Introduction
History
Ortin Lockheart is a generic self insert, modeled after a sleeker, grittier, and sexier version of its creator. The template was first applied to the Roleplaying and Fanfiction board variant that debuted in the roleplaying club The Dojang, sometime in the late 2002. While this is the second time it has been openly used in any venue, the likeness has consistently been used at a pilot character for every plot the creator has imagined since then, although the character is phased out for a completely different character that meshes more firmly with the plot (as well as to avoid a foul cry of "Marty Stu!").
The original character was a telekinetic with a handwaved family upbringing. Besides the ability to move objects with his mind, he was capable of creating weapons out of psychokinetic energy (the standards being a staff, a curved sword, and a prehensile whip). He spent the larger part of his career underpowered compared to his fellow Dojang members. However, he experienced a power spike when his rapidly growing intellect manifested a malevolent alternate personality, which besides heralded a general increase in his prowess with telekinesis marked his ability to concentrate equally on two things at once. It also marked the beginning of a Darker and Edgier character.
Constant hooks are his mutant origin: his powers are inherited from his father, a figure he lives without for his entire life. This is because the malevolent entity in Ortin is not an isolated incident: in most continuities involving the character his father has already explosively killed himself to prevent his own darker side from manifesting, taking control of his body, and attempting to destroy the world. Unearthing this will trigger a breakdown in Ortin that only a touchy feelie moment involving the female lead will be able to cure, and even then he will be dealing with the impact of this discovery for several story arcs.
Current Incarnation
This particular Ortin is much more lighthearted, although it retains traces of cynicism in it. It is heavily influenced by the 1990's anti-hero movement, but tries to stay away from the mature topics that were covered in comics of the era. The greatest effect this has on the character is his open scorn for colourful costumes and capes.

Telekinesis
Telekinesis is a derivative field of psychokinesis, which is an umbrella term for any number of fields which involve paranormal activity, from teleportation to setting things on fire. In the instance of Lockheart, telekinesis refers to the control of energy, in the form of matter manipulation (perhaps the purest form of telekinesis, the "movement of the mind").
Energy can be the function of many things. The human body produces chemical energy via food consumption and digestion. However, the human body is not an efficient producer of energy, with energy lost as heat during activity. This is why telekinetics are a mysterious, potentially groundbreaking development in paranormal research: this "movement of the mind" is 100% efficient. All energy produced by a telekinetic is applied towards work (a technical term for force applied in the real world).
Ortin Lockheart is one of these telekinetics. He produces 100% efficient energy from absolutely nothing.
The applications of such energy are limited only by imagination and training. Such examples are Lockheart's energy punches: by taking telekinetic energy and accelerating it to speeds close to the speed of light, he can take advantage of the Force = mass times acceleration to produce bone breaking blows. In theory he can do this from any distance, but in practice he is confined to his punches, as in his imagination the force and the fist are inextricably linked. This does not prevent him from applying the rule to long ranged bursts of energy. However, in practice he is incapable of the sheer theoretical speed that could be achieved by his powers. Whether this hardcoded handicap will ever be overcome is a mystery.
Despite the incredible theory and efficiency behind his power, the engine that is his brain still cannot exceed critical speeds. Lockheart's power has limits, the foremost being brain matter. From limited reports on other telekinetics, heightened brain activity is the cause, or perhaps a side effect, of the mental state required to exert kinetic energy. This leads most researchers to speculate that telekinetics utilize more of their
