Biography
Your typical 17 year old moving on to graduation. He loved sports, working out, and having fun. His average GPA was 3.0 with Science and Math being his favorite courses to take. A stereotypical jock at first glance, Matt's ideas of fashion were his basketball jacket and jeans. But other than that his personally could throw people off guard. Unlike the typical jock, Matt made no enemies with people he didn't think deserved it and was rather open minded when it came to friends, having a few from different groups on school campus. Throughout his years of High School Matt was always the achiever, striving to be successful and having high hopes for his future. Both a dreamer and a doer, Matt never ceased to amaze both his family and dear friends.
Born in Dallas Texas, Matt lived there for maybe five months before moving to Salem Oregon where he stayed for seven years. While successful after the ages of seven and on, Matt lived an unfortunate and poor life growing up as a infant. His family was not rich and barely made it by, his father was a drunken mechanic and his mother was too busy dealing with drugs to where she could barely take care of the family on her own time. In truth it was his father who prepared the meals despite the abuse Matt's mother endured when his father would be drunk. Finally one incident Matt's mother put her foot down and filed charges under rape and abuse.
What lasted a little over a few months, Matt was given to two foster homes before finally being put under the care of his grandparents at the age of seven. From there he moved to California Orange County and began a proper or idealistic growing phase. He was taught well by his grandparents, his grandfather was there to discipline and his grandmother to comfort when he needed someone to listen.
Years progressed from there, school. In Elementary Matt was rather a rebellious and wild child for some time until switching schools to a more proper reformed but public school. His antics changed when he began to realize differences between right and wrong. The further he matured the more drastic these affects had on him helping him change every school year into a brighter person.
Once enrolled in High School he began a long and strenuous process through the coming four years which hardly changed. The classes did but otherwise the school campus was always the same concept. With newer buildings replacing the old or providing new classes for newcomers, Matt while working hard, enjoyed his time there. His Sophomore year he would tryout for the high school basketball team and qualify with scores reaching above average.
The Accident
Matt was attending his High School Senior Prom. Everything was fine, driving a Nissan GTR to and from Prom, it was his last year and his parents let him barrow the car for the evening to show his date, Andrea, a great time. First stop was a outing, Macaroni and Grill restaurant before traveling forty-five minutes to a San Diego Hotel Resort that was hosting their activities. Arriving on top and in a sporty-fashion, Matt and his date were treated to a well accepting audience despite most others were driving in Limos and the such. He hating joining the norm and always wished to stand out, enjoyed the company of just him and his date so much he couldn't care for having a shouffer. Let alone Matt wasn't for spending money to have someone else do something he himself could easily operate.
So upon arriving, Matt parked his own car and walked with Andrea back to the front entrance where they entered the building. To say the least, it was a blast. Both enjoyed their time, drinking carefully while enjoying the company of so many other classmates surrounding them. The music was great, every slow dance that came up Matt would take his date by the hand and lead her to the dance floor where there in his arms the two would dance slowly to the beat. Often times taking breaks every two songs to just chat with friends at a reserved table for their group.
The night was going quite well, Matt loving every moment of spending time with Andrea; a friend who of which he knew for three years before and was looking forward to seeing her more for their college days.
Matt was by no means a visionary but he did envision his life in the future with this particular woman, a woman he loved secretly but wasn't sure how to express himself beyond asking her out to the Senior Prom. This was his night, the night he wanted to let everything come out that should have been said years ago. He was ready to admit his feelings for this woman he respected so much. A perfect time than any left the two alone at their table where Matt began to tell her his feelings, she of course moved by his respect for her agreed and the two's night only became happier as even she too had some things to come forward with pertaining to him. The two spent the rest of their night closer than ever before as they danced or sat together.
It all ended hours later. While driving down the freeway to head back home there was a report on the radio of their freeway being shut off due to a high speed chase. Matt's date was panicking, Matt shook his head and ignored it in an attempt to comfort and head home as soon as possible. As he drove, Matt's suspicions were getting worse but he kept it to himself, turning off the radio to ignore the warnings. As his green eyes gazed around he saw no other cars on the same freeway. Moments later of shutting off the radio, Matt's eyes widened to the horror of a truck following close behind and catching speed. With blue and red lights in the distance, Matt refused to speed up and get caught in it. Should they get pulled over he would admit wanting to race home to get out of the way but otherwise do so willingly without struggle. He drove carefully, signaling to indicate his side of the road in order to let the truck, which turned out to be a large semi with an unknown logo on the side, pass. Police drove passed and bared no attention to him, Matt sighed with relief.
