Physical Description

Ritsuko is a young, Asian woman of extraordinary beauty with dark hair, dark eyes, tan skin, and a slender build. She is somewhat short, but leggy, standing only five feet tall. As Mew Blueberry, her hair becomes deep blue and she gains cat ears and a tail. Her back and upper arms are scarred heavily from the train wreck. She never allows anyone to see the scars. She can usually be seen wearing her silk one-piece dress with the circuitry weaves that enable her to communicate with other heroes and receive instructions from Ryou and Keichiiro in Japan. The circuitry weaves also allow her to change the color of her outfit.

Powers

As a Mew Mew, Ritsuko can call upon the spirit of the arctic wildcat to shape, control, and create ice. She has learned to hurl deadly shards of it and shape it into a jagged blade. Blueberry can also encase her foes in thick blocks of ice and call shards of it from the sky to rain upon the ground. Recently, she has discovered that the arctic winds can bear her aloft, carrying her through the air at great speed. Ritsuko, when not metamorphed into a Mew Mew, uses her martial arts training and instinctive reflexes to protect herself. She requires a small amulet that bears her mew mew mark to initiate the metamorphosis from Ritsuko into Mew Mew Blueberry.

Character History

Childhood

Takahashi Ritsuko wasn't always a hero. In fact, up until her eighth birthday, she was just an ordinary child, perhaps more intelligent and attractive than most. She had inherited her mothers good looks after all, and her fathers keen intellect. It was a few weeks after her eighth birthday that she suffered the first of three tragedies that would shape her life and turn her into the young woman she is today.

The Academy

Shortly after her eighth birthday, Ritsuko was taken away from her family to be trained as a sparrow agent, at the Section 12 Academy. Her mother had been a sparrow and recruited into a top secret breeding program to create a new generation of attractive, intelligent sparrows. Ritsuko was one of the first. This revelation tore her family apart, causing her father to leave and take her brother with him. At the Academy, Ritsuko was trained in a variety of martial arts, weapons skills, assassination techniques, and the art of seduction. She had many "partners" of both sexes during her training, but never knew love until after her sixteenth birthday.

The Train Wreck

Ritsuko had earned a vacation from the Academy for excelling in her studies and being at the top of the class for eight years running. The train she used to visit Tokyo derailed and killed nearly everyone on board. She was one of seven survivors. One of those survivors was Aki Nagasawa. They were placed together in the hospital during their months of recovery. What started as a friendship born of survival, quickly blossomed into an intimate relationship that neither of them were full aware of how deep it had become. It wasn't until after Ritsuko was forced to return to the Academy that she truly understood the depth of her love for Aki.

A year after the train wreck, Ritsuko graduated second in her class, though everyone knew she should have been first. She was sent overseas, to Oxford University, to begin building her cover story. Her stay at the college would only last a year.

The Rikti Threat

Ritsuko's first year at Oxford had just ended and she was searching for a part time job for the summer. An urgent dispatch from Section 12 HQ curtailed her search. She was ordered to return to the Academy for further education and reassignment. Something was fishy about the order, but all the protocols and verifications were authentic.

Ritsuko returned to Tokyo several days earlier than ordered and used one of her own identities she had established after arriving in England. She quickly discovered against from other sections of the government were seeking her and other sparrows from the academy. Something had gone terribly wrong and she had become a liability and a target.

The Academy had trained her well, however. She infiltrated the headquarters and discovered a Rikti presence. One room in a hidden section of the base was filled with vats of viscous grey-green liquid. Some held the bodies of humans in them. Others had what looked like giant embryos floating in the ichor. One of the people, was Aki, her Aki. Her first and only love. Ritsuko immediately freed Nagasawa from the vat, but was horrified when Aki awoke and attacked her.

Ritsuko was forced to kill what she believed was the only love in her life. Her only connection to the real world out there. It shattered what little of her emotions remained and she fled into the night, pursued by rikti trackers. She was saved by one of the Tokyo Mew Mew, of whom she knew much, having followed their exploits several years ago when Tokyo was under attack by another alien threat. Mew Ichigo had actually been seeking Ritsuko since she had been marked as a mew mew.

The rikti hounds were relentless. Ritsuko was given a choice, become a mew mew, and thus alter her DNA enough to prevent the rikti from tracking her, or flee the country until the rikti threat could be nullified. Ritsuko, furious at the rikti for what they had done and forced her to do to her former lover, made the decision instantly. She would become a mew mew and fight back against the rikti. For the next several months, Ritsuko fought alongside the Toky Mew Mew as Mew Mew Blueberry, driving the rikti from Tokyo with the help of the Nippon Defense Force.

Present Day

Ryou and Keichiiro decided to send Blueberry to Paragon City where the heart of the Rikti threat was. She quickly recruited others to join her in the fight against the Rikti and began renovating the building that would become Cafe Mew Mew, the secret base and heart of the Paragon Mew Mew. She puts a brave face on in public, acting as if nothing has happened to her, but every night since the terrible almost a year ago, she has wept until exhaustion takes her and forces her to sleep.

Recent Events

Aki was a what?!

Ritsuko recently learned that the Aki she was forced to kill in Tokyo, was a rikti clone. She has since become intolerant and untrusting of any kind of cloning or clones. The whereabouts of the real Aki are unknown still. Even knowing it was just a clone, Ritsuko is still plagued by nightmares of that night, forced to relive that moment over and over.

A Chance Taken, a Love Lost

The facade Ritsuko has built up around herself as a mew mew has crumbled somewhat in the months since her arrival in Paragon. She has begun to believe in love again after meeting Major Campbell, who with one forceful kiss and a gentle hug, tore down a number of walls hiding Ritsuko's heart. For the first time in almost a year, she has fallen asleep purring, instead of weeping. The happiness wouldn't last as Ritsuko grew closer to Jessi. The military, almost robot-like scrapper was unable to set aside her desire to maintain control over anything close to her or part of her life, which included Ritsuko.

Power Armor Blueberry

During recent trips into the shattered district Faultline, Mew Mew Blueberry was approached by Amber Tsuhiko to retrieve some artifacts unearthed by the earthquake and recent excavations in a previously untouched area. What Blueberry found was far more than a simple system of tunnels. It led deep beneath Paragon City to an ancient lab of what could only be of extra-terrestial origin. Blueberry had already recovered the broken shards of a gem, Amber Tsuhiko had been interested in, but something within the alien complex pulled the young mew mew deeper.

A strange golden glow pulsed along the walls, drawing Ritsuko inward. She eventually found herself inside a large circular room with a high domed ceiling. All around her machinery and what she took to be computers hummed to life as the golden glow illuminated their circuitry. In the center of the room, a column sunk into the floor and rotated to reveal a set of pure golden armor inside a stasis chamber. Even more amazing was the alien still wearing the armor. The stasis chamber vomited the creature and her golden armor onto the floor.

The alien smiled and said, "You'll do." Then faded away into ethereal motes of light, leaving the armor behind. Blueberry decided that the armor was meant for her and discovered it was so. It molded itself to her form, tighter than even her own skin felt. She doesn't full understand it, but the AI inside the armor is still re-writing damage code and repairing the armor.
