Background

Black Thunder I

In 1984, Bruce Obidiah Canfield(Now Senoir) was your average mild mannered straight A student who was often picked on by the school bully, Lawrence Allan, and his friends. However, Bruce's life would change forever on one fateful day. During a school field trip to a science expo in New York, Lawrence and his friends cornered Bruce. No matter how hard Bruce struggled, the bullies got the upper hand and threw Bruce into an experimental generator that was left unsupervised. At first, it appeared as if Bruce was completely vaporized. However, the generator would soon lose its energy as Bruce reformed inside it.

At first, Bruce used his powers for monetary benefit under the alias of Black Thunder, appearing on talk shows and displaying his new powers to impress the audience. Villains surfaced and tried to attack him, but they proved to be no match. He continued through to 1985, making money from impressing viewers on television and small theaters. This would change once a new villain emerged. A Council mercenary known as Dracul would often attack Black Thunder. The two would be equals as enemies, but Dracul would strike Black Thunder where it hurt.

Dracul would attempt to and succeed in killing Black Thunder's father. As Bruce's father died in his arms, he swore revenge against the council, relentlessly hunting them and putting them behind bars. Another hero, Black Power saw a teenager on a crusade against the Council and stepped in to mentor the younger hero. At first, Bruce was arrogant about his powers, but Black Power taught him the importance of humility.

These lessons would shape the hero into an honest and just paragon of the innocent. Bruce would soon marry his former classmate, Linda Yamamoto, and start a family with her. Bruce would also form Canfield Enterprises, an entertainment company.

Shock Star

Ryan Ezekiel Canfield grew up fairly spoiled to a wealthy family, never really experiencing the hardships his parents once faced. Though born with a mutated gene that gave him power over electricity, he felt that the world had enough heroes. With his older brother Bruce Jr taking up the mantle of the second Black Thunder, Ryan decided to try and live a normal life. Bruce Sr felt that his second son was resting on his laurels and coasting through life, but Ryan would succeed in his studies in school and eventually become an accountant in the family business.

One day would change Ryan's life, however. In 2012, Black Thunder II would go missing and the Canfield family would worry about him. Without hesitation, Ryan would search for his older brother across Paragon City. Despite finding no leads, he searched tirelessly to find Bruce Jr, often sleeping for only four hours a night. Even when the Paragon Police Department gave up, he continued searching for months.

Eventually, Ryan found a lead that would take him to Dark Astoria. The Banished Pantheon's influence had grown so strong there that Mot was able to completely control the area. But Ryan wasn't afraid. He had to save his brother or die trying. He had noticed other heroes fighting against insurmountable odds, and their courage motivated him to keep going. Ryan eventually found Bruce Jr, curled up on the ground in a fetal position after seeing first hand the horrors of the Banished Pantheon. Mot's forces would descent upon the brothers, but heroes would step in and save them, buying enough time for Ryan to get his brother out of there.

Since that time, Bruce Jr gave up the mantle of Black Thunder, turning away from ever being a hero again after the trauma Dark Astoria put him through. Because of this, Ryan took to the streets of Paragon City, donning the name Shock Star. Shock Star has found fame through the various commercials he's been in as a hero sponsored by Canfield Enterprises. However, his older brother Jordie acts as a costume double when both Shock Star and Ryan are expected to be in the same place

The Man Behind The Mask

Personality

For the most part, Ryan is a socially awkward individual who tends to feel uncomfortable outside his costume. Though he had a wealthy upbringing, he finds it hard to talk to people at social gatherings because he felt out of place at the dinner parties he attended as a kid. Much like his father, Ryan excels at academics though he is savvy with pop culture as well. For the most part, Ryan is pretty clean cut.

Once he puts his costume on, he gains a certain amount of confidence. Though his is still awkward, he often wears that awkwardness as a badge of honor, though he can be a capable tactician at times. Because he is a skilled marksman with his electrical powers, he can be quite cocky about his chances against enemies, often leading him to bite off more then he can chew. A good example of this trait would be the time he was captured by a rogue Praetorian squad he was sent to investigate.

He is a kind and caring person as well, often rushing to the aid of others. However, he is always self conscious about his electromagnetic field, being first to blame it when something goes wrong.

Powers

Electrokinesis - Ryan has the ability to generate, create, and control electricity. He can utilize this offensively, generating blasts of electricity to incapacitate his foes.

Electrical Absorption - He can absorb electricity, storing it inside his body for many purposes. This includes storing it and using it for future attacks, healing from injuries he has sustained, and restoring power to electronic devices.

Magnetism - He can also move ferrous objects by affecting polarity, causing the object to hold a magnetic charge. This can be used to stick ferrous objects together or swiftly moving ferrous objects from point A to point B. He can move up to a metric tonne using this power

Telekinesis - When dealing with non-ferrous objects, he can move the object in question using the power of his mind. His telekinesis has a limit of up to 500lbs

Psychic Resistance - Due to the passive electromagnetic field he generates, it is very difficult for psychics to read his mind. As a result, most psychics would hear nothing but static when attempting telepathy on him.

Equipment

Magnetically shielded cellphone - A Canfield Enterprises prototype smartphone shielded against magnetic disruptions, this phone was built specifically to work when Ryan uses it.

Modified costume - The Shock Star costume was built to resist heat and electric damage. The eyepieces also come with a heads up display to give Ryan notifications in real time.

Cryo grenades - A specialized type of grenade built to immobilize villains by creating an ice cage that halts their movement without freezing them internally.

Handcuffs - "Every hero needs these." ~ Shock Star

Weaknesses

Aquaphobia - Ryan has an intense fear of drowning as he is unable to swim in large bodies of water. Despite his awareness of this fear being irrational, it still cripples him in places like Talos Island and Striga Isle.

Electromagnetic problems - Ryan's electromagnetic field also triggers strange things to happen to and around him. Animals react to him with hostility and fear. Machines malfunction around him. His dates end up with 80s style frizzy hair.