Coming to their off ramp, Matt quickly made his way across the lanes and left the freeway. The night he thought was over... had only just began. He was tired of driving on a freeway that had no one else on it and the possibility he could get ticketed for not heeding the warning on the radio. Simply put, he wanted to stop driving. As he came to the signal Matt made the turn and began racing down the streets passing by signals that were green.
However, the next signal would be his last. For there to his horror, hearing the loud horns that awoke even Andrea, who had fallen asleep prior; Matt's eyes widened and green eyes leveled with two pairs of bright white lights. The on coming car was coming from his date's direction. Matt had the right away he knew it, but laws of the road didn't generally play well with physics; the truck was bigger. Everything seemed to happen in slow motion, the truck smashed int of the side of his car and he could almost listen in to each piece of metal that bent or snapped. When the Semi had gone as far it could go into the sports vehicle, Matt heard the loud screeching of multiple tires and watched as the truck began to spin out and tip over. Five out of the 8 had been blown out either from spike strips or ware and tare but regardless even the driver of the truck could not control that outcome.
Everything had come to a stop, Matt slowly opened his eyes to find himself nearly bolted down to his seat. Attempting to crawl out, Matt slipped out of the shattered window. Despite the cuts and bruises he fought to survive by slipping and falling down to the ground. Taking a few breaths he stood up and looked back at the passenger side to see Andrea slowly awakening. With an arm reached out Matt tried to give her his hand, begging her to undo her safety belt. The smell of burning gas caught his attention and suddenly he was acting with haste. It wasn't long before Andrea awoke to realize what all had happened, she who considered it was a dream, found it wasn't. The two were on the verge of crying in their moments of desperation. Matt continuing to yell, "I'm not leaving you!" with Andrea screaming, "Go, go now!" as the sent of gas struck her nostrils. Just as Matt reached over to slash the seat belt and pull back to relax in order to build up for the next stretch, time slowed. Like how the truck collided with his car, he saw the fumes and the sparks. Everything suddenly engulfed by flames. The force of the explosion propelled him through the air and into the trunk of the Semi.
The truck itself having tipped over and carried Matt's car a few series of feet, was not too far off. It's latch in the back had lifted up from the commotion the truck endured. Matt having flown directly into it by chance crashed into the gallons of chemicals and other various unknown storage products stored inside.
Matt was covered in chemicals and could barely moved. The smell was unlike anything he had ever smelt before. Oh god I'm going to melt. where among the thoughts running through his head thinking he fell into acids or radiation waste. Everything was blurry but as he struggled back to his feet he watched red, orange, and white flames flicker their way to the truck. The truck too had spilt enough gas to cross a distance of an entire block and it wasn't long before Matt's car would flick flames onto the trail. When it did so, Matt's life from that moment was completely encased with a bright light.
Changes that became apparent
Matt awoke what felt like only a moment later. In truth it was days long after the accident. He was somewhere he didn't know, he felt lost and alone. Surrounded by grape fields. Sluggishly wandering around, Matt was in search of a way out feeling that everything was a dream and he was actually someone else suffering a hangover. Matt shook his head and sighed softly finally leaving the property of some unknown winery owner. Upon entering the streets he began to wander for an hour, utterly confused by his barely recognizable surroundings. Matt wandering to an intersection which caused him to freeze. He felt the same as the night the events unfolded. Frozen and terrified, his green eyes fell upon the very intersection which was the last he had seen before the accident occurred. Matt was assure that everything was a dream but the feeling of dajavue had hit deep, if everything was a dream he began to question why the place looked so familiar. Depression settled in and Matt began to question whether he was real or just a wandering ghost. Having stumbled into a Seven/Eleven, Matt staggered to the back for the bathroom. He knew the place at least his supposed dreams told him that much.
What was odd was how everything reacted to him. If he was a ghost doors and such, he would go right through them no? He contemplated over and over again how everything was playing out. As he stumbled into the back bathroom and locked the door behind him, he stared at his reflection in the mirror and sighed a loud sigh of pain. Having felt so much in the last few hours, he was unable to contemplate what to do. Everything was confirming what he thought was a dream was actually true and each passing moment he felt worse. Maybe someone made a mistake, why would he be alive and nobody out looking for him? Did they think he was dead? It crossed his mind that there was already possibly a funeral and it may have been an open casket. He was alive however, but couldn't get around to approaching his family and announcing it to them because quite possibly to them he was dead.
