BACKGROUND

Deep within the poisonous, frigid swirls of the gas giant known as Saturn there lies a dimensional void that mankind has only begun to understand.

From the trenches of that void, comes Saturn Boy.

The Launch

In August of 2006, a strange radiation flare was detected by the Cassini probe and NASA struggled to understand its implications. Later, they realized the flare was actually the launch of some kind of alien craft, and the cargo was headed straight to Earth.

Astronomers debated wildly as to the meaning of the event. All of them agreed that life must exist on Saturn, and yet no scans or signs of said life could be detected by Cassini-Huygen. Indeed, the conditions at the center of Saturn are extremely hostile to any form of life known in the universe and this made the mysterious package from Saturn all the more mysterious – and possibly dangerous.

The Debate

While the launch of the craft from Saturn remained a mystery, the destination and trajectory of the ship was not. It was headed straight for Earth, and at a speed that would allow the craft to arrive on Earth, exactly one solar year after it was launched from the center of Saturn.

Many military strategists and even some superheroes began to argue that the craft had to be assumed dangerous, indeed some even suggested there was a possibility the ship was Rikti in origin, seeing how it seemed to appear from some kind of trans-dimensional space.

No life forms were detected aboard the craft, and it did not appear to have any exterior weapons. Despite debate and desire by many to destroy the craft, the United Nations agreed to monitor the craft, and destroy the contents only if it appeared to manifest a threat to Earth as it approached.

The Crisis

In August of 2007, the craft began to descend into the Earth’s atmosphere. It appeared to navigate to the correct trajectory for entry into Earth without aid of rockets or any visible external guidance systems.

When it was clear the craft was specifically adjusting its descent pattern to ensure the ship landed at the center of Atlas Park in Paragon City, the US decided to authorize military force to destroy the craft.

“We had no idea what it was, it was alien and it seemed to manifest Rikti properties, we had to be safe rather than sorry, and so the issue was given to destroy the craft before it hit the surface,” explained one Pentagon official.

All attempts to destroy the vehicle however failed. Some of the most powerful superheroes in Paragon were commissioned to quickly destroy the craft, but even they failed to summon the power to destroy or alter the craft’s trajectory.

The Landing

The vehicle landed safely and softly, right at the center of Atlas Park, just in front of the Atlas Statue. The craft then slowly opened its doors, and a strange amber glow began to pulse within.

The vehicle then just lay there, with no creature or item crawling out of the main pod of the craft. Miss Liberty was the first to inspect the inside of the craft and reported:

“I was tentative. The ship had resisted some of the greatest powers known to humanity, and now it was right in front of me, inviting me to investigate. I peered inside, not knowing what to expect. I was shocked to find the content of the ship, was in fact, a teenage boy.”

Indeed, at the center of the craft, lying on his back, motionless and seemingly lifeless was the body of teenage boy. He was covered in robotic armor, and he wore a space helmet that attached directly to his neck and shoulders.

Attached to his left shoulder, was a simple note, scrawled as casually as one would have written a grocery list. The message was both simple and cryptic:

I am Saturn Boy. I come from Saturn. Please make me a real boy.

Activation

Freedom Corps security agents arrived at the scene and surveyed the crash site. It was determined rather quickly that the boy inside craft should be removed immediately and sent to a secure location in a secret underground laboratory.

For weeks, Saturn Boy was examined and analyzed by a variety of high-tech scientists. It was deemed that Saturn Boy was a robot of some kind, but was currently inactive. It did not take long for the scientists to figure out how to activate the boy.

What they could not figure out what was how to disassemble the boy, nor could they even identify the alloy from which he would made.

When it was deemed the robot was relatively safe, Saturn Boy was activated in a secure cell. A bright yellow light emanated from the visor of Saturn Boy’s space mask and his arms slowly lifted into the air. He walked awkwardly at first until he realized he was contained in a small concrete cell. That is when he uttered his first phrase in perfect (albeit somewhat monotone and emotionless) English…

“I am Saturn Boy. Please make me a real boy. I await further instruction.”

Training

Since Saturn Boy’s activation, Freedom Corps has found the robot to be incredibly cooperative, an extremely fast learner and pre-programmed with alarming agility and speed.

Immediately Freedom Corps, saw the potential of the robot as a crime fighter, and trained Saturn Boy to perform basic sweeps of Atlas Park, halting any mugging, purse snatching or thievery he encountered.

He has done remarkably well in this basic crime-fighting role and Freedom Corps now has hopes he can grow and become a major crime-fighting agent for them.
