hundreds in a matter of days.

The survivors, composed mostly of Saguenay's strongest mages, were divided on what should be done. A few chose to flee as they had during the first war. Most realized that the Mu remnants would hunt them and their descendants down no matter where they fled.

Cudata, the leader of the survivors and a former member of the ruling class of Saguenay, knew that the Mu outnumbered and outmatched them and proposed that a gateway to the demonic realms be opened so that a pact could be made. Many of the survivors were well aware that this is what the Oranbegans had done in the war, but most of them no longer cared about the consequences. The survivors now only wanted revenge for the Mu's genocide.

And so, the ritual was enacted, summoning a minor demon general. The pact was formed, the demons would lend their power in the annihilation of the Mu invaders and in exchange, a single survivor would be chosen to fuse his soul with the demon General, the earliest texts that record the destruction of Saguenay only refer to this demon as "The Laughing Son of the Dark".

All expected the General to choose Cudata, as she was the leader and the strongest mage amongst them. Instead the demon chose one of the weaker mages, Raxes. Raxes had been a simple healer before the Mu invasion and was fearful at was about to occur, but he was an honorable man and knew his duty to his people.

Raxes and the "The Laughing Son of the Dark" stood in the middle of the ritual chamber as all the gathered mages watched, curious as to what the end result would be. Just before the merge, Raxes turned to the demon and asked a single question, "Why?". The demon General spoke not a word but merely grinned at him. Raxes and the survivors were puzzled by this response, but there was no time to question it.

The demon placed his hand upon Raxes' chest which was followed a sudden flash that temporarily blinded those in the room. As there vision returned they were witness to Raxes writhing on the floor in pain, consumed in hellfire. Some attempted to rush forward to aid him but were held back by the other mages. To Raxes the agony he experienced was the worst of his existence and felt as though it lasted for hours. After mere minutes the fires consuming him subsided and Raxes lay still for several seconds. Cudata stepped forward to help him, Raxes shakily, but calmly stood up, steadied by Cudata. He turned his head and smiled to her saying, "My leader, we have work to do."

While the new Raxes was confused by the jumble of memories he now possessed, he knew exactly what must be done. He told the gathered mages of a ritual that would give them untold power and make the Mu suffer dearly for their actions. He would do for the surviving mages what the demon General had done for him. At first they were hesitant, but Raxes' was able to convince them, pointing out that he was still very much the same and that with the power they would be given would ensure that they never need fear the Mu again.

In effort to help convince the others, Cudata stepped forward as the first to be merged. The demon chosen for this was known as Nex, the General's second in command and lover. Like Raxes she was fearful, and like Raxes the process was incredibly painful. Raxes helped her to her feet when it was done, she smiled to the gathered mages, beckoning them,"Join us" she said.

Each mage paired off with a demon chosen from the General's most powerful servants and soon their stood a group of mages all empowered with demonic energies. Raxes called to the mages as Cudata stood with him. The infernal mages gave a warcry in unison, the ceiling of the cavern began to break apart as the mages ascended to the surface.

The Mu had suffered surprisingly few casualties and soon after the attack had begun to pick through the ruins for anyone left alive. The Mu were unprepared for what happened next. They heard a roar that came from beneath earth. It was near silent at first, barely noticeable, But then grew into a deafening sound that could be heard all the way to the mainland.

The ground suddenly erupted beneath them. The Mu barely had time to react, but quickly assembled themselves but not before a large number of them were killed. Raxes and the Saguenayans forced the Mu to fall back to the southern end of the island. Many of the Mu were brutally slaughtered in the process, but kept fighting.

Knowing they could not win on their own, the majority of the Mu used all their remaining energy to raise a protective shield. The remainder of them began chanting, , pooling their energy. The Saguenayans quickly realized what was happening. The Mu were summoning their goddess.

The Saguenayans threw themselves at the Mu defenses putting all their effort into stopping the summoning. The Mu fell one by one, their bodies drained of magical energy as they put all their remaining strength into maintaining the shield. The Saguenayan's efforts were not enough though. They rushed at the Mu just as they completed the summoning. Raxes and the mages were thrown back by a blast of magical energy. There amongst the dead Mu stood Hequat.