As Matt began to leave the bathroom, utterly consumed by the pain of loss and worthlessness Matt made his way to the front desk. When out of nowhere a robber pulls out a gun and holds it to the cashier. Seconds passed slowly, Matt's mood began to range and build from one setting to the next. Like a machine he was rebooting. Depression turned to desperation, which turned to anger, and that became rage. Unable to control himself Matt drew into a suicidal state of mind, yelling at the robber and not thinking at all of the consequences that could come of this. Matt was silenced as the barrel was placed to his head and the trigger pulled. Once again his life flashed before his eyes.
Awakening yet again Matt would mutter, "Fuck, this is annoying." When he opened his eyes he looked to find the cashier staring back down at him. The person's skin pale white like they had seen a ghost. Matt was confused, blinking one eye and looking around, he was slowly helped to his feet. The cashier began to tell him how Matt's brains were literally splattered all over the place but he had somehow regained consciousness and not a single scratch or stain of blood remained.
The cashier also told him that the robber had left moments ago. Matt came to his feet, oddly enough fueled with energy as he stood on his own two feet and looked around. After he asked for any directions at all Matt was compelled to find anything else to explain what happened, rushing out of the store and down the street. Upon passing a few other pedestrians on the road, Matt asked each one if they had seen any one based on the description he could recall. Once given an answer, he continued on his way.
Where down an alley he confronted the same man who supposedly had shot Matt earlier. Matt was angry, the man was scared or at least surprised to nearly death as the man he thought was dead turned out to be alive. Strangely enough the robber was relieved. Matt expressed his pain through a fury of punches and blows where the robber then explained his reasons for stealing money while his throat was gripped by both of Matt's hands. A brief moment of silence followed where the only thing Matt could hear was the beating of his own heart and breathing of his own two lungs. Finally Matt relaxed, taking that which the robber stole and let the man go....
From that day forth he lived on his own, not bothering to ever see his family again. His hope was that they would remember him for what he represented before leaving the house on that fateful night. As his journey took him across cities, both urban and rural; he himself bumped into people that had more in common with him than he had first thought. People with powers. He came to believe, "There's always someone out there who has it rough than you." Matt came to learn there were those who had powers that couldn't even control it, powers that claimed the life of those they cared about while in his case it was the sacrifice of one he held dear to gain the powers he now held. Heroes and villains alike who hated what they became but did what they believed was right. This inspired him to grow a name, to become 'something' else that people would one day come to recognize; a visage of that which used to be but no longer existed.
Finally he approached a city where he could fit in. It was named Paragon. A city mainly run by heroes as far as he was concerned. The perfect place to run among the people in a disguise and not fear what the people would think.
Abilities, Powers, Equipment, etc
Powers and Abilities
Matt's ability is both complicated and yet very simple. Of course his powers are based on a genetic alteration from chemicals he was exposed to. Some sort of odd strain of particles that through thought could simply be transformed by his very will into solid compounds. His body is actually composed entirely by some sort of substance that resembles fog one would catch in the early morning. But it's mass is greatly superior. An unknown chain of chemicals that gather to form white particles clearly visible. Matt can take it even further beyond to build solid surfaces such as walls and the like to enhance protection or deliver powerful strikes. With an addition, any item within reason can be broken down into mist. For example Matt's alter ego Mist, the costume itself, posses lots of attire easily removed such as items on his utility belt, his guns, etc. Most notably he can break down his cape and manipulate it to form gusts of mist that he bends to his very will. Guns are more complicated, he needs solid objects to manipulate or something less complicated to disassemble and reassemble at will. A more easier task is to take a baton or staff and disassemble it through transformation, manipulate the particles that make up it's form, and then reassemble. Because the object is entirely solid, it's much easier to anticipate where the particle goes to put it back together. There are limits to how much he can reconstruct into the proper chemicals, anything bigger than himself is next to impossible. A few mist-grenades may help with large objects but generally his cape adds a little helping hand which he will often use more often yet the grenades amplify his existing abilities almost doubling in strength when fighting crime.
Unfortunately pain must be inflicted for the affect to take place on his body. Such as being shot, falling great distances, or having amputations. All else must be added solutions to the experiment to enhance manipulation. Otherwise his power is basically out of his control. However Matt is capable to voluntarily shape shift his entire body into mist, vanish, and rearrange in another area. This allows him to perform mysteriously.
