Born in Berlin, Germany, Emmett Kraminski was orphaned at age seven when his parents were killed in an automobile accident. What's even more heartbreaking: It was Christmas Eve. For a two years, Emmett lived in an orphanage until a couple who were unable to conceive took him in. Emmett's adolescence and teenage years were fairly normal, though it was clear he possessed a prodigious knack for engineering and inventing. Eventually, Emmett relocated to America after being accepted into MIT, going on the graduate and start his own business, selling his inventions.

A few years later, Emmett discovered his business partner had been embezzling money and committing various corporate crimes such as fraud, industrial espionage, and blackmail. After incriminating evidence leaked, Emmett attempted to distance himself from the ensuing fiasco and trial, but nevertheless, his company was driven bankrupt... on Christmas Day. Enraged at his frequent misfortune on the holiday in question, Emmett adopted the Tannenbomb persona, developed hand grenade-like explosive weapons and set out to spread "Christmas cheer" to his enemies and business rivals... starting with his former partner.

Emmett bombed the prison he was being held in in an attempt to drive him out in the ensuing riot. But Monsterface arrived on the scene, thwarting his plans and sending Emmett to very same prison he had originally set out to destroy.
