Background
What you see before you is indeed a Rikti Monkey, albeit an advanced breed. He is non-violent unless provoked or ordered to attack, and is quite friendly despite being Rikti property. His previous handler was a Rikti Chief Mentalist; oddly a fan of "The Jungle Book". Most Rikti monkies are considered expendible therefore are not kept as pets. However, Tavi's breed is experimental, more intelligent, and possesses inherant kinetic and psychic abilities that can be honed with proper training. They are outfitted with various pieces of Rikti armor and are given advanced training in battle in the hope that they will prove more effective than lesser breeds of rikti monkey.
This particular rikti monkey's handler was killed in the War Zone. In the after-battle confusion, Tavi was left behind. He was taken prisoner, loaded aboard a convoy with other Rikti Monkies, and taken to the Vanguard base for study. Confusion with so many monkies in the lab led to a few of them getting loose; Tavi being one of them. Desperate to escape, he jumped through a colorful portal and found himself in Atlas Park.
Personality
Tavi is a very friendly Rikti Monkey. His handler was not unkind despite putting him through rigorous, sometimes brutal training. It is possible that because of the intensity of his training, his handler took pity on him and treated him like a pet. He is very fond of cartoons, Doctor Who, peanut butter and jelly, G-I Joe action figures, and stuffed animals. He becomes easily distracted by anything shiney or brightly colored. Currently his mental capacity is that of a child around the age of nine. However, due to being an intellectually advanced breed, his mentality will mature very quickly the more time he spends around people.
Tavi understands English well enough to follow most instructions, however does not grasp the language entirely. Therefore he does not comprehend everything that is said to him and often returns comments with a confused expression. He speaks very little as well. At this time he rarely uses full sentences and often uses grunts or hand motions to communicate. Tavi's breed of rikti monkey is highly intelligent and capeable of being taught to speak, comprehend, and function like a normal person.
OOC Facts
- Tavi wears a chain collar. His former handler used to keep him on a leash most of the time unless he was in his kennle or set loose in battle.
- He is wary of humans and heroes because he's accustomed to being ordered to fight them by his former handler. But once he realizes a person poses no danger or has taken no aggressive action, he is openly friendly, much like a puppy.

Infiltrating Atlas Park
A small, furry figure in Rikti armor rolls through the Vanguard base portal in Atlas Park. He lays there for a moment, curled into a ball with his eyes tightly closed; as though waiting for something painful to occur. When no blows come or outraged cries are heard, he slowly opens his eyes to peer at his surroundings.
The furry figure doesn't know it, but normally there are two Vanguard Operatives standing guard at the base of the portal. Presently they are absent. Perhaps they are on a coffee break. Our furry guest does not realize just how lucky he is at the moment.
Very cautiously, he sits up, then pushes himself to his feet. His armored boots make a hollow, metal-on-metal "clang" with his first step. He stops short as the sound echoes off the vaulted ceiling. His beedy eyes dart to and fro as if trying to follow the sound as it bounces into oblivion.
A furtive glance about the room reveals the coast remains clear. He looks over his shoulder, heaving a sigh of relief when no figures in white lab coats come chasing after him. It appears he has escaped the War Zone unscathed. He catches movement from his peripheral vision to the right. Inherantly curious, he cannot resist the urge to creep over to the window. He must rise on his toes to see over the sill. The scene that greets him strikes terror through his tiny body and he shudders involuntarily.
Standing on opposite sides of an operating table are two scientists. On the steel slab between them lies the lifeless body of a Rikti Communications Officer. A deeper look into the room reveals two more operating tables, yet another occupied by a Rikti corpse. The furry figure has seen enough. He turns away from the grisly sight, desperately looking for an escape route. All he can see is the portal from which he came and a flight of stairs. There was no way he was going back through the portal. He knew what awaited him on the other side.
Silently he crept to the stairway and peered below. From his vantage point he could see at least two Vanguard Operatives; one standing guard before a pillar, the other writing furiously on a clip board. There were several doors, but he had no idea which was the exit.
Suddenly a brightly dressed human entered the building, clearly in a hurry. The furry figure ducked against the balcony wall to avoid being seen. The human dashed up the opposite stairway and disappeared through the portal. They hadn't even noticed our furry guest. His mind raced. Could he make it past the operatives to the exit without being captured? He really had no choice but to try.
With a determined set to his shoulders, he took a steadying breath and crept to the base of the stairs, staying crouched against the wall to avoid being detected. After a moments hesitation, he sprinted to the door and barrelled through. The shocked, outraged shouts of the two operatives followed him out the door. The furry figure bounced off the lone Vanguard Operative standing guard outside, but he was already darting around the hedges surrounding the Geneva Hotel before it dawned on the Operative that a Rikti Monkey had just infiltrated Atlas Park.
Tavi's First Adventure in Atlas Park
Uncertain if the Vanguard Operatives were still chasing after him, Tavi continued to zig-zag between the hedges by the Geneva Hotel until he reached the last one facing the street. Peering around the hedge, he could see cars passing, but that wasn't what caught his eye. A sprawling park surrounded by a gilded wrought iron fence had the little Rikti monkey clasping his armored paws together like an excited child on Christmas morning. Tavi had only seen such a beautiful sight on television and used to daydream about running around and rolling in the grass. Cautiously, he stepped out from behind his hiding place and was instantly jostled by several humans. They gave him startled expressions and a few of them even shrieked in alarm. They bolted in opposite directions, clearing the sidewalk in moments. Tavi had been just as frightened of them, as they were of him, for normally the sight of humans meant pain was coming his way. But none of the humans had attacked him, much to his relief.