It's to be debated that Matt lacks the necessities that is required to live for a normal human being. Not to say he's unable to eat or drink but rather he doesn't feel hunger or become dehydrated when drinking. One would think that in order to create fog one needs the correct temperature and moisture, for one specific unknown reason Matt does not follow the same laws. His temperature remains 98.6 degrees and any tests he allows, shows that his body functions normally.
General Strengths
Matt is both acrobatic, fast, strong, and energetic. Even before the accident, Matt's skills were best compared to a young athlete of his age then. Bench pressing up to 500lbs, running a mile in six minutes flat as his best score. Those abilities have not only doubled but considering he lacks general needs to live, Matt takes three times as much to tire in his current state being over six to nine times better than his previous self. Still quite wise, his intelligence has also remained intact while despite suffering a mental breakdown previously, he has grown to accept what he has become and make means to accept and get passed his obstacles.
Through his free time Matt has also trained himself, working out and studying martial arts. Being a very capable hand to hand combative, Matt is capable of defusing a situation no matter the odds with just his hands and feet. If that fails he moves on to other styles such as weaponry of dual pistols, which he has two sets of equally 4 duplicates of the same pistol type, chains, or even throwing knives. When it comes to combat via his fire arms, he uses a Gun-Kata style of martial arts based on photographic memory and enhanced perception, Ideally: Know where you're opponent will be through anticipation and enact flawlessly to counter.
Equipment
Ever since his accident, Matt has not wasted any time with studying in fact it could be said he kicked it up a few notches. By working for pay as well as doing a few unknown robberies, Matt was able to accumulate money to get proper utilities as he renovated a place not on the map. By doing so Matt was able to build a hide out and from there produce a laboratory. Once everything was installed, Matt began to work on equipment he felt he would need on the field.
Through proper and careful research with an unknown assistant, Matt was able to pinpoint proper chemicals to produce a duplicate substance of that which makes up his composition. In doing so he and his assistant were able to design grenades that hosts one large portion of one half of the chemical and the other half, air itself. When the grenade sets off and the chemical becomes exposed to the open air, a large plume of gas can envelop a large area. From there he can manipulate and control the mist for a long duration during a sort period of time. Like steroids to a addicted workout specialist, these grenades are purely for last ditch efforts or make something just go a lot quicker.
While the grenades seem to give him a large upper hand. Matt also uses a series of dual USP modified pistols by H&K that house bigger rounds specifically designed for the situation. Such as holly rounds to combat demon hordes or beings of magic with rounds etched with runes. He also caters to a martial art style, combining fire arms with acrobatics in order to under power his foes and accomplish his goals. More often than not, Matt as Mist fights to disarm his opponent in order to leave them alive so that they can be caught by the police so they could tried for their crimes. However at times Mist will be known to kill his opponents and during certain circumstances theres no choice.
Matt also uses a variety of hand held weapons such as a baton that folds out a staff through a pump action spring. Most notably he uses this weapon for it's simplicity that allows him to shape shift the weapon into mist in order to manipulate his surroundings. The baton itself is made of impervium.
Throwing daggers are but sub par but he has them none the less when needed. More likely Matt would throw his guns around and leap around shooting around with unparalleled skill and dynamics. Regardless, throwing a knife or two shouldn't come as a surprise.
Finally, at first glance the costume of Mist seems to hold a few chain-linked strands of impervium metal. These chains are used mostly for grappling in order to swing long distances or wrapping up foes to restrain them. Matt can also use his fog manipulation in order to animate the chains and in some cases when he forms a wall of mist in order to block an incoming attack, a foe may hear the cling of metal as well as notice rolls of chain-links gathered after the mist settles back down to the ground.
Enemies
Wendigo
At their first encounter, Mist was unsure what to call it. It was humanoid standing at an average of 5'5" but it was anything but human. Pale white, horns, a grotesque mouth that protruded from it's skull. By all accounts it would fit the descriptions and old mythes of the Wendigo told by Indian Spiritualists. Of course matters got worse upon the few encounters later on. In truth this being was originally the driver of the same truck that caused the accident for Matt.
Originally Michael Buford was a mercenary hired by Crey to acquire rare materials to help with a top secret project that even he himself wasn't aware of. It became known as a Super Soldier program generated on purpose to design Crey hired soldiers and employees alike into super powered beings.
For an unknown reason Michael turned against his contract and stole the semi truck carrying goods. Quite possibly in an attempt to start his own business or project. But in the process he was caught in the blast from his own truck as flames from Matt's car ignited the truck's leaking gas line. With debris from the truck itself and the storage materials already inside, Michael got a dose of the same chemicals Matt did but reacted differently.
