This article about a character is a stub -- a small, but growing, work in progress. If you're the creator of this character, why not consider expanding it?

Malixxa is based on an old 2nd Edition D&D character of mine named Malix, (name was taken on CoV already) a Werefox multi-class thief/mage who spent 99% of her time in her Anthro Fox form, claiming that her Elven form was just too ugly. Her specialty was a dual dagger backstab, one of the daggers being a permanently poisoned Dagger of Impaling (magic weapon+magic poison+DM not rolling 'boom'=nifty tool of death). Malixxa was redesigned as a feline and is somewhat less vain and egotistical than her predecessor, though she has her moments ;).

Character History

She was a curious and nimble child, quickly learning how to open locked doors and boxes just to see what was inside. As her skills grew, she came to regard her thefts as a game and the items she stole her 'prizes'. Sometimes she wouldn't even take anything from the places she would break into, instead merely re-arrange items in a playful prank.

When feeling serious about her robbery she primarily targeted the abodes of the rich and well-known, not out of a sense of compassion for the less fortunate, but because the pickings were simply better (and she enjoyed seeing them embarrassed on the evening news).

Her family, however, was not amused by her new hobby and disowned her when she was 17. She made her way to the Rogue Isles living from theft to theft. Finally one day, she read about an artifact in a prominent citizen's collection that was reputed to be magical. She snuck in and made off with her prize, only to be shocked later when she accidentally freed an entity that had been trapped within it.

The creature, whether Djinn, demon or something else entirely, thanked her for freeing him and promised her a gift. When asked what she did, Mal replied "Cat Burglar". The being laughed and transformed her into an anthropomorphic feline/human mix. "There, little Malixxa", said the creature, giving her the name that she now uses as her own, "Now your form matches your function." With a final laugh the being vanished.

Mal quickly learned that the unexpected change did grant her an advantage in her heists as her senses and reflexes were greatly enhanced. Deciding, for the moment, that being a cat wasn't so bad, she went about her life, stealing whatever struck her fancy and spending her down time in Pocket D. It was there that she began her new profession, that of a Kunoichi (female ninja) in training.

She was approached one night by the half-dragon Sidorn who offered to train her and, intrigued by the prospect of being a Ninja, Mal agreed. On the whole, she is amused by Sidorn, whom she finds to be overly practical in thought and action. She teases him whenever possible, often trying to get the other Ninja of his clan in on the jokes. At first, her calling him "boss" was another bit of jest, but she now regards him as a friend in addition to an employer and now, Leader since she finally, after months of excuses, agreed to join the Clan.

Mal still maintains a rebellious streak, but is trying very hard to act like a 'proper' member of the clan, knowing full well that Sidorn put himself in danger by revealing clan secrets and techniques to her before she had undergone the trials to join.

Personality

For the most part, she's fairly amiable despite the somewhat feral look her feline features portray. She isn't above telling crass jokes and talking about questionable subject matters in public places, and she enjoys hanging out in Pocket D whenever she gets the chance. Amusingly, she is sometimes unaware of flirtations directed at her. She has her moments of selfishness but is usually pretty free with her money, since she can easily get more whenever she needs it.

She usually prefers to be called Mal by those with whom she associates, simply because it's easier. Often she will tease associates, giving them nicknames and deliberately speaking in double entendres.

Malixxa does not consider herself a villain. She may work with them at times, when necessary, and she does not deny being a thief, but a villain? No. She merely wants to have fun, experience the finer things in life and live her own life to its fullest. The Rogue Isles offer her these opportunities more readily and with greater variety than Paragon City ever could.

However, some aspects of her new life as part of Sidorn's clan have begun to weigh on her conscience. In her moodier moments, she dwells on those she and the others have had to kill, and has begun to doubt herself. She had been proud of the fact that she'd never once, in all her previous heists, taken a life. It was one of the few things that she felt separated her from the majority of the other villains that she'd met, and now, well, was she no better than them with what she'd done?

She also struggles with abandonment issues and harbours a faint belief in the back of her mind that she will inevitably be betrayed by her new family. The devotion she feels to the clan confuses her at times, making her unsure if it is loyalty (an emotion she never really had felt before) or possibly love that she feels for certain members.

Powers

Claws

Although she possesses cat-like claws normally, when on the job or fighting, she will don a set of clawed gloves. Recently, she purchased two new sets: viper claws to wear when she actually bothers to listen to Sidorn and dress like the other Ninja on the job, and a set slender knives housed in forearm sheaths equipped with quick spring releases. Her latest acquisition is a set of Rularuu blades that she lifted from...somewhere that she probably should not have been.

Additional Powers

Abilities

Her hearing, reflexes and sense of smell are heightened due to her feline attributes.

She is slowly learning magic. This ability was awakened upon her transformation. She is primarily self taught, using a strange mixture of formal Magic, Ninja illusions and various techniques she found in stolen tomes. Since her instruction was far from formal, she is unaware of many of the Rules of magic, and tends to do things in rather unorthodox ways.

Weaknesses and Limitations

-It's hard for her to resist a challenge, especially if it's a new, 'infallible' security system.

-Her transformation has been described as a curse by both her "boss", Sidorn, and associate, Caraecyn. It is slowly altering her, mentally and physically, even beyond the initial shift in forms. Her temper is growing shorter and she is becoming more erratic and moody and her body is growing even more feline. It also affects her memory, causing to, until recently, forget her real name and many other details about her life. She must sometimes be reminded by Caraecyn of the things he has taught her, since the curse does not want her to be free of it. Although she claims to enjoy her new form, she does occasionally long to be human again, even if for a little while. As a result, she frequently targets any organization that uses magic in order to steal from them. This desire also, at one point, drove her to an act that still troubles her to this day.

-She had admitted to possibly having a drinking problem after two notable incidents of binge drinking in the D. Both were prompted by moments of emotional turmoil and in her drunken state she lashed out at Sidorn the first time, and Caraecyn the second. Understanding, perhaps, the reasons for her behaviour, at each incident they simply escorted her from Pocket D and back to a place of safety for her to recover.

Roleplay Notes

Those sensitive to magical auras would notice two, possibly a third, lingering about her. The first, and strongest, shifts between aspects but can be identified as malignant and transformative in nature. This is the Curse placed upon her by the being that she freed. Her second, 'normal' magical aura is slowly growing as her skill increases, and appears to be faintly connected to the Curse. The third is quite hard to detect, and is hidden within her, and also appears to be a form of curse, but a much different one than the one that altered her form.