The battle raged on for nearly an hour. Though most of her followers were now dead, Hequat bared enough residual energy to defeat the Saguenayans. She did not have enough power to destroy them, merely bind them. Hequat called on the remainder of her power, pulling the demon empowered mages to her, ripping their souls from their bodies and binding them into a magic artifact that would come to be known as the Orb of Saguenay.

Having used the last of her power to defeat the Saguenayans, Hequat vanished. Raxes woke up among the ruins of Saguenay, having somehow been spared the fate of his fellows. Raxes was initially confused over what had happened, but gradually pieced the events together. After many days of searching he discovered the Orb amid the rubble.

Raxes quickly found that he did not possess the ability to free his comrades from their prison. He deemed it safer to store the Orb on nearby Akpotok Island, placing numerous magic based traps to guard it. He then set off southward back towards Oranbega.

Return to Oranbega

Raxes eventually came to thr ruins of Oranbega. Overgrowth covered what little remained aboved ground. Finding the entrance into the buried city, Raxes sought out the any that remained alive. While he did find the Oranbegans, they could no longer be called "living" in a sense. There physical bodies had been stripped of them.

He explained all that had happened at Saguenay, careful to leave out the exact location of the Orb or Saguenay itself. He then beseiched them to aid him in freeing his allies. In exchange he would offer the Saguenayans' service in ridding the world of the Mu.

The Oranbegans not only refused but claimed Raxes and the Saguenayans were traitors for fleeing the war. The Oranbegans attacked Raxes in anger. Raxes put up quite the fight but was inevitably defeated and killed.

Reincarnation

Just prior to the Saguenayans merging with the demons, The Laughing Son of the Dark had enacted a ritual to ensure that they would not be sent to the infernal realms if their physical bodies were destroyed. Instead Raxes and the Saguenayans, had they not been bound into the Orb, would be reincarnated into human bodies upon death.

The General had put several limitations in place, for reasons that perhaps only he could understand. When reincarnated, the Saguenayans would not remember who they were initially but would eventually manifest their full power in a single lifetime. Several subconscious commands and minor enchantments had been put in place as well.

The Saguenayans would be able to remember their past selves, but only with great difficulty or if the knowledge was truly needed. They would also be able sense each others presence, though given the memory loss, they might not always understand the significance. Finally they would have the instinct to hide their powers.

From then to the present, Raxes was reborn each time he died. In some of his incarnations Raxes learned of what he was and would attempt to do everything in his power to open the Orb. In others he never gained any knowledge of Saguenay or the Mu. Even when he did remember, he always failed in finding a way to free his brethren.

Pre Arachnos

Raxes' current incarnation was born as Samuel Henderson in Cartwright, Canada. As with most of his past selves, people never really suspected their to be anything immediately different about him. Samuel had a rather nondescript childhood and was a reclusive boy prefering to stay home and read rather than play with other children.

At age ten his powers manifested. Having a demon pop into existence when one is alone can be quite a terrifying experience, but he eventually came to accept this as normal. Initially he simply tried to ignore them, of course this didn't work very well. At the very least they would obey him enough not to reveal themselves to anyone or cause any serious trouble, but people did notice unusual things would happen in the neighborhood around the Henderson home. Fortunatly it remained as harmless pranks at worst, personal possessions going missing, occasional minor vandalism, nothing that could be considered serious and often these events were attributed to local hoodlums.

Of course all these things could be credited primarily to the self named "Eddie" of the three demons that manifested in the beginning. The other two were Bob and Albert, Eddie having taken the liberty naming the other two. Bob would often join Eddie in his foarays, while Albert was content to browse through young Samuel's small collection of books. Samuel learned not to care much what Bob and Eddie did so long as they didn't actually hurt anyone or cause something to come back to him.

That changed when Samuel was thirteen. It wasn't that Eddie was dumb, rather most of his problems stemmed from being overly impulsive and not thinking things through. The Henderson home had developed a minor rodent problem. Eddie and, with some convincing from him, Bob had taken to making crude live traps to catch mice in the basement. The mice would then be released and used for target practice for small blasts of flame from Eddie and Bob.

