Personality
Constant dealing with powers and knowledge that man was not meant to know has warped the way Rain Raven's mind works in a way that may not be called entirely sane, combined with a mostly military and utilitarian upbringing make it difficult for her to fit in with most social gatherings. Sometimes she can be very outgoing and social, other times she seems distant and shy. Rain Raven tries her best to look as natural as she can when dealing with new social environments but is still very unsure how to react at times, especially when those close to her are in emotional distress.
Often seen either sipping at a cup of tea which she seems to be able to summon from gods know where, as well as playing with what seems to be an ancient "lucky" coin from time to time. Rain Raven often will "zone out" as if in deep thought or possibly communing with something that can neither be seen or heard by normal means.
Background
Early Years in the U.S.S.R.
Raya Rasnova grew up in Inta, a town in the Komi Republic, Russia. Born in 1967, the town was the site of a soviet corrective labor camp, as well as the CHAYKA terrestrial radio navigation system and airport. Raised around the labor camp and military she joined up to become a sniper at an early age and later trained as a Spetsnaz.
Being recruited by a secret sub-agency of the KGB to investigate the supernatural shortly after completing her Spetsnaz training, changed Raya's life forever. Little is known of what exactly she did for this agency or what type of supernatural investigations the agency took part in, but there have been speculations of an entity known as Baba Yaga being involved.
Post Soviet Russia
Whatever Raya's history may have been during her time with "The Agency", with the fall of Soviet Russia in 1991, Raya immigrated to America and changed her name to Rain Raven. At first the American government kept a close eye on her and her activities suspecting that she was a spy, and Russia itself viewed her as a national security risk due to her former security clearance and knowledge of national secrets.
Having proven her patriotism as a true American saving thousands of innocent lives and losing one of her eyes during the Rikti Invasion, answering Statesman's call in Paragon City and registering her talents as a super, revealed Rain Raven as a powerful mage. Russian agents have increased their hunt for "Raya" to bring her back to the Motherland for "questioning", but knowing full well what her former comrades have in store for her, she has remained reclusive and been able to dispose of any agent who actually succeed to tracking her down, proving each time just how much she has learned from her study of the occult.
Paragon City
Recently Rain Raven has been recruited by a Super Group known as The Echelon, where she has continued her studies on magick theory and the occult with the help of masters and powers within the Super Group and out. Still much of an outsider, and often slipping into speaking her mother tongue from time to time. Rain Raven has begun to understand what friendship really means, perhaps for the first time in her entire life. Though her uses of magic around her new peers has been mostly basic compared to some of the other practitioners of magick within the ranks of The Echelon, Rain has shown superior understanding of spells and powers that normally would be far beyond the capabilities that she has shown thus far. However she has also hinted that her past experiences with magick itself in her days working for Soviet Russia where entirely different from the types of abilities and powers that she now uses in her efforts to fight crime and evil in and around her new home, Paragon City and beyond.
