Summary
Rayne is the daughter of Valerion von Vladssen of Romania, a decendant of Lord Vlad Droknar, a prominent political leader of the 12th century, who was burned alive by his own countrymen when a foreign tyrrant promised vast riches to the nation if he was put in power. Betrayed, Droknar's rage prevented him from entering the afterlife, and he instead became the progenitor of the Victus Mortus: the living dead. Feeding off the life of those who had stolen his, men called him the Vampyre. Though not wholly dominated by Droknar's rage, his offspring were bound to prolong their eternal existance in the same fashion, by consuming the life-blood of others. Some did follow his path of chaos and destruction, but Rayne was one of the vampyres that learned the true deceitful power and corruption that began her ancestors tyranny, and vowed to use her strengths to combat evil instead of feeding it. However, her appearance, mannerisms, and actions still often portray a dark and sinister nature, and is often shunned.
Origin
In the dark ages of the 12th century lived Lord Vladius Droknar of Romania. He was an important leader in the country, a just and fair man. But times were hard, resources thin, and many of the people, looking for someone to blame, set their hatred upon him. So, when a foreign tyrrant promised vast riches to the people if they put him into power, the people revolted. Lord Droknar was cast down, and burnt alive by his own people. Betrayed, his rage prevented him from entering the afterlife. Spirits of hate offered him the power to avenge the wrongs done to him, and thus, be became the progenitor of the Victus Mortus; the living dead. Feeding off the life of those who had stolen his, men called him Vampyre. Tales of the fear and terror he unleashed spread. The curse that consumed him spread to those he bit, providing they didn't die from the attack. He sired several children with women he had turned, who also were born under the constrains of his curse. He created a small army of immortals, stirring in them the same hatred that dwelt within himself. The Knights of the Holy Order fought against this evil. They learned that the hatred stemmed from the heart and mind, and only a killing blow to them would kill the vampyres.
In time, the number of the vampyres dwindled, though many survived by going into exile, and moving to other parts of the world, though the direct line stayed in their homeland, refusing to leave what was rightfully theirs. One decendand, Valerion von Vladssen, though still bound by the need to feed off blood to prolong his life did not share the same hatred towards humans as most of his kin. He left the clan, and eventually migrated into a human society. He fell in love with a human woman, whom he married. He carefully hid his shrouded past, and hoped that a human mother would break the curse that had plagued his ancestors. Unfortunately, the child that she carried was actually feeding off of her, slowly killing her. She just thought she was getting tired, feeling weaker as the days went on. She finally did bare a daughter, but the strain was too much, and she died. As the child opened her eyes, Valerion's heart fell... her blood red eyes said that she too was victim to the curse of their line. He then took her away, and lived in exile. The daughter, whom he named Rayne, grew strong. He trained her in combat, and she learned to use a pair of fighting knives with pristine precision. The human genes made her less susceptible to the weaknesses of others of her kin, such as being harmed by sunlight, or going into a blood frenzy if going too long without feeding. Though these and others still did affect her, it wasn't as strongly. After training her with all the knowledge he could, he gave Rayne the last gift he was able. He had lived longer than he desired, and could no longer see any good in his world other than her. He gave her his blood to drink, giving her the knowledge and power of her line, as well as the immortality that a half-breed did not possess. Then, he gave his daughter a kiss on the forehead, and plunged a dagger into his heart. Rayne mourned the loss of her father, but the strength and knowledge he had passed on to her she was determined to use for good. Thus begins her story...
