Blame it on bad luck

Soon after arriving in Las Vegas way back when, Jean-Luc encountered the Irish vixen known only as Shamrock for the first time. She never revealed her given name to Luc; heck, he's not quite sure she had one. Caught off-guard by her brazen personality and stunning looks, Shamrock initially took advantage of Luc after a one night stand, robbing him of most of his belongings and skipping out the next morning.

Using a little bit of magic and willpower, Luc eventually tracked her down, stealing back his possessions in the process. For days the two played cat-and-mouse games until Luc learned of Shamrock's innate abilities. She possessed the power to alter probability, essentially making her own luck. Teaming up, the two won millions of dollars playing roulette, switching casinos every day as to not arouse suspicions.

But somehow (Luc drunkenly boasted about their scam to a cocktail waitress who alerted the casino's management), the two were found out. Against all odds, Luc narrowly escaped, though Shamrock wasn't as lucky. Caught by police, she was deported back to Ireland and jailed. To this day, Luc regrets her fate. Unbeknown to him however, the villainess is also a member of the Homo magi and inadvertently cursed Luc with immortality as she swore revenge on him. He's yet to notice he's not aging as fast as he should however.

Love Is A Deserter

Chelsea Vance could arguably be considered Jean-Luc's first true love. After years of traveling, Luc wound up in Paragon City. At the time Chelsea was working as an amateur superhero, having gained a limited degree of super speed through a faulty scientific experiment. The two met when Chelsea saved Jean-Luc from being beaten by a pack of Trolls he'd riled up. Immediately smitten, Jean-Luc slowly charmed his way into her life.

Luc found himself being honest and downright gentlemanly when he was around Chelsea; something he'd never quite experienced before. He didn't hate it either. For the better part of a year, the two were inseparable. And then Luc's past returned to haunt him.

To escape his debtors back in Baton Rouge, Jean-Luc was forced to fight for his life and in a struggle, killed Louis Auvray, one of the men sent to kill him. Auvray's brother Sebastien, a brutally efficient hit-man and bounty hunter, tracked Luc across the country to finally, Paragon City. He interrupted a date between Luc and Chelsea, shooting Luc in the arm before attempting to kidnapping Chelsea. Jean-Luc was able to summon enough energy to teleport both himself and Chelsea away, however. After she was safely hidden away, Jean-Luc left to confront his would-be assassin.

It wasn't long before Jean-Luc was attacked again, though this time he was ready for it. The two fought viciously, with Luc's abilities saving him in the end. Knocking Sebastien unconscious, Luc left the police deal with him as he returned to Chelsea.

Jean-Luc broke it off after that, convinced that in the end, he'd only end up hurting Chelsea.

Madame Camille is a con woman posing as a fortune teller in the French Quarter of Baton Rouge. She has information on almost everything due to her massive network of contacts and her daughter, Genevieve, a skilled computer hacker. Jean-Luc once saved her shop from being destroyed by a local group of hoodlums. As thanks, she provided him with intel before he left the city.

Antonio Juarez was a young mutant whom Jean-Luc encountered passing through in Arizona. Antonio's burgeoning abilities transformed him into a humanoid reptilian-like creature. Frightened by his appearance, a mob of angry townspeople cornered him in an alley. Full of confusion and anger, Antonio lashed out, accidentally wounding a member of the group. Jean-Luc's timely intervention defused the situation, with Antonio eventually coming to terms with his mutation.

Pierre Bonnevie worked as a fence in Baton Rouge when he met Jean-Luc for the first time. Luc had stolen an expensive item of Pierre's; one that he was meant to keep safe for a client. Pierre sent a few thugs after Jean-Luc to retrieve said item, but before they could catch him, Pierre's angry client hired a hit-squad to kill them all and retrieve the item. In a race against time, Jean-Luc saved Pierre's life and he skipped town to escape his wealthy client's wrath. He's recently been spotted in Paragon City.
