History

Benjamin Bower was born to civil engineer Dominick Bower and his wife Donna Bower and a brother for his three siblings Rose, Jeanne and Robert. Ben's life from birth was simple. He was raised in a small house in Miami, Florida. Ben was a well adjusted, high spirited boy who was good at athletics and school. He was personable and he found it easy to make friends. His family was very close. When Ben turned 8 however, things changed. Ben's oldest brother Robert, was sent off to a camp during vacation, but never returned. His mother and father sat him and sisters down one week after Robert's departure and told them that Robert had been killed at camp during a kayaking accident. The news devastated the small family. They attended the funeral but things continued to change for the family. Ben's parents seemed to return to normal fairly quickly, but he and his sisters were wracked with grief for a long time. Shortly after this Dominick opened up his own engineering company calling it Bower Enterprises. Ben returned to school but began to distance himself from his friends and his school work began to suffer.

Three years later Jeanne would be sent off to a vacation camp. Exactly one week later the family sat down again. Ben and his sister Rose anticipated what was happening. The routine came full circle again. Jeanne had died in an abseiling accident. The funeral was held. However, Bower Enterprises continued to grow and was more successful. Ben's remaining family moved into a bigger house shortly after, his parents claiming a change would be good for them. Ben spiralled further into depression.

One year later Rose would go. Exactly the same thing happened for what Ben thought would be the last time. At this point, he was scared of not only being alone, but that these coincidences didn't seem so coincidental anymore. The wheel would turn one more time before Ben's life would completely change as he knew it.

At this point, Ben's family were extremely wealthy and even though they had experienced much tragedy, his parents were much loved members of the community. His father, now an extremely successful CEO of Bower Enterprises whose research had turned to helping create medicines to assist superheroes boost their powers and cope with the transition of new mutants to their abilities, hosted charity events regularly. Ben would often go along out of duty to his family but keep to himself for most of the night. It was at one such charity event that Ben's mutation manifested itself. Suddenly, Ben could hear voices. They were loud and there were so many. Ben started to look around the room and he realised that some of the voices were coming from familiar people but some of them weren't even moving their mouths. It was at that instant that he knew he was hearing their thoughts. Ben began to cry from the confusion and his secondary power of telekinesis kicked in and all of the furniture around him began to levitate. The last thing he remembers is seeing the look of shock on his parents faces as his father made a phone call. Seconds later, masked men in black came. Ben was struck and he blacked out.

Ben awoke in a room which consisted of a bed. Soon after he woke, his door was opened and he was taken again by guards. Ben resisted, kicking, screaming and lashing out with his telekinesis. He was knocked out again. When he came to a second time, he was in a chair. He was bound and unable to move and as he moved his head, he could feel thousands of needles pressing against his head. Shortly afterwards, a familiar figure with a syringe would appear in the doorway...his father. Ben's father would proceed to drug Ben to access his precognitive abilities. His father used these predictions to find new mutant children to exploit and also grow his business. This would continue for the next three years of his life.

On one occasion a friend of Ben's fathers, who Ben recognised from the charity event, came to collect Ben and possibly have some fun beforehand with him. Ben had other plans for the man. He lashed out at the unsuspecting man with his telepathy and died instantly. Ben immediately began to have thoughts of escape and thought that if he could somehow convince everyone around him that he was Harold Dennison, his father's friend, he might have a chance of escape. Ben, with these thoughts in mind, stuck his head out of his cell door. "Finished already Dennison?", a guard said, "Uhh...yeah..", was Ben's response. Not wasting a moment. Ben quickly walked out of the complex and after he was far enough away ran....to Paragon City.

Welcome to Paragon City: City of Heroes

Early on in his time in Paragon City, Ben found himself involved in a ragtag group of people who loved to party and have a good time. This group consisted of Ardente Anima - a large, strong giant who Ben looked up to as an older brother figure, Arroan - a demon who took Ben on as a student of the psychic arts, Reppu - a young android girl who would later become human, Napalm - a mysterious, super strong woman with a fiery temper and Wolf J. Havoc - a being merged with the spirit of an ex-air force pilot and a wolf spirit. Ben was drawn to the carefree nature of this group, however, the more he studied with Arroan and the more he learned about his abilities the more he began to remember his past. Ben would also meet two young men who would catch his eye, the young man claiming to be human only - Walter and a young magician - Loni.

