Biography
Connor Crewley was born with a sensitive skin condition, such that he would develop allergy-like rashes for unknown reasons. Despite his afflictions, which were kept at bay due to creams and other treatments, he lived through childhood and his education as normally as possible.
From the age of eight, he helped his father (the retired hero Fix-Man) with small things in the family-owned repair shop, and his mechanical interest grew as he aged. He had figured that even if he could not follow in his father`s heroic footsteps, he could still help the people of the city by running the repair shop himself. Fate and accident would conspire for Connor to join the ranks when fuel from a car he was working on spilled all over and reacted with his skin and the treatment cream, transforming and hardening nearly his entire body it into an organic compound similar in look and feel to tire rubber.
Although originally devastated by his transformation, and fuelled by the discovery that his childhood rashes were caused by an undeveloped mutation, Connor quickly bounced back and found innovative ways to use his new and unnatural flexibility and durability to his advantage. Other heroes started to take notice of Connor's unusual talents and convinced him to register through City Hall, and he took the title of the Malleable Mechanic, though there was much debate regarding how to classify him.
He was originally approached by the Protagonists to join them, and he did for a time, but after taking stock of his circumstances with the repair shop Connor decided that he would be better off finding a similar group that was based "closer to home". He found it in the Golden Age Heroes, with their headquarters also located in Atlas Park, and has since become one of their "Champions".
One of the Mechanic's biggest exploits to date was the rescue of his own father, who had been reported missing from a business trip. It was revealed that the elder Colin, as Fix-Man despite his retirement from hero work, was investigating rumors linked to Praetoria. His long absence was caused by his capture at the hands of none other than evil counterparts of son and father: known as the Dire Dismantler and Cheap Fix. With the help of his Protagonist allies, Connor was able to find a way to the alternate dimension and reunite with his "old man" to take down the villian duo, and finally return home.
Powers
The vast majority of Connor's body, excluding an area of his face, has been altered into an indeterminate substance that resembles the heavy rubber used in the production of tires, and having visible grooves and divets like the treads seen on such a product. As such, it has a high degree of resistance to pain and injury and an improved grip capability, although it also lessens his sense of touch to half the normal human capacity. He can twist and contort the rubberized parts of his body into various postions at will, most often to turn his head around to unnatural angles, fit his hands and arms into tight spaces while working, tor to facilitate his jumps abd bounces.
Connor also has developed an uncanny ability to consume and digest various kinds of liquid fuels (such as motor oil) without any ill effects, and is often seen with a metal flask with such substances inside.
Abilities and Equipment
Through the instruction of his father, he has gained a natural mechanical aptitude. He can repair a wide variety of everyday objects through memorized processes, but is not unnaturally gifted in this respect. (Despite his "title" of mechanic, he only rarely gets jobs to fix any sort of vehicle, and hasn't since tuning up the one owned by Moxie Danger.)
He carries a large impervium alloy wrench as both a tool and self-defense weapon. He has no formal combat training of any kind, but he does know how to deal with a hostile situation, using this tool and his own transformation to his advantage.
Other Info
- The shop that Connor works at is known as "The Fix-Man" and is named after his father's heroic alter-ego. Its RP location is in Atlas Park.
- On rare occasions, especially after a day of work at the shop, one can find small metal pieces (such as bolts and screws) stuck in these treads and occasionally fall out. He claims that it's a "bad habit" born from laziness for him to put such items in the tread grooves.
- One of his nicknames came from a random teammate in a missions group. Either "Mr. Goodwrench" or "Mr. Goodyear" are acceptable forms of this nickname.
