Overview

A serious hero, on serious business, but who really knows what that business is.

Personality

Maximilian Gold is a serious and stern hero. He doesn't like his authority questioned, and is always looking for an advantage, even when dealing with friends. Life has taught him many hard lessons, and he feels it's his job to teach those around him these lessons, so that hopefully they can learn their own. He takes immense pride in his work, and his team, although he doesn't show it.

Background

Maximilian Gold remembers back to when he was taken from Africa and brough to the United States. He's not even sure what year that was. He was another man caught up in the slave trade, brought to a country he didn't even want to go to and without his freedom. It was during these first traumatic years that his mutant powers developed, well, at least his invulnerability. He remembers being "tortured", but to him it was a joke. How many masters did he kill, even he can't recall. It was at this time that he encountered a white man that had some type of powers, not that he knew what powers were back then. In an epic battle between the two men, Max's secondary powers manifested themselves, as he drew the energy out of the startled man and killed him, who Max later recognized was another mutant. It was a different time back then. Max had to survive and he did whatever was necessary. Flashforward to World War I. Racism was still rampant in the US, and Max went back to Africa, to enlist in the French army as a Goumier. The Germans learned to fear him, his French comrades learned to love him. The war ended, and Max stayed in France, and earned an education at the behest of the French Government. He served them well as a hammer for the French Empire across all their colonies. At this time Max decided he was no man's slave, and taking what he had learned, moved deeper into Africa to the Belgian Congo. He started business enterprises, which gained him wealth, more wealth than he had ever known. Max didn't learn his lessons, and he horded that wealth instead of using it to help others. World War 2 came along, and Max used his powes to aid the Allies wherever he code, covertly of course, who could tolerate a black man fighting for democracy and making a difference. After the war, the American Government gave him wealth beyond his dreams, but at a cost, service to the American Government. He fought Communists, he fought Leftists governments, he fought the Chinese in Korea, he fought against the Vietcong. Hell, where didn't he fight. Max "retired" in 1970 from employment with the American government. All those years, all that death, and for what, a rotten world where his kind were feared. Enough was enough. The Gold Corporation was created in inner cities, and he helped where he could. He became a Super hero, and fought crime, thus gaining legitimacy and acceptance, all the while hiding his mutant powers. He was a freak of nature he told people, magical powers inherited from Africa. Max disappeared at that point. It was 1980. His corporation fell apart, and he was soon forgotten. He reappered again in Los Angeles in 1995, but not as Max, and not as the same hero as before. The dossier on him is missing these years, nobody knows what happened to him. But disaster struck in LA, as the group he ran with was decimated by a group of Villains, known as the Posse. Max disappeared again, only to show up in Paragon City in 2004, and the Gold Corporation was reestablished. In 2010, Max recruited a new group of heroes, now known as the Gold Corporation. He has made many enemies over the years, but made even more friends.
