The Way things Work

In a remote part of Japan, the way of the Ninja still thrives, small villages of Shinobi lay hidden to those who are not welcomed, The villages lay inside of larger sections of land known as the feudal territories, each territory is run by a feudal lord, who controls all the Ninja in his domain. The feudal lords sometimes disputed over this or that, therefore the Shinobi were utilized as tools to do the bidding of the feudal lord. Ninja are neither inherently good or evil. They are simply an extension of the one who hires them. If they are commanded by a good feudal lord, their actions will be wholesome, if they are controlled by an evil feudal lord, their actions may be more sinister.

The Order Goes down from the Feudal Domain, to the Village territory's inside each domain, down to Clan holdings inside the villages

In the domain of one of the more honorable Feudal lords their was a village known as the Earth Village. Inside the Village were several Clans, one of them being the Kazan, or Volcano clan. Kazan Shinobi were masters of the elemental of Fire, Secret Clan techniques were guarded jealously among the clans and the Villages, Shinobi could always be identified by what kind of techniques they used in combat.

The House of Kazan

A young man in the named Kaolin had been gathering renown among in the Earth Village as one of the Kazan Clan's strongest rising shinobi. Kaolin was gifted with a rare Kazan Clan ability called the divine sight, he was also a prodigy in ninja arts, becoming a master of combat and hidden techniques, and the specialized skill of Kyyudo, Archery.

Not only was the Young Shinobi rising to great honor, he was in love. At the age of 25 Kaolin married a young woman named Mika. At the age of 30, their first child was born. Kitsu, Kaolin's daughter. Three years later Kaolin and Mika's second and third children were born. Twin boys, Okasaki and Nuragi.

The Ninja's Suffering

Betrayal of Barraku

Five years ago in the Village of the Earth, there was a massacre carried out by a Shinobi that came from within the village itself. Shitorimoto Ruiga, of the Bakufu clan, revealed his evil to the Earth village by turning rouge and murdering every single living person in the village on one day and night of ruthless slaughter.

Systematically moving through the streets and the homes Ruiga left not a single survivor, with the exception of Kaolin, who had unexpectedly left the village that morning to run a high priority mission for the Earth village council of elders.

Kaolin returned to the village to find the streets soaked in a river of blood. Running franticly through the village, jumping over slain bodies of friends and compatriots he had known his whole life, Kaolin rushed to his home. When he arrived he found half of the house to have been blown off. Rushing inside, he found his family in one of the destroyed portions of the house, his wife lay on her back , he throat slit and a kunai plunged into her heart. She had fallen standing between her murderer and her children. The seven year old Twins, Nuragi and Okasaki, lay on their stomachs, having rushed the assailant after he killed their mother, Nuragi has an arrow imbeded in his left eye that had come all the way out of the back of his head, and Okasaki had been peppered with kunai, at least twenty stuck from his body. Kitsu, had been slashed with a sword, her small ten year old body had been gashed open from her right shoulder down across to her left hip.

Kaolin collapsed over the bodies of his family, drawing them in and weeping bitterly over their bodies. When he had removed the arrows and kunai from them, and had may them together peacefully he set out in a blind storm of grief and rage. Through the streets he sprang from roof to roof, following the patterns of killing like a trail, until he reached the outskirt of the village, where beside a waterfall on a large boulder, sat Ruiga, lotus style, seeming to be meditating.

The pure heart

After finding Ruiga the two battled, the fight between Kaolin of the Kazan and Ruiga of the Bakufu has become a near legendary tale among the feudal regions. The fight lasted for five hours hours, the sun had began to rise as the battle came to its end. After the massacre Ruiga had committed, his energy was drained, the fighting and killing of so many had left him weak. Even in his state the rouge was a foe of terrible power. Kaolin very nearly lost his life and was just barely able to disarm him and notch an arrow pressed to his neck.

With Ruiga, defenseless at his feet Kaolin found himself unable to deliver the fatal blow to kill the monster that had slaughtered his family, friends, and everyone he had grown up knowing. His heart would not allow him to respond to murder with vengeance and more murder. He took Ruiga into custody and brought him to a neighboring Village that had long been close allies with the Earth Village. Once Ruiga had been locked away under heavy guard in the Eagle village, Kaolin left to return to the ruins of his home. He joined the band of men from other villages who had gathered to lay the bodies to rest and to close down the village.

Leaving the Land of the Rising Sun Behind

After the burial of the villagers and the village had been respectfully closed down untouched as a tribute to those who died, Kaolin left to being a journey that would take him wandering across Japan for nearly five years, working where he could be hired, trying to settle himself anywhere he could try to begin again. Eventually he left Japan and traveled to America, where he came to Paragon city, learning of it's crumbling state as it struggled to rebuild. He felt that this was a cause that he could devote his life to, in order to atone for his dishonor of not protecting his village and his family.