During this time that Ben learned that his brother and sisters may still be alive and may still be held captive by his parents. Ben began to draw inwardly and began to make plans to free them. He would become so consumed with this that he began to believe that his new 'friends' would never care about his plight and soon he began to truly believe that he was alone, even though he was surrounded by many people. Several incidences lead to bad blood being created between Ben, Reppu and Wolf. Ben decided to go his own way. Arro continued to teach Ben, however that petered out over time but Ardy remained a faithful friend to Ben and reassured him that if he ever needed help to contact him.

The Prodigal Son

As Ben began to make his plans for the release of his brother and sister, he began to draw further away from everybody. Occasionally he would make contact with Walter, as it was one of the few ways he felt he could connect to his humanity, but for the most part he spent his days training physically and studying psychic combat. In a short period of time Ben would learn of the ability to create psychic 'weapons' which could be used in combat. Ben focussed his energies into being able to create such weapons and also began to study the ways of ninjitsu.

One night, as he began to plan how he was going to carry out his mission, he discussed his plight with Loni. Loni immediately empathised with Ben's situation, recounting his own painful experiences and offered to help Ben. After some negotiation, Ben agreed. Shortly afterwords he would met Ardy who would also offer to help Ben. His solo mission suddenly became a party of five after Ardy also asked his 'brother' Moka and his new girlfriend, River, to come along also.

Ben began to devise a plan which would involve Loni magically altering their appearance so that they could break into Bower Enterprises, find where his brother and sisters were being held prisoner and subsequently free them.

During their mission, the further they investigated Bower Enterprises, the more horrific it became. It was soon made clear that Bower Enterprises was capturing mutants and siphoning off their powers using whatever means necessary. To make things worse, they were creating clones, presumably to act as hosts for whatever combination of powers Ben's parents decided to bestow upon them.

They discovered the locations of Ben's sister, Rose and his brother, Robert. When they found Rose, she was entombed in rock, which it was assumed was a part of her mutation, and she was also unconscious. Moka quickly helped her out, while the others continued. As they found Robert, who was also being experimented on the PA system made an announcement. It was Ben's mother Donna, who was 'welcoming' Ben home. The group had been found out.

As they attempted to flee they were confronted by Donna, who now possessed superhuman regenerative abilities and strength. However, the group were able to overpower her and as she was recharging from unconsciousness, the group fled with Robert and Rose. The mission, was semi-successful.

Home Sweet Home

Ben took Rose and Robert to Dallas, Texas and helped them begin to rebuild a normal life to themselves. While he was there he met a mutant by the name of Nicholas who had the ability to control time and space. The two talked and got to know each other very well and fell in love. Nicholas created a time/space continuum for Ben to use. The continuum was self sustaining and while in it, he had the opportunity to train both in ninjitsu and using his mutant abilities. When he finished, 5 years had passed in the vaccum while only one year had passed in the real world.

When he came out of the vaccuum, he thanked Nicholas but left him in Dallas saying that he had to deal with his past on his own. Now Ben has travelled back to Paragon City to deal with his parents and Bower Enterprises once and for all.

Powers and Abilities

Powers

Telekinesis : Ability to psionically manipulate the physical aspects of reality. He can also move and levitate other people. While he can move objects from a distance and fly as other telekinetics do, he has shown little inclination to do either in combat situations. He is capable of levitating more than 100 tons without a struggle, and can even force himself to a higher extent. He can also create telekinetic shields of various sizes and strength and he can fire mental force blasts that can shatter mountains. His telekinesis is also much stronger now than it was before he entered the vaccuum. Psywarden at first seemed to find that using his telekinesis in forceful ways was easier than in delicate ways, mostly due to the trauma he'd suffered as a child. However, over time he developed further control over fine matter. (For example, turning invisible by vibrating his own molecules, keeping an explosion contained, and creating a telekinetic bubble inside of a brain, & exploding said bubble)

