Chapter 1
The Forging Of A Shield
After the first Rikti War, Paragon was nothing more than prey to criminals and arch villains alike. The raid pillaged and plundered, the heroes were decimated and ravaged by the Rikti and hence forth could not stop the waves and waves of crime that was spreading through the city like a unstoppable virus. This called forth for the upstart heroes and the nameless to really shine; they had to step forth and show they either were the real deal or they were nothing more than wanna-be heroes. One hero who already had a name for himself, as the native son of Paragon and the city's finest astronomer and leading researcher on super novas, was Akiles Thompson. He had survived a devastating explosion in his observatory which gave him his powers; he from that point on became the Justice Super Nova. As he combated this criminal plague that swept his city he made two hero contacts; ManBear and Lady Micaela, who both were not from this city, had been plunged into this city in the most vile of its times. Its bright light being snuffed out by the darkness and the corruption of evil doers throughout the city but during missions they would bump into each other from time to time and sometimes help each other on cases they were working. All three of them where working on a Circle of Thorns case when the question was asked to make a super group to shield the citizens from the evil grip that was choking Paragon. It wasn’t taken into consideration until...
the mission took a turn for the worst and they were in a desperate struggle. Despite the fight for their lives, they seemed to work like a well oiled machine. The team work was perfect, everything was executed to perfection and the only one hurt in the end was the Circle. With the thought of ridding this evil grip around the neck of the precious city, they live. They forged a super group, the Shields of Paragon.
Chapter 2
The Rikti's Second Coming
Shields of Paragon was only a small group of members. They fought crime, slowly removing the chokehold of the criminals. Gathering members along the way, they put upstart criminal organizations out of business before they could even start and put a nearly endless list of highly wanted Hellions and Skulls into the Zig. They even got some credit for foiling an attempted Arachnos robbery. Not just them, but all the city's heroes desperately tried to eliminate the crime sprees and were nearly lifted free. They had the upper hand; it all went to hell in the worst way when the Rikti came back for a second crack at the human race. Shields of Paragon fought on the frontlines; it was an ugly battle. They were in the center of the line and heroes on either side of them. The battle seemed to be endless and they were all exhausted but when things couldn’t get any worse, they noticed everyone else had been killed and it didn’t become about holding the line anymore, it became a desperate struggle to survive another second in a bloody last stand. They refused to give the line, they fought hard and long to protect; the city that they had fought fiercely in attempt to wash the stain of evil and corruption off its’ beautiful streets and lovely citizens. Now these invaders had crushed everything and they wouldn’t give it up without a fight. Battered and bloody, Shields of Paragon witnessed the most spectacular of scenes before them. Collapsing in a bloody mess, they watched as Statesmen led a group of heroes crashing into the line. Don't ask the Shields of Paragon the rest; they can't remember more than what was told by Statesmen himself. That they did it, they held the line.
Chapter 3
The Calm Before the Storm
After the ashes of the second Rikti war, it marked the lowest point in morale since the Shields of Paragon had been created. The city was in shambles, crime was at an all time high and everything they had fought for had come undone. They had just suffered a major beating, one they had never felt before. It was back to the streets to, once again, to rid the Paragon of this plague that had stricken their beautiful city. Days of fighting turned into weeks, and weeks of fighting turned into months with progress coming slow. The worst of it seemed finally over. Their ranks had boosted some and they had a small reputation from the Rikti War. They were going to begin to unwind, that was until they got a call from Portal Corp. They had discovered a evil Praetorian version of Shields of Paragon called the Corruption Syndicate. Out of curiosity, they decided to go meet the Corruption Syndicate. When they went over, it wasn’t a pleasant welcome. They were confronted head on by their evil selves and they didn’t waste any time to show that there was no such thing as diplomacy. A fight ensued; it was brutal but the worst part was trying to learn the way to best themselves. The Shields of Paragon were quickly forced back the way they came, back through the portal, which was then shut down immediately. However, The Corruption Syndicate managed to find the exact frequency of the portal and reversed the flow, allowing them to come open their portal and come through Paragon Citys’ side. They immediately began to wreak havoc. The already weary Shields of Paragon began yet another desperate fight. It was one of the hardest battles they had to fight. The Rikti seemed like a cakewalk compared to the battle against them. The need to find their own weakness and use it against the Corruption Syndicate was the ultimate goal in their defeat. The intensity at which The Corruption Syndicate fought was overwhelming and pushed them to levels of power they never could imagined they had. It was grim but it was a last minute bloody rally and a full on desperate charge that ended in Shields of Paragons favor. They were able to barely force the Corruption Syndicate to retreat back into the portal and shut it down. The portal was destroyed to make sure they would never make it through again. A hard lesson had been learnt and many eyes were open. That they were almost wiped out motivated them to train harder, to never give up hope, to fuel the determination to survive, and be ready. For truly the worst of their foes was themselves.
Chapter 4
To Serve and Protect
The almost disastrous and fatal confrontation with The Corruption Syndicate had been a complete wakeup call. Shields of Paragon were thrown a curve ball, but in the hero business they should have known to expect the unexpected. Days upon days of rigorous training to prepare themselves for, not only the next enemy, but for the trials against themselves. After months of stopping random crimes it was decided to launch a assault on a specific criminal organization and cripple them to lower the rate of unlawful wrongdoing. The first on their list was the rampant street thugs, the Hellions. After almost six months of hammering them nonstop, day and night with the PPD, they had put away most of the Hellions biggest leaders. Putting a stop to most of the crime waves, Shields of Paragon focused their attention to The Skulls next, who had been seizing opportunities while Hellions where being decimated by the arrests; they had been carving away at Hellion territory. After pushing the Skulls back to their turf, they nearly wiped out The Skulls the same way they did the Hellions; by arresting the major leaders and crippling their crime activities. The next target was the Circle of Thorns. Their target set and objectives planned, a turn of events would change everything, One of the first members of Shields of Paragon, Lady Fantasma, was on a routine patrol when she saw a group of Archons Spiders causing civil unrest. Calling in for backup, she decided to confront the Spiders. On any other day she could have took them, but out of a mystics shop, Ghost Widow Appeared with Black Scorpion. She was brutal beaten by the time back up arrived. Lady Fantasma was broken and bloody on the ground and Ghost Widow and Black Scorpion were nowhere to be found. The Spiders were just retreating. Lady Fantasma died in Steel Canyon in the arms of Savior of Life, also a long time member. From that point on, it was decided to focus all attention to bringing down The Arachnos, and if possible, bring Recluse and his lieutenants to justice; not only for the vengeance of their fallen comrade, but for the safety and protection of their city, which had obviously become under siege by The Arachnos.
