Before Paragon City
Kathryn "Kate" St. Claire was born in lower east Chicago on February 28, 1990. Her father Richard was unemployed for the majority of her childhood, while her mother earned a modest living as a housemaid; Kate and her brother lived most of their early lives in poverty. She attended some of Chicago's most underperforming schools until she flunked out in her junior year of high school.
As a child, Kate's teachers recognized her immense intellect and recommended she enroll in higher level schools, but due to her family's financial difficulties this was not possible. Her rage against not reaching her potential caused her to lash out, and by the time she entered high school she was taking drugs and having casual sex just to spite her parents. This led to her failing grades and her eventual dropping out of school.
At 17, Kate became pregnant and hid it from her boyfriend for three months. When she revealed her secret, her boyfriend pushed her down the stairs in the fight that followed, injuring her and killing her unborn baby. In her rage, Kate murdered her boyfriend and went on the run.
She spent the next three years hiding in small towns in New Mexico and Arizona, taking different jobs and different names while she stayed in homeless shelters until they kicked her out. Her money ran low and she returned to her parents, hoping to reconcile with them, but they called the police on her and caused her to run away again.
The trauma Kate suffered as a result of her baby's death, her boyfriend's murder, her family's betrayal and her guilt drove her to breaking point - and triggered the awakening of her psychic powers. Out of her shame grew a desire to heal, which gave birth to her empathic abilities and her power to accelerate the healing process. Upon her arrival at Paragon City, she joined up with the Hellions and remained part of the gang until recently. Her skills at lying and her mental powers made her a valuable member of their group, and she was frequently used to manipulate those with power into doing the gang's bidding. After a few months of this she became ashamed of what she was doing with them, and she left - wiping the memories of her out of their minds - and is now trying to become a hero.
Affiliation
Riviere is currently a member of Maximilian Gold's mutant team The Gold Corporation. Though she was at first uneasy about joining a team, she has grown to like her teammates and is eager to contribute as much as she can.
Powers
Riviere possesses incredible telepathic ability which allows her to scan minds, read thoughts, induce emotions, and project illusions. She can also access the brain and force people into states of deep sleep, as well as accelerate the healing process. She has shown signs of limited precognitive ability which has kept her out of immediate danger more than once. Riviere also possesses limited telekinetic ability and is powerful enough to move one full-grown person around with ease.
Personality
The trauma in Kate's life has molded her into a sober person, who has a deep desire to care for others. Though she doesn't talk much, she will always go out of her way to help others. She is a born cooperator, but makes sure she is in charge of her own life and never lets anyone tell her what to do. Despite her quiet persona, she is very brave and extremely stubborn, and has trouble accepting her mistakes. Shame over her past actions has planted in her a desire for redemption; this is part of the reason why she took up crime-fighting. At heart she is a caring person, but when she has an objective she will do anything without remorse to achieve it.
Although she comes off as confident, Kate has deep self-esteem and trust issues rooted in her past. Since her parents reported her to the police she has been unable to trust anyone; she remains very secretive because she is too afraid of confiding in anyone only to be betrayed. Kate is also extremely manipulative even without her powers, and she often uses this skill to get people to do what she believes is right.
Since acquiring her telepathy, Kate has frequent sudden episodes where she can "hear" her dead baby. She sees mental images of him as if he were still alive and growing, and this has given birth to extreme depression which she has trouble fighting.

Her favorite genre of music is R&B, and she dreams of one day becoming a singer.
Though her parents betrayed her, she remains close with her younger brother, who has recently shown signs of control over ice.
She is a caffeine addict and is always drinking coffee.
She also has the ability to teleport long distances. However, she tries to avoid using this power since she is very afraid of heights - when she needs to use it she stays as close to the ground as possible.
Her time as a fugitive helped her develop survival skills, and she is adept at tracking, hunting, stealing, and deceiving.
