Quinton Vance/Quinton Vance OOC
From Unofficial Handbook of the Virtue Universe
Basic Overview
Quinton Vance is a character that originated on paper, long before I even considered playing MMOs. I brought him to this game because I saw that the environment was suitable for the character. I must admit though, because this character comes from a place on text that's much darker, and didn't want to lighten or alter his persona in any way, his interactions with some people are a tad...odd. But, the bright side of that whole ordeal is that his interactions with many characters in City of Heroes have been comic gold.
FAQ
Q. What inspired this character?
- This character is heavily inspired by Nick Fury: Agent of S.H.I.E.L.D., The Punisher, James Bond and Solid Snake. I wanted to create a character that was as believable as a real person as they would be comic book character. However, I didn't want something you would find in a saturday morning cartoon.
- Yes.In a lot of ways, Vance is my avatar character. Not in the way of "Me channeling Vance", but instead "Vance channels me." His thoughts are my thoughts. His words, my words. His reactions, my reactions.
Q. How do you view in game relationships?
- It depends on the kind of relationship, really. I try to avoid any kind of intimate relationships with other characters for several reasons. One being that people on the internet are kind of creepy. That and the character really isn't designed for intimacy. He's an angry, bitter man who's done so much but has received so little in the way of recognition for it. He's the plausible deniability warrior.
Q. Who would play this character in a live action film?
- Dwayne "The Rock" Johnson, no doubt. He has the physique and appearance and is capable of delivering the caustic sarcasm Vance does. He also has a very commanding presence, but is capable of being tender when need be.
Q. What is the status of this character?
- Retired from CoH. I really don't take him out missioning anymore because let's face it, AR/DEV sucks as a powerset. Fun, but it fuckin' sucks. Also, ICly, he has a daughter. It wouldn't make sense for a single dad to constantly put his life in danger when he's got a child to go home to every day. His daughter is the focus of his further development as a character. However, I will still bring him out to lead RWZ Raids. There are still some people who refer to the character as "Commander Vance". But to Quianna, he's just dad. I chose this route because, like I said, I wanted a believable character. He's an ordinary joe with extraordinary training, living in a world full of aliens and monsters. But, he still has to deal with everyday issues that come with being human and being a parent. You know, things like taking care of his sick kid or taking her to and from school and ballet and things of that nature.
Q. What do you see in the future for this character?
- Who knows? You might see him in Champions Online when it drops...