After the distraction of the humans had passed, his attention was averted once more by the park. He dashed accross the street, narrowly avoiding being struck by a refridgerator truck. Breathing heavily, he made it to the safety of the park and stood there for several moments, gazing in awe at the expanse of lush greenery. The trees towered above him, swaying gently in the light breeze, and he could hear birds chirping. A squirrel darted past Tavi's feet, enticing him to chase it until it scrambled up a tree out of sight. His furry little shoulders slumped a bit in disappointment. The squirrel had reminded him of his favorite "Foamy Squirrel" stuffed animal. He had stumbled accross the Foamy Squirrel website one day and watched every video in the archive. At the time, he had not understood even a portion of what the funny cartoon squirrel was saying, but his silly voice, crazy antics and over the top gestures had made Tavi laugh. He felt a twinge of saddness at the memory of his favorite toy set on display in his kennle back home. Tavi's heart broke just a little at that moment. His toys were his only friends and now he would never see them again.
Tavi played in the park for about an hour, rolling in the well-manicured grass, kicking small stones, and chasing after birds. He came accross several people during this time. The first few reacted with fear and departed quickly. But the more he played, the more people saw him. Though it struck them as incredibly odd to see a Rikti monkey in the park without the presence of an invasion, they soon began to simply ignore him and go about their business. When he reached the opposite edge of the park from which he'd entered, he stopped short. Accross yet another street was a courtyard that had a giant statue of a man carrying the earth. Tavi almost fell over as he craned his neck to peer up at the statue. The platform beneath the statue was filled with humans, all of them dressed in brightly colored clothing.
Tavi was torn as to what to do. Thus far, none of the humans he'd come accross had taken any aggressive action against him. He desperately wanted to investigate and explore this bright, clean, exciting new place. It was so different from the War Zone and its devistation. Not to mention that despite his species, Tavi is an incredibly friendly creature. He craves friendship almost as much as he craves peanut butter and jelly - which is more often than not to say the least. Although he desires friendship and acceptance, he is also wary, knowing full well the reactions most humans have to the sight of him.
Rather than dash accross the street to immediately satisfy his curiosity, Tavi climbed the nearest tree and simply observed the courtyard and the people in it. Apparently this courtyard served as a place for social activities, for many of them were simply conversing, some acting silly, others, far too serious. It was a sight that intrigued Tavi, but it also made him feel a sense of tripidation. Then again, that awful feeling in his stomach could also be hunger, for Tavi had not eaten since the previous night. His tummy then gurgled to verify that indeed, it was not fear he felt. Perhaps one of the humans would take pity on him and give him something to eat!
Being driven mostly by base instincts unless given specific instructions, Tavi decided to throw caution to the wind and approach the humans in the courtyard. He climbed down from his tree and dashed accross the street, this time avoiding all vehicles with success. As he reached the top of the stairs, he noted pools of shimmering water at the base of the platform. Tavi loves the water, and were he not so hungry, would have taken a moment or two to splash and play in the pools. But he had food on the brain, so decided he would play in the water later.
When he reached the platform, the humans began to form a long line at one end. He had no idea what they were doing, but thought perhaps it was a normal human custom, therefore he joined them in line. No one seemed to pay much attention to the Rikti monkey as he stood silently at the end of the line. After several moments, it appeared that three of the humans not in line were approaching the others, assessing their attire. He overheard someone mention a costume contest and that prizes were being given by the three judges. Tavi did not know what a costume contest was, but decided that prizes could very well mean food! He remained in line, but was not one of the chosen winners, nor did he see any signs of food. He felt a deep sense of disappointment as he kicked at the ground with the toe of one boot.
Suddenly, a barely dressed man with skin the color of chocolate approached him and shouted "Rodent!" Tavi cowered in fear for a moment, expecting to be struck. When he was not, he peered up at the man and was instantly overcome by excitement. Tavi thought he recognized him from a cartoon he had seen. With a great deal of enthusiasm, he pointed at the man and cried, "I pity the fool!". The man looked at Tavi with amusement and even laughed. Momentarily forgetting his fear, Tavi snatched a ratty note book and broken pencil from his pocket and held it out to the man, his expression hopeful. The man laughed again and accepted the items, scrawling an autograph before returning them. Tavi clutched the worn notepad reverently as he peered at the writing. He could not read it, as these were words he had not been taught to read by his former handler, but he treasured it already. Tucking the pad back into his pocket, Tavi turned to thank the man, but he was already gone.
After spending a few more minutes observing the people but seeing no signs of food, Tavi's attention returned once more to the pools below the platform. He decided he would play now, and leaped into one, landing with a very messy splash. He received a few dirty looks from passing civilians, but paid them no heed. Indulging in a much needed bath, Tavi enjoyed the water thoroughly.
When he'd had his fill of the water, he climbed out of the pool and looked at his surroundings. Before him stood a very large building with stone pillars and a dome roof. It was flanked by two very large flames and a lettered sign over the doors. Tavi silently sounded out the words...Paragon City Hall. What could this place be? Already fairly certain that his presence was not of much importance to these humans, Tavi approached the building and entered as if it were a common occurance for a Rikti monkey to be in City Hall.