In the end Michael Buford became known as the Wendigo. A creature who, under scientific research, grows bigger upon consuming a certain chemical produced within the brain only thought to be the catalyst to what builds a consciousness or soul. Like the legends however the Wendigo has a thirst for humans and on Mist's next few encounters, Mist realized the subject was getting larger.

Training
Martial Arts
While Matt may come across as your stereotypical jock, he held dear the prospects of heroism which came to him through comics and/or video games. The stories captivated him. So it wasn't surprising that he could learn basic martial arts just by careful observation. He practiced on a daily basis training often times to start by himself in front of a tv. Considered Ghetto training. Of course later through the years he would attend classes for advanced studies. Earning degrees one after another with each belt attained. As always Matt was clever and a quick learner as well as since the accident he put more pressure on himself to become even faster.
A female instructor, named Christy, saw something in him as he came in every Tuesday night for training. She pulled him aside and began to get to know him, finding him hesitant at first; she explained it as: "...if he were still holding onto something dear and thought I was threatening that very something." After Matt warmed up to her however training continued and became more frequently. Though the two shared no relationship status, Christy had lost a brother and found the same spirit in Matt that reminded her of her lost one. The two actually became more of a kinship than an attraction.
Finally one day Christy requested Matt to come somewhere else for the following training lessons where she began to teach him levels beyond black belt and into different styles. Mainly focusing around Juditsu and Mua Tai Kick Boxing, she thought it was imperative for him to learn various styles so he could balance them all into one personal fighting style. She saw the potential in him and knew Matt could accomplish it. In the end when she felt Matt was finally ready, the two parted ways.
Gun Kata
Quite often a over romanticized fantasy to many realists. Often seen in movies but horrible ineffective in a real life combat situation involving firearms. But with Matt's advance in perception both through extreme conditioning and his existing intelligence, he trained hard on the principles of the art in order to incorporate into his own. Curiosity Christy would put it. The method of wanting to know more after one is taught all that another could teach. Of course Gun Kata would be his last inspiration but never the less worked equally hard to design a style that worked for him.
Modes of Transportation
Matt, while not as his super powered ego, can often be scene driving the streets of Steel Canyon at the Steel Canyon University in a 2010 Nissan GTR.

Trivia
~ Mist was an original concept of a hero I made up back when I was in Middle School, roughly about 7 years ago. He was like a combination of Moon Knight from the Spiderman Franchise meeting Spawn.
~ His main villain is actually a Wendigo (Indian myth for a creature born when a human congests human flesh) The purpose was to create a creature that was named for it's appearance as it's large, skinny, and scary.
~ Matt had some how invented his own form of Gun Kata Thus uses his firearms frequently
~ Dark Armor is Role Played as white mist or fog.
~ Mist can't control chains with his mind or emotion like Spawn can, it's actually the manipulation of the mist he's most notably known for.
~ Mist uses cartridges like smoke grenades with a specific compound he made himself.
~ Mist's super ability is that his body is composed of fog through a complicated process but he's able to give solid form, shape, texture, and color.
~ Anything within reason that he touches, is able to break down into mist particles.
~ Teleportation is best described as breaking down his physical structure and gathering in a new spot.
~ Also despite the cost of which requires to manipulate, amputations and the such, Matt is somehow able to vanish and reappear by will without strain or pain.
~ Matt endures pain when ever his body inflicts damage despite being able to reassemble quite quickly. Such as severing of limbs or getting shot. It takes a lot of strength for him not to cry out in pain when it happens. In theory one could cut off his head and it would feel to him as if it were happening but he can reappear perfectly fine and act completely mellow.
~ Mist's cape is used as a catalyst considering his abilities pertaining to body manipulation need to be triggered through inflictions. This is also why he uses the baton-staff of his at his disposal and his trademarked Mist Grenades. His hand made baton-staff hybrid weapon is also used along with his cape as controlled solutions.
~ Despite Wendigo (Michael Buford) being the culprit to Matt's fate, Matt will never find this out at least not until long after Wendigo's demise.
~ Manipulation of mist particles rivals that of Gaara from the Naruto series, who uses sand instead. Like Gaara as well, Matt requires a source and can't simply use his body as a weapon without some sort of outside factor. Despite the ability to teleport explained above, otherwise he requires severe inflictions to use his body. This is why Matt carries his Mist Grenades, they are the outside source that he can bend to his will without jeopardizing his body. Otherwise his cape and baton-staff come in as a front.
