Background

Early Years

Sojiro is the first born son of his father, Emperor Touma, and his wife, Empress Hana. He grew up as the 12th eldest of 40 children, but as the only male, he was groomed from birth to follow in his father's footsteps. Most of his life was spent trying to please his perfectionist mother so that he could become the ruler to lead the Jade Empire into it's third millennium. According to his tutors, he excelled in all subjects to which he trully applied himself.

When Sojiro was nine, he tried to learn from the palace guard how to properly wield a katana. Since his mother was against him learning anything dangerous, he approached the guards as one of the young runners in the palace. It took some convincing and perseverance before they were willing to show him anything. Nothing felt quite as right to him as the weight of a blade in his hands. In a rather short amount of time, he was regularly besting his father's guards. On his tenth birthday, he challenged one of the new guards, one he hadn't really seen before, to a sparring match before his usual training. This new guard was a boy closer to his own age, and Sojiro thought that he could impress the other guards and show the new kid a thing or two. While the match was one-sided, it was not in the way he thought it was going to be, and it was not the end of his confusion either.
