Shadowleech was once a powerful enforcer within the 5th Column. After the Council took over, he left. He was soon captured by Kheldian Peacebringers, and was converted to the path of good. He took the name 'Parasitic Leech' after fusing with a willing host named Lee Roberts, but after Lee Roberts died he ended up taking back the name he used as a Nictus, Shadowleech.

Planet Zen

Centuries ago in a far away place in space lay the Planet known to the Nictus as 'Zen.' Upon this planet resided the Nictus race. When the planet shifted towards the abstracted star north pattern, Zen was relocated closer to earth. Because of the relocation, Zen went from paradise to hell for the Nictus. Many died, and the planet became harder to manage and materials became scarce. The Nictus began to hunt and enslave the Kheldian race. Believing that they were truely superior, the Nictus felt no remorse. Finally after ages of enslaving their Kheldian thralls, the Kheldian rebelled with great strength and hatred for their Nictus masters. A full out war was sparked, and many more deaths came to the Nictus and to the Kheldian rebels. The Planet Zen lost all its beauty and only the ugliness that death left behind survived to rot and decay. The Nictus race couldn't hold off the full power of the Kheldian rebels, losing so many daily. The war continued without a break for 3 years until finally the planet released an atomic explosion from within the core of Zen, killing almost all in its massive blast. The explosion tore a back hole in space, and what remains of Zen were left after the explosion was sucked into oblivion. Few survived the blast, and fewer survived the black hole.

Only a handful of Nictus and Kheldian managed to escape the blast and the black hole. Shadowleech was one of the lucky ones. Arriving on Planet Earth during the first Rikti Invasion, Shadowleech slowly began to die on Earth due the conditions of the Planet. He was rescued by the 5th Column leader Requiem. Shadowleech was given a weakened host to posses, and then a suit. He joined Requiem so that he would have allies on earth that would provide him prey to feed on. Shadowleech's thirst for human energy was fueled by his blinding rage, and slowly his lust for power grew as did his thirst for human energies. The more Shadowleech killed, the harder it was to understand right from wrong. After a few years within the 5th Column, Shadowleech became so power hungry that he developed defiance towards Requiem. Shadowleech would often disobey orders given to him, and would endanger many 5th Column soldiers just to sate his thirst and entertainment. It wasn't long until the heroes of Paragon finally weighed down enough on the 5th Column for the Council to take over. After the 5th Column collapsed, Shadowleech left to prey on everyone in Paragon City, taking with him a small legion of the remaining 5th Column soldiers who were devoted to him. After he secured a base for him and his soldiers, he kidnapped a man named Dr. Roberts. The hapless Doctor was so pure and kind, that he was able to talk some sense into Shadowleech during an interrogation. Dr. Roberts tried to convince Shadowleech that he was wrong, and used words so powerful that it made Shadowleech aware of something that he had long ago forgotten; Morals.

Dr. Roberts pleaded for his life, promising Shadowleech that he'd not tell anyone. Shadowleech then offered a handshake, and as the smiling doctor accepted his hand, Shadowleech sent a bolt of Umbral energy through his body. This stopped Dr. Roberts's heart and killed him instantly. However after that event, Shadowleech's morals would remain to haunt him. When the media found the body of Dr. Roberts in a dumpster, a voice cried out in Paragon City; the son of Dr. Roberts named Lee Roberts had spoke on news and swore vengeance on the 'bastards' who did this on live T.V.

Lee Roberts, along with the Peacebringers began to search for the killers of his father. A week later, the Peacebringers stormed Shadowleech's base and eliminated all his soldiers. Cornered, Shadowleech begged for mercy and pleaded for his life. The Peacebringers showed no mercy and before they could finish Shadowleech, young Lee Roberts ceased the attack. He confronted Shadowleech and offered a hand to him as he lay helpless, and said "I shall forgive you and spare you under one condition; You turn from the path of evil and join Shadowstar and the Warshades. You will release the body you posses and fuse with a willing host; me."

Shadowleech was astonished by the young man's heart of gold and asked him why he was doing this. The young Lee Roberts responded in a gentle voice. "Because if I murder you out of blind hatred, I will be no better than you. I've already defeated you, so I have avenged my father's death..."

