His senior year he dropped out and used the money he had earned through working to travel to Europe. He traveled between Birmingham, Norway, and Sweden, taking in the various cultures while simultaneously earning money by joining various bands.
Once he became 25 he decided to create a band of his own. Known as Black Death Gorilla, Gene Savage and his band members performed at various smaller venues across Europe, earning a reputation as a hardcore death metal band. Although mostly unknown to the mainstream public, Black Death Gorilla did manage to amass a small cult following. This was Gene Savage's first taste of power, something that slowly changed him from pioneering death metal frontman and artist to a power obsessed madman.
Years had passed, and although his band members were content, Gene Savage sought something more. After creative differences between he and the band, he quickly left and returned to his American roots. Seeing him as an exotic European musician, it wasn't hard for Gene Savage to create a new band and recruit new band members, all of which were eager for fame and fortune. It was then that Gene took on the stage name Manic Metal, while his new band was named Rampage.
Rampage quickly rose to fame, selling multiple albums and going on many tours, some of which included relief concerts due to the damage the Rikti threat had caused to the world. The public especially adored their intense live performances and just how brutal they managed to come off as. Unbeknownst to Manic Metal, but it was a mutant gene in his DNA that allowed him to amplify the sounds he created from his vocal cords that had helped boost their reputation as an intense death metal band.
Once he became 34, Manic Metal decided to retire Rampage. The band went their separate ways after become incredibly wealthy and famous. It was then that Metal thirsted for true power. Hearing about the various criminals and super villains found in Paragon City, Metal decided he wanted in on the action. Travelling to the City of Heroes, he quickly amassed his legion of rabid and loyal fans, turning them into a workforce of heavy metal themed soldiers. It was during this that Manic Metal discovered his power, allowing him a wider variety of options in causing villainy and mayhem for the city.
Manic Metal's ultimate goal is to tear down Paragon City and rebuild it as a monument to all things dark and brutal, ruling over his new city of metal. So far he has been unsuccessful.
