Overview
Some people just want to help others, but are ill-equipped to do so. Jayde is one of these people, having no powers but possessing a strong desire to do something. Though not as naive as she once was, she regrets nothing that has happened in her life, seeing everything as being a means to an end.
Character Background
Born into a military family, Jayde spent most of her childhood constantly moving about the country. When her father was killed in a training accident, her mother decided to settle down in their current city - Paragon. Only able to afford an apartment in King's Row, the family had to sacrifice to make ends meet. Even though she was suffering, Jayde was acutely aware of the people around her who had it worse. She often gave what little she had to those around her. She promised herself that when she got older, she would do whatever she could to make other's lives better.
Longbow
Upon turning 18, Jayde went to the Hero Corps Recruitment Station in King's Row, determined to do what she saw as the most prudent thing she could to help the people of Paragon. Her training began shortly after, something she excelled at. Her test scores and innate abilities were in the top percentile, and Jayde eventually joining the ranks of the Longbow Guardians with top honors. Like many other new recruits, Jayde was almost immediately shipped off to the Rogue Islands, where she aided Longbow operations against the subjects of Project DESTINY. Her team performed admirably, but eventually they were defeated in a shootout against several Destined Ones. Captured and interrogated by Arachnos, even Jayde's determination and training failed her. The information she surrendered lead to the destruction of two Longbow bases in Port Oakes.
Arachnos
Seeing the potential of Jayde, Arachnos agents started a severe torture and brainwashing session on her. After several weeks, she was a completely different person. Sporting her new Wolf Spider armor, she was assigned to guard details all over the Rogue Islands. She proved herself against her old comrades, helping take down several Longbow and Wyvern operations. For her loyalty and prowess, she was shifted into Crab Spider training, undergoing her implantation surgery and the mandatory month-long training without the usual issues others have had with the procedure. She was soon joining raids into Paragon, using her leadership and deadly backpack to assist the strike force. On one of the raids, however, PPD Awakened Kheldians blasted her into unconsciousness, and she was abandoned by her compatriots.
Present
After her capture by the PPD, Jayde underwent several months of deprogramming, supplemented with experimental drugs. She will never be the same as she was once, but it is slowly coming back to her. She has been deeply troubled by her actions, and has asked for a chance to redeem herself and to reaffirm that she still wants to dedicate her life to helping people. She is now on probationary status, monitored at all times and has been tasked only with operations inside Paragon.
Personality
Jayde has always been a good person at heart, although in her youth she was blindly naive about how the world worked. Now, she is more pragmatic, although still dedicated to trying to help others. After everything she has been through, she has amazingly kept a positive outlook on most things. She has become much more cautious and calculated about how she goes about accomplishing her tasks, however.
Goals/Motivations
As of this time, Jayde is mostly interested in proving her loyalty to Longbow and the people of Paragon. She has also been looking for more opportunities to help others, and has seen the Praetorian threat as a the largest hazard to the people.
Affiliations
- Longbow: Since her return to active duty, Longbow has given her more leeway in most of her assignments. She is mostly tasked with assisting against the Praetorian threat recently, due to her security clearance and experience.
- The Disaffected: In a rare show of anything but apathy, a member of this loosely-organized super group assisted Jayde during an operation in Talos. She has since become an unofficial member, though the organization hasn't yet bothered to call in any favors from her.
Trivia/RP Notes
- For reasons unknown, Jayde's access to the Arachnos teleportation system was never invalidated, allowing her to utilize it to call in Omega Bombs.
- All of Jayde's Arachnobots have names (Spiderlings: Raul, Lamarr and Jules. Disruptors: Cosette and Françoise. Blaster: Zeke).
- When she is distracted, Jayde's crab legs have a habit of poking or prodding those within arm's reach.