Telekinetic Katana : Psywarden can manifest a telekinetic katana blade composed of raw psi-energy, which at its lowest intensity, functions to disrupt neural pathways and sever the bonds between molecules and at its highest level, his katana can slice an armored opponent and cut through the armor, but leave the attacker physically unharmed. He can also use his sword to shatter telepathic power-inhibitors imposed on others. Psywarden's telekinetic manifestations produce visible radiance in the physical world. Thus, he can use his psychic katana as a makeshift light source in areas of darkness. His telekinetic katana is strong enough to harm other beings more powerful than himself.

Tactile Telekinesis: Uses his telekinesis to enhance his speed, strength, agility and other fighting skills into super-human levels.

Telepathy: He possesses mental powers to affect and manipulate the minds of other sentient beings. Psywarden can read minds and communicate mentally with others over long distances.

Telepathic Tracking: Enhanced psionic senses enable him to detect and track other sentient beings by their unique psionic emanations (thought patterns contained in the psionic portion of the spectrum) especially if they pose a threat to his well-being in his immediate vicinity.

Psychic Shadow: He is able to mask his presence from others. His abilities can go undetected and are very difficult to track, even by very powerful telepaths. He can extend these defenses to others around him as well.

Psychic Knife: Described as "the focused totality of his psychic powers," by intensely channeling and focusing his psionic powers to his hands to create “psychic blades”, razor-sharp edges of pure mental energy which are said to be the ultimate physical manifestation of his powers which he plunges into the minds of his targets directly. He often uses them to disrupt the neurons of his foes by driving the glowing "blade" of mental energy into their skulls. It is able to kill.

Mind Control: Capable of controlling the minds of others.

Telepathic Illusions: He has the ability to create illusions to make himself seem to be invisible, look like someone else, or make others experience events that are not truly happening.

Telepathic Scanning: He can scan large areas of land with his mind. He can also scan the psyches of the inhabitants of a city to learn of their condition.

Mental Paralysis: Ability to induce temporary mental or physical paralysis

Amnesia: Can erase any awareness of particular memories or cause total amnesia.

Psycho Blasts: Can project psionic force bolts which have no physical effects, but which can affect a victim's mind so as to cause the victim pain, unconsciousness, or even death.

Astral Projection: Can project his astral form from his body onto astral planes or the physical planes. In the astral plane, he can mentally create psionic objects and manipulate the aspects of his environment.

Shadow Teleportation: Psywarden uses shadows as teleportation gates. Although this form of teleportation is not as controlled or precise as variations of teleportation used by others, it can cover huge distances.

Precognition: Psywarden occasionally has precognitive dreams.

Psionic Immunity: Psywarden has an immunity to certain psionic attacks such as; mind reading, mental attacks, and telepathy.]

Abilities

Master Martial Artist: Psywarden has been classified as a master martial artist. He is skilled in various Ninjutsu techniques such as Taijutsu and Ninja Kenpo. Psywarden is also very well versed in the use of all Ninja weapons, stealth methods, silent movement, infiltration, concealment, escape & evasion, covert methods, Ninja espionage, and Ninja acrobatics.

Master Telepathic Combatant: As a telepath, Psywarden takes advantage of his powers in a fight by reading his opponents' movements seconds before they make them, giving him the opportunity to counter-attack faster. He also creates telepathic illusions to distract his enemies while fighting them and as a ninja, he uses his psychic knife to incapacitate his opponents without killing them, though he has less inhibitions about doing so and will if necessary.

Advanced Telekinetic Combatant: As a telekinetic, he often uses his powers to augment his strength and speed, which made his fighting skills so strong that he was able to match and even outmatch other superhumanly strong opponents.

Strength level: Without the augmentation of powers, Ben possesses the normal human strength of a man his age, height, and build who engages in intensive regular exercise. He can increase his strength by bolstering it with his telekinetic ability.
