Who?
"Почем я знаю."
A relative newcomer to Paragon, Nika is rarely seen without her handler, Samuel Maliss. The pair tends to keep themselves to themselves, but anyone with access to Freedom corps database will be able to ascertain that Nika was a former KGB agent who defected to the west. Mother Russia was less than happy with this, sending agents to renegotiate her plans. Thankfully, Uncle Sam was on hand to help out, sending Maliss – an undercover operative with links to both the CIA and The Marines, who managed to 'persuade' (using a rather heroic display of sharp-shooting and generally being very manly) Mother Russia that pushing spikes through someone's joints isn't the best way to regain their loyalty.
The badly-injured Nika and Maliss made their escape, apparently spending months travelling across the eastern block, into Europe before finally resurfacing in Paragon City almost six months later.
Identification and abilities
"Как тебя зовут?"
Nika speaks with a pronounced Russian accent, and moves with an almost ethereal grace when fighting. Her steps are nearly almost silent and she has a way of turning up when she's least expected.
Her weapon of choice is a pair of Sai, although she has been known to use a Katana on occasion. She also carries a small arsenal of throwing knives, which she is capable of using with deadly precision. Although registered with Freedom Corps, she always fights using lethal force.
Either Nika's background, or her personality means that she shares little of herself with anyone - appearing to trust only Maliss. When 'working' she always wears a mask, her black hair pulled up in buns to keep it out of her way. When out of uniform, her hair falls lose around her shoulders and she has a tendency to lurk in the background, watching and listening rather than talking or taking part.
She always wears a pair of fingerless gloves, which hide a scar in the centre of her hand and at her wrist, as well as a series of pinprick scars across her knuckles. There is an odd, double scar at her elbows, as if something was pushed through the joints there, twice.
Occasionally, she appears to be limping.
Fiercely protective of her privacy, one of the first things she did on arrival in Paragon was to have mental barriers put into her mind, by a telepath with a level 50 clearance. Those capable of working around those barriers will find evidence that her mind has been significantly altered in the past.
Weaknesses and Limitations
"По-видимому, нет другого выхода."
• An incident with her previous employers has left Nika with metal joints in her ankles, elbows and knuckles, and scars on both sides of both palms, wrists, elbows and ankles. While most of the time she doesn't have a problem with it, the joints are weak and can be a little tempremental.
• Will take just about any drug offered to her, just for the hell of it.
• Can exhibit symptoms close to withdrawal.
• Any attempts to push her telepathy beyond it's limits causes her considerable pain, confusion and exhaustion, which can last several days.
• Hates psychics and the majority of women.
