Birth of a future hero
On August 14th, 1974, Donald and Stephanie Banks gave birth to their first son, Dominic. The married couple and their new born son lived happily in Galaxy City. Growing up, Dominic was a carefree child. He was always laughing and playing, seeming to always be in a good mood. However, even though he was greatly loved by his parents, his father grew distant as he seemed to be too caught up in current events. After the nuclear strike on the Freedom Phalanx hero known as Statesman in 1976, Donald wanted to move his family out of Paragon for fear that it would be the first city the soviets would attack. After some talking with his wife, who calmed him, they decided to remain in Paragon. And soon enough, the international heroes stopped a nuclear war.
The teenage years
As Dominic got older, he seemed to be obsessed with heroes. He idolized each and every one of them. During his trips to school and back home, he would marvel at the sights of the flying, running, and jumping heroes. They all inspired him and he wish to be one when he got older, however he would always shatter his own dreams of being a hero as he realized he had no powers. Instead, Dominic focused on his academics, getting himself placed into advanced and gifted classes in school. But he secretly still dreamed of being a hero.
Dominic's first encounter with a hero wasn't what he hoped it would be. During his teenage years, many drugs were introduced and heroes fought to keep them off the streets. At the age of 16, Dominic and some friends went to see a movie. One of the friends asked him to hold his sweater for him as he went into a store, while the rest stood out front and were horseplaying. The crowd caught the attention of a nearby hero who, due to his boredom, wanted to see what they were up to and inspect them. Upon doing such, the hero found in the sweater Dom was holding a vial of superadine. When confronted, rather than telling the hero it was his friend's, he said it was his. The hero then grabbed Dom, flew high up, and held him in one hand, giving him a lecture on why he shouldn't use drugs. Dominic, who was scared out of his mind, simply followed all of the hero's words. Once he was brought down to the ground and the hero left, taking the vial, he threw the sweater at his friend, gave him a yelling, and headed home. Something he would never forget.
Dom's new family
Dominic graduated high school in 1992, and was accepted into Paragon University. During his freshman year, his parents gave birth to his baby brother and also wanted to move to Chicago as his father was recently promoted and it required relocating. They wanted Dom to stay in Paragon and finish his schooling. They would continue to pay the maintainance fees on their current condo so he could have a place to live, until he graduated. After a tearful farewell, his parents and brother left. However, not long after, Dom would meet three people at the university that would forever change his life. His new friends quickly became like family to him and they did everything together. They were Diego Gomez, Victor Von Gutten, and Tia Simone. Dominic's relationship with Tia grew intimate while it grew brotherly with Diego and Victor. The four were always together except when they were in class. The three even moved into Dom's condo and all four would write to Dom's parents, sending pictures, and videos.
Tia was a mutant but the others were not aware and she did not wish to tell them. She has the ability to completely mimic the DNA of any living organism she contacts with her hands. Victor was also a mutant and the group knew it. He could not hide his massive size or strength. Although big and powerful, Victor was tender and soft-hearted, the big teddy bear of the group. Diego was an ordinary guy like Dominic, no powers whatsoever. Though his attitude was different than the rest of the group. He was considered the "bad boy" and always seemed to cause or get into trouble. They still loved him though and always stuck with him.
Diego would get expelled from Paragon University but always had a home with Dominic. He constantly looked for work but could not find a job so he resulted in lending his body to be tested on by a growing pharmaceutical company. Although the group tried hard to convince him not to, he did it anyways and constantly gave Dominic "rent money" for allowing him to stay. Dom always declined it but even more so, he worried for his friend as his appearance as well as his attitude began to change.
The Accident
On March 19th, 1994, Dominic and Tia were shopping in Steel Canyon. While walking down the street the sound of a vehicle veering could be heard. About three blocks away, a truck could be seen losing control and it toppled over. An explosion then followed and whatever the truck was containing burst into the air. Everyone quickly jumped into stores and buildings, hiding and hoping to avoid any contact, however Dominic noticed a child still out in the open. He left Tia inside a nearby store and ran towards the child. As he did another truck, this time closer, exploded and the substance headed towards Dominic and the child. Knowing that getting to safety would be difficult, Dominic picked up the child, ran towards a nearby store, and with all his might threw him towards a nearby person standing nearby who caught the child. However, Dominic himself could not get to safety and the substance covered him.
The green substance began to burn and seep into Dominic's body. Onlookers watched in fear as Dominic yelled and screamed in agony, falling to the ground. Tia tried to run out to him but others held her back, to prevent her from coming into contact with the substance. As Dominic rolled on the ground yelling in pain, the substance all around the area moved towards him, attached itself to him, and went inside him. Tia cried out for him, more yelled for help for him, others dialed 911, yet it seemed as if there was nothing anyone could do to help him. This lasted for ten minutes until Dominic succumbed to the pain and feel unconscious. By this time, all of the substance had seemed to enter his body as there was no trace of it anywhere. Tia finally was able to run out to him, as did many others. For a brief moment, Dominic opened his eyes, looked to the crowd, and asked, "Is the kid safe?" before falling back unconscious.
Dominic awoke in the hospital later to his friends who were sleeping in his hospital room. He had been unconscious for three days. He remembered everything that had happened, but he felt better than ever. As he sat up and looked at his friends, he said loudly, "You damn freeloaders..." in which they all awoke, looked at him, smiled, and teared up. They all ran to hug him, with Victor hugging and nearly suffocating the three. Their crying and joy could be heard outside, alerting a nearby nurse who entered and told them she'll get a doctor.
