History
Mortal Man's origins are shrouded mystery, but there are a few things that are known. He was found by a member of Inevitable Evolution in a Chronal Prison, taking a single moment and stretching it out to the end of time, in essence keeping the victim out of the timestream as it progresses. Mortal Man claims that he was put there by a god, though he hasn't given many details on which one. He occasionally mentions his old team, with names like Lucky Bunny and Dr. Thunder.
Known By Rezz: Mortal Man’s parents were missionaries, killed by rebels in foreign lands. Saved from the wreckage, he was shut down for days until a shaman took him on a spirit journey where he found his soul, his totem, and decided what he would be. As God existed to scourge man and make sure he was righteous, he decided to do the same for the Gods.
Known By Shadowed Twilight: Mortal Man was a member of a team called the Justice Union, where he had unrequited love for the only female member, Lucky Bunny. A brave, kind, and intelligent woman, Lucky Bunny had the power to control probability, the ultimate source of superpowers in Mortal Man's home dimension.
The Golden Gladiator had once been a powerful ancient warrior from Earth, selected to be the avatar of a god of conquest, was also uplifted by a cosmic being to serve him. The combination of cosmic and divine power made him beholden to neither and the Golden Gladiator became powerful and uncontrolled conqueror of the cosmos. When turning his sights to Earth, the Justice Union intercepted him, only to have their most powerful member, Captain Viper, literally torn in half in front of their very eyes. Mortal Man instructed Lucky Bunny to absorb all the probability she could from the world, and when she had... he shot her in the head. Superpowers went away and the Golden Gladiator died in a burst of extreme improbability.
Shortly after, Mortal Man invoked a grand ritual of 'little magic' to head into the world tree of Norse myth in the spirit world. As the Norse gods of his world had given power to Nazi sorcerors, he judged them wanting and set the events of Ragnarok into motion, destroying that part of the spirit world and the gods within. His hammer he took from Thor- what, if any, other artifacts he claimed remains unknown.
Powers
Mortal Man has a variety of abilities within the human range of learning and training, but often taken to extremes. An accomplished martial artist, Mortal Man has some measure of chi control; a brilliant scientist, he has on occasion created physics defying devices, including a forcefield belt; and an advanced occultist, Mortal Man uses bits of ritualistic magic, shamanism, and body control.
Known by Synge Cabiri: He said that he got his hammer from Thor after killing him... though that might just be a joke.
Weakness and Limitations
Mortal Man's weakness is ultimately his mortal nature- he will die. Oddly, this is a fact he draws strength from rather than become worried. Because of his multi-disciplinary approach, he is often not as skilled in a particular area as most specialists. He will usually acquiesce to those who show a deeper knowledge on a subject than he has. Being a man out of time, there are some bits of slang and culture that still elude him, and he is still catching up on computers and other advanced instruments, though he often does so at a rapid pace. Last, Mortal Man is known for some amount of pride and arrogance. He feels that mankind's place is not to kneel and scrape to any creature, nor humble himself in the face of the divine.
Affiliations
Mortal Man has most recently joined Inevitable Revolution as a doctor. He takes this role quite seriously, and has insisted that all members get a physical in the coming weeks if hes expected to treat them.
Character Inspiration
Mortal Man is largely inspired by the pulp heroes of the Golden Age. While he is not the greatest at anything, his sheer versatility and willpower are what really make him a hero, if a very dark one.
