Early Years
Kazuo Matsuoka is known for making a splash in the Paragon's business world. As the President and CEO of the company Kotobuki Technology, or "KotoTec," as it is frequently shortened to, he has established himself as an innovator and financial genius. Kazuo's colleagues have often commented on his highly conservative, no-nonsense nature. He was and is a man beholden to traditions, often to the detriment of some of his more forward-thinking partners.
Kazuo was a man who seldom smiled. However, if there is one thing he enjoyed, it was his children. When his daughter, Kimiko, was born in the year 2000, he vowed to give her a perfect upbringing. There would be little room for error. Kimiko was bought all the best clothes, fed the best foods and surrounded by the best caretakers. Under her father's watchful guidance, she was also endowed with all of the qualities he would desire in a daughter. In school, she was hardworking. With her peers, she was compassionate. As a child, she never made a fuss and held respect to the highest standard. This earned Kazuo and his wife, Hiroko, the envy of other parents. Their daughter was both precious and precocious.
At the age of fourteen, Kimiko was admitted into Founder's Falls Academy, a popular high school for privileged children in Founder's Falls. Businessmen, politicians and celebrities -- all of them have vied to have their children receive the institute's prestigious education. In spite of its prestige, the school's elitism is well-known. The students were and are in a constant state of trying to one-up each other in shallow bids to feel superior.
Kimiko, as the daughter of KotoTec's CEO, already had some targets on her back by the other students. However, her compassion and overall social nature allowed her to wiggle her way into her classmate's higher eichelons. She was at the top of her social pyramid, and for all intents and purposes, a "popular girl." In spite of her sheltered upbringing, Kimiko's compassion made her relatively down-to-earth compared to her peers, however. The vapidness of the high school, initially, had relatively little effect on her.
An Unlikely Friend
Prior to heading home from school, Kimiko would often stop by Williams Square, a prominent gathering spot in Founder's Falls, to rest. She'd enjoy a small snack packed by one of her caretakers and take in the crowds around Williams Fountain. Most of them were her fellow well-off peers, as well as other members of her social class. One girl, however, stuck out to her: a Hispanic girl, roughly the same age as Kimiko, with twin braids in her hair and mildly stained clothes. One look at her made it clear that she wasn't from Kimiko's side of Founder's Falls, or perhaps even from the part of town at all. While the other kids each ate their weight in after-school snacks, she had nothing. Kimiko, ever prone to compassion, shared her snack with the girl, and learned her name: Rosaria Gonzalez.
