Midnight Mantle
From Unofficial Handbook of the Virtue Universe
Midnight Mantle is my first take on a none superpowered character. Unlike Sigma Zen or Lunar Lupun, Matt is a normal man that uses training and gadgets to fight crime. He's inspired by many sources, from The Question to Doctor Mid-Nite to Tim Drake as Robin and Red Robin.

Personality
Under the Mantle, Matt tends to be aloft and arrogant. He much prefers the shadows of the city which allow him to mask his presence outside of the unblinking eyes of the Mantle.
Matt tends to be reclusive and sarcastic, preferring the company of his cat "Gwen". Though he tends to give the impression of a man that is ready to throw away his life for revenge, deep down he is truly an optimistic person confident that with enough hard work the sins of the city may be washed away. Despite his optimism, he is often lonely and awkward in personal situations.
Powers
Electric Melee
Years of training under the first Midnight Mantle has honed Matt's body into a streamlined fighting machine. Specializing in Jujutsu, the Japanese art of defeating an armed or armored enemy without a weapon. He augments this fighting style with a pair of tazer gauntlets to take down super powered enemies.
Willpower
His years of physical training have given Matt an enormous well of Willpower. As the battle turns against him, he's eager to confront the tides of enemies.
Gadgets
Matt carries a wide assortment of gadgets on his person. Most notably the pair of tazer gauntlets but also varying degrees of thrown weapons, grappling hooks along with many others. All supplied by Gadget Drawers.
Telenet
One particular gadget of note is the Telenet, a powerful teleportation tool keyed to several key locations as well as switching Matt's costumes and normal clothing on the fly.
Character History
Matt Marshall grew up in the mean streets of Independence Port. A child of a pair of dock workers, he knew all to well the realities of the underside of the city and the trials of poverty. His life would be forever changed the night the Family decided that his parents weren't paying them enough for protection. The boy looked upon the city with hatred.
He, like so many others, was born into a city of sin. Matt turned to the streets, ambushing street level thugs until he bought off more then he could chew. Beaten and bloodied, he would be saved by the hero Midnight Mantle. The hero saw the drive for revenge in the lad's eyes and took him in, training him in martial arts to temper his rage.
Years passed until the man behind the Midnight Mantle persona passed on. Matt took the mask, becoming a symbol of the city come to haunt the villains of it's streets. Armed with assorted gadgets and a pair of stun gauntlets, the teen seeks to avenge the children of the city.
Matt's adventures as the Midnight Mantle during his early teenage years were marked by frustration. The teen would find himself in the middle of overwhelming odds as the Rikti returned for their second invasion. He found himself completely unprepared for the large scale world of heroes and returned to Independence Port to take on the Family once again.
Years would pass as he continued his gorilla war against the Family, often spilling into the streets. Without a supplier for his gadgets or anyone to repair his equipment, it quickly became a losing battle.
Recent History
Even with the setbacks associated with the Family, Matt has grown into a hero in his own right. Known for his detective skills and brash nature he has gained the attention of a local inventor, one Gidget Drawers. She has supplemented and upgraded his main gadgets as well as giving him the Telenet, a pocket sized teleportation device used for specific locations as well as quick costume changes. She has joined him on several adventures, quickly becoming partners despite Gidget's family looking down on the inventors hero past time.
Most recently, the normally lone hero has joined up with The Go Getters super group. He sites the reason for joining the group is that alien and zombie invasions might be just above his capabilities. Only just above.