This apparently went on for several weeks without incident. That is until a stray flame hit one of the wooden support beams of the house. Albert was able to get Samuel out alive, but unfortunately Samuel's parents both died in the fire.

Bob never forgave himself for the incident. Even Eddie was a bit remorseful for it. Arson investigators were unable to determine exactly what caused the fire, but noted that whatever it was had caused the flames to be unusually intense. The only remains they ever found were a handful of unidentifiable bone fragments. The entire family, Samuel included, were declared deceased.

Samuel and the demons headed off into the Canadian wilderness. Samuel's reasons for doing so were mostly out of fear, which was made worse by some rather colorful descriptions from Eddie of what would happen to Sam and the demons if anyone found out the true cause of the fire.

They spent several years wandering Canada. They tended to avoid people, which wasn't exactly difficult given that northern Canada is only sparsely populated. If it weren't for his powers Sam would have definatly starved or froze to death. He found that many things seemed to come almost instinctively, in reality unknowingly recalling things he had learned in his past lives.

Years of wandering had changed Sam very little. He was still the fearful kid who would much rather stay home and read. He always had and still did see his powers as a t best an annoyance and at worst a curse. While he had forgiven Bob, Sam had not done so for Eddie. Bob had changed a great deal and now was quite obedient to Samuel, seeing himself as Sam's "go to guy", though Eddie used the term "suck up". Eddie hadn't changed much, and the only reason he seemed to stay with the other three was because he had no other choice. At least in the wilderness, Eddie was unable to cause any serious harm, at worst harassing local wildlife.

In early summer of 1998 Samuel found himself plagued by nightmares and insomnia. When he could sleep his dreams were always the same. A group of people, what appeared to be soldiers or mercenaries wandering through a series of caverns followed by the brutal deaths of several of them at the hands of shadow clad monsters. Oddly he was less concerned with soldiers and more with what the survivors took with them, a dimly glowing sphere. He did not yet understand what the significance was, only the strong feeling the the sphere was extremely important.

Samuel felt pulled northward. The demons were confused as this was the first time their leader had shown interest in something other than outright survival. They traveled for nearly five months before reaching the western edge of Ungava Bay. The demons were about to ask Samuel what he intended to do here, but there questions were answered when Samuel simply walked in to the sea, displacing the water for several feet around him.

They walked along the sea bed for several days never stopping to eat or sleep. Each time the demons tried to question Sam he would simply ignore them and continue walking as though in a trance. Eventually they came to the southern shore of Akpotok Island and made their way to the plateau of the island. Samuel only spoke two words to the demons, "Wait here". Eddie gave quite a bit of resistance to the order and demanded to know why they had come to island. Samuel ignored Eddie's questioning as he walked towards the center of the island. Eddie tackled Sam pinning him to the ground and again demanded to know why they were there. Bob and Albert rushed to restrain Eddie but stopped as Eddie was knocked to the ground by a large wolf like creature.

Eddie could only look up at the flayed animal as it bared its teeth snarling at him. Several other identical creatures pulled themselves out of the ground, growling at Eddie. Eddie understood the message and relented. Samuel calmly stood up, dusted himself off, and continued walking to the island's center.

The Cave

Samuel walked across the island eventually finding himself at its center. He wandered around the area in confusion, he could feel himself being pulled to this exact spot but found nothing of interest to warrant his journey, just dirt and rock. Exhausted from his travel, he collapsed and fell into a deep dreamless sleep.

He was awakened several hours later by a rumbling deep within the earth. It was feint at first but grew louder as the ground began to crack beneath him. Samuel fell several hundred feet landing in a large, partially flooded cavern. Dazed though remarkably unharmed he stood and surveyed the empty cavern. In the center stood a large stone pedestal.

Cautiously, Samuel approached the pedestal only to jump back, started as a semi transparent ghostly woman appeared. Her clothing and physical features suggested she was Central American in origin. She spoke to the stunned Samuel, smiling, "Greetings, Its about time you got here."

