Mire Validus (birthdate unknown) is an ex-villain originating from the early 800's. He is a major member of the Dark Templar (an ancient group of templar knights opposed to the Knights Templar of medieval ages), and previously worked alongside Arachnos in the Rogue Isles within recent years. After serving as a bodyguard to an Arachnos commander for several years, he left Arachnos after an assassination attempt gone wrong. He currently roams Paragon City looking for his old commander. He is known for his tendency to mercilessly slaughter his targets, and is perhaps best known for being seen constantly flying around the city limits at night, visible by a streak of bright blue fire.

Powers and Abilities

Pyrokinesis

Mire is able to absorb heat from the environment around him and release the heat from his body as fire. He is constantly seen "engulfed" in protective blue flames, however his more offensive pyrokinetic abilities are released as regular fire. He has been said to use the energy that passes through his body as a healing force.

Mire is immune to most fire and water/ice-based attacks, and is heavily resistant to smashing attacks.

Flying/Invisibility

Since he was discovered, Mire presented his ability to fly with spectral wings. During his period under the command of Arachnos, a physical form of these wings were assembled and grafted onto his back. The casings for the wings were made of impervium, and were found to be too difficult to remove. Mire is still searching for someone capable of removing the metallic casings in order to reveal his original wings.

His flying abilities coupled with his ability to turn invisible and his apparent love for hanging around Founders' Falls has earned him the nickname Ghost of the Falls. An even more popular nickname of his is the Black Guardian, earned because he is sometimes encountered swooping down out of nowhere and carrying off helpless thugs and enemies, usually when they are harassing/assaulting an innocent hero/civilian.

Character History

The Dark Templar, 800+.

In the dawn of the medieval ages, a group known as the Dark Templar discovered a grey-skinned baby boy with torn wings, resembling that of a fallen angel. The Dark Templar was a group that, opposed to the Knights Templar which would officially form centuries later, held the ideal of gaining the documents containing information to the whereabouts of carriers of the Holy Bloodline. They would then use the carriers they captured to bend the shape of the world for better or for worse, although it should be noted they never succeeded.

The templars raised this baby as Mire Validus, a name in Latin meaning "Uncommon" and "powerful." He seemed to bring with him naturally the gift of dark magics and an array of fighting skills which seemed to have come to him from nowhere. The Dark Templar used him as a guide, training many of their members into mages or magical knights.

Mire had outstanding longevity, and a few members discovered that using certain types of dark magic actually extended their longevity as well. Mire lived until around 1123 when a freak battle between the Dark Templar, Knights Templar, and church authorities sprang to action. Many of the dark templar survived, however due to many of their mages (Mire included) casting dark magic almost simultaneously, a small portal storm ripped open and trapped many fighters within it, freezing them in place and scattering them through multiple points in time and history (speculated to have spanned from roughly 9,000 B.C. to 2456 A.D.).

Only two members of the Dark Templar appeared in modern-day Paragon City: Mire, and a very strong knight named Janus Cain. To this day, the two are still completely unaware of each others' existence.

Arachnos, 2002.

After a large team of Arachnos soldiers landed on the shores of the Abyss off of Grandville, it didn't take them long before they came across a ceremonial platform in the middle of the forest, Mire's body lying across it. They retrieved his unconscious body and ran a data scan, revealing that he was not registered in either the hero nor villain databases.

After reviving the body, an arachnos commander named Magnus Faust convinced Mire to join their ranks as his bodyguard. From 2002 to 2008, Magnus's team was then considered one of the most elite task forces in operation.

Unforeseen War

In winter of 2008, Magnus was investigated on the suspicion of being a double-agent, although the investigations quickly ceased. Shortly afterward, Magnus' team was assigned a task by Lord Recluse himself to breach an underground facility and eliminate a group of rogue Arachnos agents and destroy the tunnels they were hiding out in.

When they entered the facility, it was disturbingly quiet and mysteriously clear. When they got to the tunnels, however, the entire team was immediately surrounded. They managed to fight their way through, however losing one of their soldiers in the process. With more reinforcements beginning to pop up, Magnus led the team into a large, dark, spacious room. When the lights turned on, a firing squad of Arachnos agents were lined up with Magnus standing among them. Realizing they had been set up, they launched into action only to be shot down and defeated quickly. Mire, however, managed to survive and take on the entire Arachnos squad by himself, only being grazed by one bullet.

Magnus immediately attacked Mire, and the two engaged in a battle that lasted for 15 minutes, through 6 different rooms, in the process destroying most of the facility. With the entire place about to cave in on itself, Mire and Magnus were about to both strike equally fatal blows to each other when a large chunk of the ceiling came down and apparently crushed Magnus to death. Mire, after just narrowly escaping, learned later on that Magnus had survived and fled to Paragon City.

Present Day

Mire had quit Arachnos immediately without notice, leaving to Paragon City himself. While he still has not caught Magnus, he's learned that his son Ezio has been roaming around the Rogue Isles with a group calling themselves the Blood Artists, who are known for having defeated hundreds of enemies, including many Arachnos agents.

While Mire tries to get in contact with Ezio, he pursues several missions in which he then learns that the murder of his old team and the murder attempt on himself was ordered by Lord Recluse and the entire thing had been staged, carefully planned for months in advance. This has inspired Mire to gain the assistance of the Longbow in his hunt for Magnus. He has vowed that once Magnus is caught and/or killed, he will then do his best to clean up Paragon City of Arachnos scum as much as he can before going directly after Recluse.
