Currently, Resiak is a freelance Hero that chooses not to identify with any Super Group.
Personality
Resiaks personality seems strange, considering his upbringing and past. Despite his violent history and shady life of drug processing and gang involvement, he does his best to attempt to reclaim the kind of life he wanted. Being a Hero is a choice for him, and it's the only thing he knows can try to put himself back as a good person. During peaceful times, and though not from anywhere near the south, he speaks with a genuine southern accent that is accentuated by a consistent smile. Whenever he is involved in a fight, he remains determined to defeat whatever obstacle he faces, and treats even the most serious of circumstances as just a game with a high stake. When teamed with friends or strangers, he never hesitates to put himself in the line of fire before someone else. He would rather take a million punches that have a friend attacked. Resiak befriends most easily, and tried to keep their opinion of him high.
Powers
Resiak gains many of his powers through a strange genetic mutation, which is a product of having a bloodline connecting him to Outcasts, and a near fatal injection of Dyne by a Troll. Having genes that allow him to control fire come from his connections to the Outcasts, while his heightened amount of resilience to damage and pain come from the Dyne, giving him the qualities of a battle hardened Troll. His flame based powers stem from his fight with Trolls and the genetic mutation that occurred when he was overdosed on Dyne. This gave his body absolute resistance to any form of extreme heat, and gave him physical and mental awareness of nearby latent kinetic energy. With this mental and physical power, he can manifest flames from any part of his body at will, or form weapons made of pure energy at the speed of a thought.
Abilities
His fighting prowess comes from his upbringing, where he was forced to fight to prove himself to his cousins and gang. This has turned into more of a blessing than a curse, as this gives him an even tougher body, and skills to overtake most foes with punches and kicks. He'll also play dirty, if he has to.
His power to teleport sprouts from his awareness of nearby energy. Resiak can rework his molecular structure to that of heat particles and gain access to an unlimited airspace, as long as he does not lose parts of himself. For this reason, he only travels short distances with his teleportation.
His enhanced speed is granted by focusing much of his power to the soles of his feet, giving him less friction on contact to the ground, and granting increased mobility at the loss of accuracy while moving.
Character History
Michael Kaisers early life has been all but forgotten. Having no parents or siblings, his distant cousins in The Hollows brought him to live with them. Michael later discovered his cousins were deeply involved with gang activity, being leading members of The Outcasts and making second rate versions of Dyne and Superadine for sales to Trolls.
Years after his involuntary relation with the Outcasts, he had been placed at a spot of recognition being the one to to oversee the production of Dyne and Superadine. Through the course of his 'work' at no point in time did he ever like or willingly accept his position, and any time he would attempt to stand for himself, his Outcast cousins would beat him mercilessly until he agreed to continue.
One night, before a routine sale, Michaels cousin approached him happily about the amount of money they were about to make. Though Trolls and Outcasts do not get along, there was a mutual truce whenever a deal was being made. That night, when $1,000,000 worth of Dyne was being traded in a tense transaction, one of the Outcasts sneezed and startled a Troll, causing an uproar and full fledged brawl between both gangs.
After the remaining Outcasts either fled, or were killed or knocked out, Michael was pinned and injected with a fatal dose of Dyne, causing terrible muscle spasms. Another Troll grabbed a nearby canister of gasoline and doused Michael in the fluid. Michael only had time enough to wipe his face clean of gas before he was set on fire and left to burn. All of this caused Michael to black out in a plume of smoke and flames.
Immediately following the fiery assault of Resiak, the Trolls made themselves scarce from the Outcasts hideout, taking the million dollar pot of Superadine with them. All of the remaining Outcasts (Including Resiaks cousins) fled to different areas among The Hollows. Resiak was left for dead in the 'factory' for the police to find and handle, but amidst the smoldering debris near him, something was happening.
Roughly thirty minutes passed before Resiak came to. He felt no pain in most of his body, though he remembered all too vividly the experience. Resiak did however, feel a tremendous pain on his face, and he reached to hold the wound he could not see. He stumbled around the area looking for a reflective surface, seeming to not notice that the rest of his body was left without a scratch. He found a broken window shard and shifted it to see what his problem was, and was left staring at the only wound he suffered from the whole ordeal.
His face had been charred to the bone. When Resiak was doused in Gasoline, he wiped his face so he could breathe, removing most of the gas from that area. When he ignited, his face was given more direct exposure to flames, and produced less resistance, causing burns that melted his face down to the bone.
Split Personality
During the highlight of his career as a Hero among the streets of Paragon City, Resiak was faced with another life altering chain of events. During a battle against several Hellions in a joint pact with a few Circle of Thorns members, a demonic entity was summoned to kill Resiak. With no victory in sight, Resiak was pinned beneath a behemoth monster named Deyrkas, and nearly crushed to death.
Due to a small arcane miscalculation between the Hellions and Thorn members brought not only Resiaks otherworldly adversary, but another entity from Hell that held a grudge against Deyrkas as well. Coming to Resiaks aid at the very last possible moment, a winged creature almost identical to Resiak knocked Deyrkas away from the wounded Hero. Enter "Anrach".
At first assessment of the situation, Anrach understood that he was alone no match for Deyrkas, nor was Resiak after having the large demon nearly crush him to death. Noting the situation, Anrach quickly offered to 'Possess' Resiak in order to give Resiak his demonic powers, as well as gain the earthly powers of a human. As the two combined, a nearby Circle of Thorns master bound Anrachs soul into Resiaks body, melting the two minds to exist inside Resiaks body.
Power Discovery
The traumatic experience to Resiaks body brought forward a recessive gene in his blood. Holding some relation to the Outcasts, he had some elemental background that had never surfaced before. As soon as he was introduced to the fire, his body began to absorb what fire it could, making the essence of the flames a part of his body, down to the blood that runs through his veins. With enough concentration, Resiak discovered he can force fire out of the pores on his skin. His lungs are a sort of 'internal combustion engine', igniting with every breath and sending more flames through his body.
- As a result of the binding of Anrachs soul to Resiaks body, Resiak has the ability to switch between the appearance of a standard superhero, or let Anrachs physical form manifest over his body, causing him to sprout wings and take on many features of a creature from another realm. His attitude also shifts from his normally cheery, kind, and upbeat attitude to a dark, brooding, and vicious mindset. Anrach may sometimes even speak through Resiak, even without manifesting himself. Usually, one can tell who is speaking through the countenance or tone of voice being spoken.
Equipment
The mask Resiak wears is essential to his work as a Hero. After he emerged from his plant, he was taken into custody and given to Chiron Hospital for care. Once there, he explained in broken speech he was okay, but was dying from the pain of his seared face. The wonderful doctors at Chiron crafted him a face mask with a powder coat on the inside of the strongest painkiller. As long as the mask is worn, he feels no pain, but if the mask is knocked off in battle, he becomes all but paralyzed in pain.
His clothes were a gift from the Paragon City Hero Registry. They had dealt with heroes who dealt with fire based powers before, and knew that their clothes didn't last long. They allowed Resiak to customize his own costume which allowed his skin to breathe and his fire to escape, while keeping him decent in public. It can not be burned under any temperatures, and doesn't shrink in the wash.
Trivia
- Though he is able to teleport, Resiak tries his best to use the ability as little as possible. The shift of his particles and body from one area to the next have been known to make him sick.
- Any mission that involves saving or protecting a member of an enemy faction makes Res uncomfortable. He will do his part in the mission, but frowns upon accepting the tasks or will remain as quiet as possible throughout the mission.