Arachnos

Samuel learned much from his past incarnations, but learning the most from Xoco who had made a copy of her mind to guard Akpotok island. With no more reason for Xoco's mental replicant to guard the Orb, Samuel had taken the liberty of binding her into a demon body with his new found knowledge so that she might assist him further. With knowledge of his true nature and new found purpose he sought to reclaim the Orb.

It was three years after Akpotok Island that he arrived in the Rogue Isles now under the alias, Fon. No longer was he the scared child that left his burned home in fear. Samuel was now much stronger willed and much more knowledgeable in magic. Having spent the previous years training and accumulating resources he was prepared to infiltrate Arachnos.

It was near the end of 2002, Arachnos was working to regain the personnel it had lost during the Rikti war. Fon lacked the offical credentials needed for the task, but Arachnos was willing to allow him to prove his loyalty due to Fon bringing them the Draupnir, a mythical arm ring of norse myth. Fon had used the knowledge of his previous incarnations to locate the object, buried near what was once a pre colonial Norse settlement in southern Canada.

Fon spent the next several years working for Arachnos, proving his loyalty time and again and having gained a reputation for suscesfully aquiring more than a dozen magic artifacts, a few of which may have gone into the design of the WEB. In his work for Arachnos he has had multiple encounters with Longbow and various heroes, eluding capture (and killing a number of heroes and Longbow agents) repeatedly.

His training and work for Arachnos had gained him the "Magus" title among Arachnos mystics a few short years after joining them.

Powers

Fon is a master of Nether and Infernal based magics, drawing on the collective knowledge of various past incarnations. The primary use of this ability is demon summoning.

The Demons

The demons are in reality aspects of Fon's soul both open and suppressed. Some of these aspects appear to be exagerated however. They follow Fon loyally and will obey any direct orders he gives them. Though they may not always agree with his commands, they have little choice but to obey.

The Imps

Eddie, Bob, and Albert were the first demons Fon evere summoned and act as his main workers performing any task that wouldn't require the use of the Beasts or Xoco.

Eddie is impulsive, reckless, lecherous and utterly sadistic. He outright hates and fears Fon and if he had anyway to free himself of the Magus's control would gladly do so. Fortunatly for Fon, Eddie lacks the cunning required to subvert Fon's will in anyway that's meaningful and like the others is compelled to perform any commands given to him.

Bob is loyal to Fon and will perform any task to the best of his abilities without question. However, Bob is the most moral of the demons and while he has no qualms about killing when ordered to do so, he will avoid harming anyone he views as being innocent or not a direct threat to his master.

Albert is pragmatic and often calm often acting as the voice of reason for the trio. Albert performs much of the paperwork that Arachnos requires of Fon though takes offense at being called Fon's secretary.

The Beasts

Effectively mindless animals, acting as pack animals and heavy laborers for fairly simple tasks requiring their strength. In combat they are prone to animalistic screeching and will often attempt devour slain enemies if Fon does command them otherwise.

Xoco

The most powerful demon under Fon's control and often acting as an advisor. The demon's voice is unusually dissonant with it's large, hulking body, sounding like that of a young woman in her early to mid twenties. Those who are familiar with native Central American languages may notice that the voice speaks with a native Nahuatl (Aztecan) accent. It's personality is actually that of one of Fon's past incarnations copied into the otherwise mindless demon.

Arachnos Akpotok Island After Report

The Orb

Arachnos Report on AA (Akpotok Artifact)1-1

Description: The artifact is a dull brown semi translucent sphere with a diameter of 31 centimeters, a weight of 5.58 kilograms, and a refractive index of 1.3335.

Physical analysis shows the artifact to be perfectly spherical to the extent that our equipment can detect. Testing shows the artifact to be extremeley durable and thus far impossible to scratch or damage with any of our available equipment or personel.

The artifact completely redirects any form of kinetic or magical energy applied to it back towards it's origin. Electromagnetic radiation is unaffected by this and mereley passes through the object.

Despite our analysis that the artifact contains a great deal of energy bound within it, all our attempts have proven futile in accessing this power.

Memory of Saguenay

Arachnos Report on OA (Oranbega Artifact) 91-171

Description: OA91-71 is a series of 23 crystalline fragments of varying size discovered in the Eastgate neighborhood of Paragon city in 1991. The object appears to have been crafted from clear quartz.

