Character History
Deadly Beginnings
Sam Paracel was born into a single-parent family in one of the many low-rent tenement buildings of Kings Row. With two older brothers and three sisters (one younger), there was little time for any one child and the siblings were all too close of an age to really govern each other. Even at the age of five, it was easy for Sam to slip away from the cramped space called "home" and observe the world around him. He saw gang members demanding goods from local citizens--the strong demanding from the weak. The child also heard stories from factory laborers about their dangerous working conditions; the poisons and toxins that worried them at night. Sam listened very, very closely.
It was through carefully planned "accidents" that Sam began to dispose of his siblings. One fell from the roof, another ate something very disagreeable, one simply never woke from sleep. By the age of seven, only a sister and a brother remained, but Sam still lacked for attention from his mother who spent more time at work and with the dead than him. Sam judged that another sibling death would solidify any suspicions of him for the previous "tragedies" in his family. And the boy had already decided that his mother was too weak for him to even want her attention.
The family lived in relative comfort for another year or so, when his mother became pregnant again. At the age of nine, the boy who would become Poisonhead saw his mother coddle and give attention to his newest brother. It was with cold, dispassionate, green eyes that Sam Paracel set the apartment building ablaze, disposing himself of all familial ties.
Until his mid-teens, Sam fell in and out of gangs, never finding fulfillment and saw them as weak individuals who only found strength in their numbers. Individual weakness was unacceptable. The intelligent boy used his growing knowledge of poisons to exit the gang, killing many members and feigning his own death. He would then adapt a new name and adjust his body language and posture to find a new gang.
Wasted Youth
By the age of sixteen, Kings Row had slumped even further into decay, with new gangs like the Skulls moving in. Finding it easier to move freely, Sam left Kings Row for Founder's Falls. He used his cunning and charisma to endear himself to students at the university, and read every textbook he could get his hands on. The teenager would sneak into the library and spending his nights reading.
Many students went missing or were found dead over the next two years. Many of these deceased students were products of Sam's experiments with poison or technology, while some were simply deaths caused by Sam's attitude towards weakness. As intelligent and careful as he was, however, a hero who had begun their own investigation of these murders was starting to realize the deaths were connected.
Thomas Kirk, the man who would eventually take up the mantle of Eusinge, was enrolled at PCU and, using his considerable investigate talents, put together clues of the serial killer's movements. Thomas spent nights tracking the charismatic drifter, Sam Paracel, waiting for proof of his crimes. When Sam kidnapped a female student and took her to a basement lab, Kirk saw--and decided to stop the killer before another life was lost.
The two fought a dangerous battle in the basement. While Thomas Kirk was a superior fighter, Sam had an intimate knowledge of the laboratory and an arsenal of deadly toxins and noxious chemicals to keep the investigative student at bay--at least for a while. Sam hurled a vial at his opponent, the contents of which were a new "sticky poison". Thomas countered, sending the vial back towards the serial killer. Unprepared and startled by Thomas's reflexes, Sam was unable to stop the vial from hitting his face and shattering, dripping its venom over Sam's face. Though immune to the effects of his poison, it left permanent scars on his face. Sam hurled himself at his foe, but was again stopped as a kick to the windpipe from Thomas rendered him wounded and unable to return to the fray. From that day forth, Sam's voice would be little more than a raspy whisper.
Thomas escorted the student to safety while Paragon City's finest escorted Sam to a holding cell. Thomas secretly supplied the police with all the evidence he had gathered. It was enough to give Sam Paracel no less than three life sentences in the Ziggurat.
Zig and Out
Sam Paracel underwent many psychiatric reviews in the Zig. His case was and academically curious one. Was he a psychopath or sociopath? It was clear that any emotions displayed were little more than lies intended to manipulate. Sam Paracel was without remorse or conscious, a killer who murdered for reasons strictly his own.
In the Zig, Sam's story was told around tables and earned him the nickname "Poisonhead", describing both the source of the scars on his face as well as his preferred method of killing and largest sampling of knowledge. Sam simply took the nickname and made it his own. The originators of the nickname had "accidents" over the next few months, though none could prove Poisonhead was the instigator.
His fight in the PCU basement had taught Sam there was true value in strength and reflexes. Sam spent some time in prison transforming himself from a gangly teen into a more muscular fighter. He preferred absolute brain over brawn, but he would not be brought down by a kick again.
When the infamous Zig breakout occurred, Poisonhead seized his opportunity and hitched a ride to the Rogue Isles. From there, he snuck into the Rikti War Zone, where he made his base. Using the technology from fallen Rikti, he built an armored suit, further protecting him from Longbow agents and other heroes. He also began implementing an arsenal of nuclear poisons into his costume and hid his face in a protective mask.
Now, more deadly than ever, Poisonhead returns to his research and studies, with no morals to impede him from ever getting his way.
