FOAM MAN

"Laugh at me, will you?! Prepare to see the true power of foam!"

Matthew Rogers, a genius child, was encouraged by his parents to excel. They expected great things from him, but the pressure got to him sometimes. Not to mention the bullying he suffered throughout high school. His obsession with foam was cemented in college when a few frat members placed him in the campus' clock tower while he was sleeping. Awakening disoriented, he stumbled out of the tower. But miraculously, a truck driver transporting new foam mats for the gym saw him, rushing the truck into place just in time as Matt landed on top of them.

After college he ended up at a Crey research facility in Paragon City, working on new technologies to help better the world. He went an unusual route in his research, studying the properties and moldable nature of foam, much to the amusement of his fellow scientists. He discovered a formula that would create a base liquid foam which could be altered into by using simple energy frequencies into other forms of foam. From an energy suppressing foam that worked much better than any fire extinguisher on the market, as well as working on all types of energy, to a fast hardening foam which could be used in emergencies to repair damaged structures.

But the higher ups at Crey Industries didn't think the work was cost-effective, so they pulled his funding. He snapped, plotting his revenge on his employers and those who had ridiculed and shunned him for his genius all his life. Oone night while alone, he made his way to his personal office, gathered up his research and files, erased all records of any of his work from the company computer network and finally destroyed all of the paper files except those he took for himself. Hacking the computer bank account and transfering $100 million into several hidden private accounts, he left Crey Industries and never looked back. Using aliases and dummy corporations, he was able to set up a private lab on the outskirts of Paragon City, continuing his own private research.

He had broken the law, but saw the ends as justifying the means, believing his breakthroughs would save countless lives. His lab however lacked a number of the safety measures he previously had access to. Working for months with dangerous chemicals and breathing in the fumes didn't do any good to his already unhinged mind. He saw those who tried to slow his research as enemies, those who protected them as hapless pawns. He designed a suit of superstrong foam to protect himself from harm. Armed with a "foam-gun" (A modified flamethrower that spewed quick-hardening foam), Matt stormed one of Crey's many banks. Though Rogers' heist was inevitably foiled by Monsterface, a recent Arachnos-plotted riot at the Zig allowed him to escape.
