"We Move For All Mankind" |
Nova was always an antisocial girl; she isolated herself from others, feeling like she was a freak. By definition of regular folk, and her school mates, she was indeed, a freak. She's sarcastic, and rude at times. She doesn't open up to people unless she can trust them. (One look into their head and she can tell. ) She can always make people laugh. Whether it be her blatant sarcasm at other's expense, or her way of dying her hair every few days. She's a gloomy rainbow in herself. Egotistical in her own right, meaning not at all. She doesn't give herself enough credit unless it's given to her. She's used to being flirted with, and tired of knowing what's on people mind in the process; so, her initial response is *rolls eyes and scoffs.* She can be a permanent friend, or a burning enemy. When she's alone she finds a quiet dark place, meditates, and fades into the shadows.
Nova Pyne was born on October 9th, 1990 to Darren and Patricia Pyne in the Kings Row hospital. As a toddler she learned to walk, talk, and read faster than most children of her age. However, when she turned 6, things started to go odd for Little Nova. Every time she went into the sun, or any bright light for that matter, she would burn. A scalding pain that would haunt her wherever she went. She started to dress in dark clothes, have evil thoughts, and inflicted pain on herself. Until one day, she was sitting in her attic, the dusty dark attic, crying. Her fingers glowed a purple and small scraps of shadows flew into her. The shadows bound with her soul, the darkness flowed through her veins. She smiled. Her small body floated in the center of the room, the waves encircling her, caressing her. Then she blew a hole through the roof. Nova sailed through high school, using her powers in any way she could. Scaring those who messed with her. When she graduated, she worked with her childhood mentor Margot Black at her diner, waitressing. Also she began to apprentice at a tattoo shop. Nova's father, Darren, was a policeman long before she was born. He always talked with her, (after she was arrested for tagging, breaking things, or any other thing she considered fun at the time.) told her stories of heroic busts he achieved with the PPD, showed her the newspaper clippings of him, catching yet another criminal. She was inspired in seconds, as most artists are. She had her epiphany. The sun was falling, and Nova took advantage of it. She donned her tattered scarf around her head, delicately framing her face. She covered her identity. Along with a black jogging suit, she patrolled the roof-tops of King's Row, using her torrents of Shadow to immobilize her enemies. The people she saved [as the Paragon Times states] recalls the blue/purple glow that was emitted from her blasts, eyes, and hands. They watched as she glided with ease, glowing, curving.... She earned the name.... Nova Dusk.
Nova's father, Darren Pyne the first, was a Policeman every since he graduated from high school. He's extremely prejudiced against super powered people/mutants/whatever. which makes Nova's life 3,000 times harder, trying to hide what she is from him. Her mother Patricia Pyne was a journalist, a strong independent woman. ( some say that's where Nova got most of her traits. ) That was ultimately her downfall. She was killed when a Rikti invasion hit. Her Brother and Sister, Darren II and Ruby, were born before the disappearance, they don't remember her. Nova lives in a separate apartment away from her immediate family. Sort of an isolated family life.
Nova's powers have many names. Some of the most common are: Shadowmancy, Nethermancy, Nelokinesis, or just simply Shadow Manipulation. She has the elusive ability to draw in the opposite of light, the obscured forgotten on the other side. Shadows. she can absorb the shadows themselves and use them in to inflict pain, create blasts to send foes flying, and draw in the essence of life from them. She also has the ability to see directly people's emotions, intentions, wants, and fears. ( not thoughts. ) she's a powerful foe, in the aspect that she's always one or two steps ahead of the enemy.
The light, specifically. it could potentially kill her if she was exposed for too long.
