Pyra Technique is actually two characters rolled into one. The first, being a fire/fire blaster by the name of Pyra Technique, the second being a martial/super reflexes scrapper by the name of Rachel Sinclair. I have done my best to note this in both character's in-game bios for clarification.

Character

This page is a work on progress. The character will be described in far greater detail at a later date. For now I will provide the essentials until I can find the time to get more in-depth.

Background

PPD Logo

Rachel Sinclair is a Detective and E.O.D (Explosive Ordinance Disposal) Specialist for the Paragon Police Department. One could say it is in her blood to be in law enforcement. Generations of Sinclairs have walked the thin blue line for Paragon City.

After high school, Rachel attended Paragon University for a degree in Criminal Justice. She entered the Police Academy at the age of 22. After the Academy she spent two years as a street cop, during which she also received specialized training in explosive ordinance disposal. Due to determination and outstanding performance she rose to the rank of Detective rather quickly. Soon Rachel found her dance card quite full and became a work-o-holic. No longer a beat cop, she's spent the past several years cracking cases and placing her life on the line with each E.O.D. mission.

In addition to her current duties with the department, she is also a skilled martial artist. She is a DAT instructor for the department, teaching fellow officers the art of unarmed self defense to neutralize threats without the use of deadly force.

Her fellow officers are aware of her super powers, but do not know her hero identity. They do not even know she is a registered hero.

Rachel comes from a very large family. Her father passed away not long after she made detective, but her mother, six brothers, two sisters, and a slew of other relatives still remain spread through out Paragon and the United States. (names of relatives are not mentioned in case an interest is expressed in assuming the role of one of her relatives.)

A Hero Is Born

Rachel was not always a super-powered being. It is common knowledge that many of the Sinclairs are Metas. Those that do not display outward signs of any super powers still carry the dormant meta-gene. Some Sinclairs never develop super human abilities, while others do not develop powers until early adulthood. In Rachel's case, the meta gene had remained dormant into her late twenties, leading doctors to believe it would never manifest, leaving her to lead a perfectly "normal" life. However, in late 2006, an accident with a chemical explosive while on duty changed that.

Rachel's team responded to a bomb threat at a local elementary school. After successfully evacuating and securing the area, Rachel proceeded, with caution, to disarm the device. It appeared to be nothing more than a home made pipe bomb. However, this was not the case. Though she followed propper procedures and it appeared she'd successfully disarmed the threat, it still went off. Though she managed to take cover in time, the force of the blast, combined with the release of an unknown chemical substance caused her to sustain severe burns and a laundry list of other injuries. In addition, the chemical exposure awakened the dormant meta-gene. This was not discovered until she had recovered enough to begin months of grueling physical therapy.

At first, only minor incidents gave any indication that something had...changed. If her emotions flared, her skin would grow unbearably hot to the touch. Then the temperature in the room would rise to a stiffling degree. When she was moved to a private room at the hospital, several small fires broke out. First the television, then the air conditioning unit, and finally the clock radio. Hospital staff assumed the fires were due to faulty wiring. What they didn't realize was that the fires broke out only after Rachel had touched the items in an aggrivated state. When she melted the hand rails on her hospital bed with nothing more than the touch of her hands, she knew it was time to come to grips with what she'd been denying for weeks. Somehow the accident at the school had altered her.

She began conducting small....experiments. Before long, it was clear that she now had the ability to manipulate and even create fire. To what extend, she was not certain, and to this day continues to test the limits of her powers. In addition to the manifestation of her powers, she became increasingly stronger, faster, and more agile, enabling her to leap great distances at blinding speeds.

Though her powers were difficult to control at first, she has come a long way and met with a great deal of success. She is able to supress them to an extent, so that it is not quite so difficult for others to be around her. Emotions can still trigger the emmitance of intense amounts of heat. Anger, stress, and adrenaline go hand in hand with her job at the PPD, so it was imperative she learn to keep her powers in check. However, such things also come in very handy, and it is no big surprise that a suspect finds themself in the hot seat during an interrogation....quite literaly.

There was a great deal of speculation as to whether or not Rachel would be capable of returning to her position at the PPD. At first, it was feared she would be forced into early retirment. This was not an option as far as Rachel was concerned. She is very passionate about her work and refused to let these new developments prevent her from living her dream. Medical records of her new abilities made keeping them a secret impossible. Therefore, she willingly informed her chain of command and collegues. She was met with an astounding amount of support. After completing physical therapy and a leave of absence upon doctors orders, she returned to her duties with a clean bill of health. To this day, she still bears the scars of her ordeal, but most of them are concealed by clothing.

Personality

Rachel is a a highly commited individual whether it be to family, friends or her career. She is very close to her family, with the exception of a relative here and there that may have chosen the wrong side of the law. At times she may have a one-track-mind, particularly when working on a big case. She's been accused of being a work-o-holic on more than one occasion, and will readily agree that she is. She does make time to have a social life, and actually enjoys the local clubs. Its not uncommon to see her head to the "D" for a few drinks with her co-workers. At one time, it was accurate to say she had a "short fuse", however, when her powers emerged, she had to take steps to change that. Anger management classes and meditation are two very valuable tools she used to find success in the latter. She is also very willful and doesn't let herself be pushed around, although she is able to admit when she is wrong about something.