OA91-71 is a magically created recording device, but the recording contained within it is badly damaged. Based on the size and shape of the pieces we have concluded that OA91-71 was a cube with its sides equaling 10.2 centimeters in length. The 23 fragments recovered only account for 64% of OA91-71's estimated size. Search for additional fragments in the Eastgate neighborhood and surrounding areas of Paragon have produced no result. We can only assume that the remainder of OA91-71's mass has been either lost or completely destroyed.

The recording contained within appears to have been the journal of the hero Pyrus. Pyrus is known to have died in 1977, killed by Arachnos personnel during an attempted raid on Lab 6-12. For full information please refer to After Report 78B-29.

While much of the information is either mundane or to badly damaged to be of use, the most intriguing information is that which seems to have been recorded a few months prior to Pyrus's death. The recordings Pyrus left indicate that he had begun having unusual adn disturbing recurring dreams which the memeory of were recorded into OA91-71.

The recording is unusually vivid for a dream. It appears to be experienced from the viewpoint of an Oranbegan male in his late thirties to early forties evidenced by the individual's reflection from glancing briefly into a fountain. The first half of the recording is fairly mundane and is merely the Oranbegan male going through a morning routine of breakfast with a group of people (One adult female of similar age to the Oranbegan Male, one adolescent male, two identical female children estimated to be seven to nine years of age, and one infant of unknown sex) assumed to be the Oranbegan male's family, followed by several hours of wandering through a large well populated Oranbegan city with said group.

The recording indicates that the city it takes place in is on a western coast, evidenced from the position of the sun. This is unusual as Oranbega is known to have been on the East Coast of North America. The second half of the recording shows several scenes depicting what seems to be the destruction of the Oranbegan city. They are as follows:

Scene 1

A dull brown spherical object is shown for several seconds sitting atop a stone pedestal in a dimly lit cavern. Researchers who have experienced the recording have commented feeling as though the sphere is extremely important but not being able to explain why.

Scene 2

A large group of individuals flying over an Oranbegan city. Their clothing has been identified as being consistent with that worn by early Mu.

Scene 3

The Oranbegan city burning, screaming and the sound of explosions are heard.

Scene 4

The adult Oranbegan female in the first half of the recording covered in blood trapped under the rubble of large stone structure, eyes staring blankly upwards while clutching a bundle of cloth presumed to contain the infant. Both appear to be deceased.

Scene 4

One of the identical female children engulfed in flames, screaming.

Scene 5

One of the identical female children face down in a damaged fountain with tattered clothing. Injuries and bruising observed suggest sexual assault and blunt force trauma to the skull.

Scene 6

The adolescent male engaged in combat wielding a machete like weapon for several seconds with one of the individuals from Scene 2 before being eviscerated and then impaled through the chest with a spear.

Scene 7

Numerous Oranbegan individuals gathered in an underground cavern, a single female appearing to be in her mid thirties stands in the center of the crowd giving a speech. The words are unintelligible but the tone indicates a great deal of anger.

Scene 8

A large winged demon engulfed in flame, appearance is similar to that observed among demons in service to the Circle of Thorns.

Scene 9 The crowd from Scene 7 engulfed in flame.

Scene 10 Several seconds of a violent battle between individuals from Scene 9 and Scene 2.

Scene 11 Appears to be a repetition of Scene 1.

Scene 12

A large map carved into a stone surface. The map shows what appears to be Ungava Bay, Akpotok island, and a large unidentified land mass in the south eastern portion of the bay that does not exist in any other known record. A circle marks Akpotok Island and a single word in Orangeban script marks the unidentified land mass. Our translators indicate the word to be "Saguenay".

We are unsure of what connection Pyrus had to the events portrayed in OA171, if there were any indication contained in OA171, the information is either to badly damaged to be recognizable or it is possible even he did not know based on his apparent confusion in the recording and the fact that he died just a few months later.

Based on what is contained in OA171 it may prove beneficial to send a team to investigate the areas indicated in Scene 12.

Search for similar artifacts in Paragon with information like that found contained within OA171 have so far proven fruitless.
