Background
Michael Lawrinson has been, as long as he could remember, a career cop. By his own admission, he never grew out of the childhood fantasy of the men in blue swooping in to save the day - it was just refined into something more practical.
Michael started as a beat cop at age 18, graduating to Inspector at age 21 after exemplary service and a go-getter attitude impressed the right people. Soon after, he was selected to become part of an elite core of trainees - the metahuman branch of the Philadelphia Special Weapons and Tactics unit, known as M.O.N.S.T.E.R. (Metahuman Organization Nexus: Special Tactics, Education and Rehabilitation). Michael stuck to his guns and, a year later, became an agent for M.O.N.S.T.E.R. Over the next eight years, Michael worked harder to maintain law and order. He dove headlong into familiarizing himself with metahuman technology and metabiology, as well as learning all he could about science, humanities and combat training. To date, he possesses the most number of Recognized Extra-training Demarkations of anyone in the Philadelphia Police Department, including work in chemistry, human biology, hostage negotiation, xeno/para/metatech and what are jokingly called the "Kaizu Five" - Artillery Training, Large-Scale Metahuman Support, Large-Scale Metahuman Suppression, Civilian Evacuation Certification and Altered-Gravity Combat Training - an impressive feat for a normal human.
Personality
Michael is a little rough around the edges, but there are few who could match his tenacity and fervor for ensuring as many people remain safe as possible. He is a firm proponent of saving as many lives as possible, even if this leads to personal danger or loss. Outside of heroism, however, Michael doesn't really have a social life. He remains buried in study and training, honing his combat skills at the expense of his social ones.
Recently
Michael professes that the only reason he moved to Paragon City was for a "seachange", wanting to get away from the regimented lifestyle of the Philly PD. He continues using his skills as both a cop and an almost preternaturally trained S.W.A.T. agent to take on metahuman threats with mixed success, serving and protecting as he has always done.