As far as commited relationships go, Rachel has avoided them for the past two years. For six years she dated a man named Caleb Schultz. She made detective just prior to the accident that brought about her powers. Caleb was very competitive and became jealous that she made detective and he didn't. When the relationship became too strained, Rachel broke things off. In an effort to help herself forget, she threw herself into work and hasn't dated since. She has other reasons for being shy of commitment now, especially after her accident. She doesn't want to burden a significant other with the possibility that one day, they may have a fellow officer from the PPD knocking on their door to deliver news of her death. She is also very particular about the type of person she may or may not get involved with. Arrogance, inflated egos and self absorbtion are major turn offs. She does hope that one day she will meet Mr. Right, but isn't actively looking for him at this time. She believes love will find her when the time is right.

Costumes

Physical Description

As Pyra, very little of her features are visible because she is pretty much covered from head to toe. The only thing that is obvious is that she's female.

As Rachel, she's 5'6, 115 pounds with blue eyes and blond hair. Her skin is deeply bronzed but not due to tanning. Her family is Italian, Spanish, and German, so the deeper complexion is really no surprise. The only thing about her that makes her stand out from her dark eyed and dark haired siblings is that her eyes are blue and her hair is a pale, almost white-blonde.

Her ears are slightly pointed, but several of her siblings suffer the same birth defect. Doctors have informed them that since all Sinclairs carry the meta-gene, they are likely to experience birth defects ranging from minor to severe. They attribute her extremely pale hair to her German heritage.

Other features that are not always visible include: A few faint burn scars on her back, accquired from the accident that led to her super powers. She has a six inch scar on her lower right side from a knife wound she received while undercover for the PPD. Another souvenier received on an under cover mission is a jagged scar on her left collar bone, received when a vampire went for her throat. He was a fairly new vampire, clumsy, and hand't fully grown into his powers, so she was able to fight him off enough that he missed his goal. The wound was extremely painful, for it wasn't the typical two-holded vampire bite, it was more of a ripping of flesh, and was deep enough for his fangs to hit bone. She also has a faint scar about an inch in length along her hairline, received during training when her ill-fitted kevlar helmet fell off. Since then, much of her PPD equipment has been custom made to avoid such mishaps in the future.

Pyra Technique

Costume 1: E.O.D. / S.W.A.T Uniform. Consists of a combination of standard issue police gear and specially developed pieces that aid in helping to prevent her powers from interfereing with other explosive or highly flammible materials. Because of her ears, her helmet is custom made, as standard issued helmets are ill-fitting and uncomfortable. She will often wear this ensamble when on missions with others from the PPD or her personal life, as wearing her hero costume would reveal her hero identity to them.

Costume 2

Costume 2: Hero disguise. In this costume she is not recognizable as Rachel Sinclair. She wears this ensamble off duty when fighting crime with random people she does not know.

Costume 3

Costume 3: Casual suit worn for work. Also serves as civilain attire. When on or off duty, she always has a concealed shoulder holster with her glock on her left side. On duty she wears a badge clip on her belt, kept off to the side so that she has to open her jacket slightly to reveal it when neccessary. Off duty, she removes the badge clip and keeps it in an inner-jacket pocket. Though flat-soled shoes would be more sensible, she prefers heels because like many women, she loves shoes. Heels help remind her that she's still allowed to be girly despite working in a mostly male field.

Costume 4: "under cover" look. Worn while working under cover. Attire can vary depending on the mission. When in this costume, she goes by the name "Tory" because her actual name is too well-known through out the city and would blow her cover instantly. She will dye her hair or wear wigs under cover because it makes her look like an entirely different person. That, and its kinda fun.

PPD Logo

Costume 5: Undecided. Will probably be something a bit more girly than her suit for casual wear.

Rachel Sinclair

Costume 1

Costume 1: Off duty street clothes. Rachel does have 2006 Suzuki Katana motorcycle, however she doesn't get to ride it very often. Its currenly parked in storage because the neighborhood she lives in isn't exactly the nicest part of town.

Costume 2

Costume 2: DAT instructor attire. Also worn on special missions.

Equipment

Rachel is almost always armed with a Glock 21C concealed in a shoulder holster on the left side. It is equipped with a compensator to reduce recoil, as well as a rail to allow for the use of a laser dot or light. Her hero disguise does not involve the use of a side arm, therefore when wearing it, she goes without the Glock.

Other Equipment: Standard issue police gear to include but not limited to: duty belt with holster, standard issue 9mm pistol, hand-held radio clip with shoulder mic, ear piece that allows for silent radio communication, hand cuffs, OC spray (commonly known as pepper spray), asp (retractable baton), small pouch containing surgical gloves, key ring and small flashlight holster,

S.W.A.T and E.O.D. gear include but are not limited to: battering ram, repelling equipment, flash-bang grenades, tear gas grenades, smoke grenades, riot shield, riot baton, riot pistol and rifle with rubber bullets.

Rachel's apartment is in the loft above this club. She needed to find a place to stay fast after she was transfered from the Skyway City Precinct to King's Row. The apartment is small, sparsely furnished, but clean, so it will do until she can find other accomadations.

- She's been shot on duty three times. Only one occasion resulted in injury to her right hip. The others were prevented by a bullet proof vest.

- Her father died of natural causes shortly after Rachel made detective, before her accident. He was already retired from the PPD. They had a very good relationship.

- She has a wolf-hybrid dog named "Wolf". (Yeah, creative huh? :P ) She also has a cat named Pain (as in pain in the ass) and several gold fish that she refrains from naming because they have such short life spans. (at least in her case).