Shadowleech and Lee Roberts met with Shadowstar. Then Shadowleech and Lee Roberts fused into one, thus creating the hero Parasitic Leech.

Parasitic Leech was offered a chance for redemption. He was informed that Task Force Stega failed to save Terra Volta's Reactor, and so the Freedom Phalanx was called to take care of things before the reactor blows up half the city. Parasitic Leech was commanded by Statesman himself to assist the Freedom Phalanx by acting as a scout and entering the mission first. Parasitic Leech did so, and gave the message telling Statesman that it was safe to come in. When they entered the reactor room, all were protected in suits. As the Freedom Phalanx attempted to stave the Reactor's radiation, Parasitic Leech's suit tore somehow... Although he survived the radiation exposure, the Lee Roberts that was inside perished. Parasitic Leech was swollen with rage and sorrow. Statesman confronted Parasitic Leech and told him that the death of Lee Roberts would not be forgotten, and that a statue in Lee Roberts visage would be built in Atlas Park. Parasitic Leech was then sent to Galaxy City where he would meet with the leader of the Warshades, Shadowstar.

Although the statue was never built, Parasitic Leech understood why and was very forgiving. He knew that no one trusted him, and that he was liked by no one due to his past... He would have to prove to the City that he was changed... And Shadowstar was the person to help him achieve this. After completing his first mission, he heard that the group The Palladium Sentry were recruiting. He and a few others were then taken to the Palladium Sentry base by American Avenger. and then were pulled up to a private area one at a time and interviewed by the leader Knight Sentinel.

When Knight Sentinel interviewed Parasitic Leech, he seemed unsure about the idea of letting in such a dark looking hero. However, after Parasitic Leech told him of what made him want to join, Knight Sentinel allowed Parasitic Leech to join the Palladium Sentry. Doing several missions for several contacts from Galaxy City, Hollows, King's Row, and even Steel Canyon. Parasitic Leech's reputation grew and the citizens all over Paragon spoke nothing but good about him. Parasitic Leech then formed a task force consisting of young heroes such as himself before he confronted Positron.

Impressed by the raw determination and loyalty to the city, Positron agreed to give them a mission. Parasitic Leech and the Task Force were able to save the city's dam from the Clockwork, Vahzilok, and the Circle of Thorns. Positron awarded each member of the Task Force a metal for their service.

Afterwards, Parasitic Leech decided that he was ready to take a step higher in his heroic career and join American Avenger.'s assault division within the Sentry. Confronting American Avenger., Parasitic Leech was able to join the Assault Division. Being a step higher, American Avenger. began to give tougher missions to Parasitic Leech.

Parasitic Leech began to investigate the Clockwork after putting away many leaders of the small time gangs; Hellions, Skulls, Trolls, and even Frostfire of the Outcasts. In one base, Parasitic Leech came across the Clockwork King's journal which contained writing that spoke of hate towards him. Parasitic Leech reminded the Clockwork King of the exact vigilante which destroyed his body.

Parasitic Leech continued to foil the Clockwork King's plans. From stopping Paladin constructions with large teams of heroes, to rescuing captives from Clockwork. With every mission, Parasitic Leech grew to understand the Clockwork King even more.

The Clockwork King reminded Parasitic Leech of himself before he joined the heroes. Feeling pity towards the Clockwork King, soon he realized that not all villains were truly bad... That some, like the Clockwork King, were just misunderstood by others, like himself.

Upon a certain mission, the Clockwork had captured an engineer and his family. When Parasitic Leech rescued the man, he was given information which led to the place where the engineer's family was held captive at. It was that mission which had shown Parasitic Leech that the Clockwork were not as bad as the heroes told him. Seeing a Clockwork sprocket carry food and drinks to the captives, Parasitic Leech saw how the Clockwork tried to keep the two captives in good health. The Clockwork treated them well even when they were holding them hostage.

This angered Parasitic Leech as he began to tear the robots apart to rescue the family. Although in the end he rescued the family, Parasitic Leech grew slightly colder towards the heroes of Paragon. It also made it harder for him to harm the Clockwork after realizing how similar the Clockwork and he had in common.

Now with different perspectives on things, and with an open mind; Parasitic Leech began to think slightly down on the heroes... Questioning their morals, pondering on if he truly wants to be a 'hero' of Paragon.
