Soul Brutha is a Martial Arts/Regeneration Scrapper on Virtue. He was inspired from many different sources such as the old black martial arts movies, Huey Newton, and recently brought to my attention Samuel Jackson. I made him a Black Militant Super Hero, that doesn't mean he is the stereotype everyone else thinks of beating up on other races he protects everyone because that is how he was raised and I guess that is a reflection on myself and my upbringing so yea add that to part of the inspirations hah.

Personality
Soul Brutha can be described as militant as most people can tell by looking at his costumes when he is seen leaping from roof top to roof top. However he is not always serious and actually jokes around with people he is familiar with otherwise he can be pretty quiet. When he begins to fight his face becomes stern and serious and you can even see him crack a smile when he begins to have fun fighting with someone at an equal level as him especially in martial arts or when fighting multiple enemies at once.
You can find him sometimes listening to music in his off time usually blasting 2pac, Ice Cube, Public Enemy, Dr. Dre, and recently Common. His whole demeanor yells Black Pride especially with the Black Panther tattoo on his right arm. Yet all citizens of Paragon have boasted about how approachable he is and he protects all without prejudice but you can never have too many positive role models for the children and adults in the community to look up to.
History
Soul Brutha was born Hakeem Owens 1987, to a Juanita and Roger Owens. His family had always been very active in the Black movements throughout history and were among the first members of the Black Panther Party. "Soul Brutha" was actually a nickname given to the men of his family who upheld what was right and went above and beyond not just for Blacks but the injustice of people everywhere. They believed that's what was part of being a Panther and a Man. The nickname was first given to Soul's Grandfather by Huey Newton himself.
When Hakeem was born his father and mother were overjoyed especially his mother who after having three daughters finally had the son she wanted. However they noticed there was something different about their son. When he was still in the hospital one of the nurses accidentally dropped the two day old baby twisting his arm. Right when Roger's anger about reached the point of no return he noticed the arm began to bend and twist back into shape, the swelling went down and the small cut sealed up. After much testing it was found that a dormant gene that had been the family had surfaced in Hakeem that hadn't been seen since a documented "possession" of their ancestor during slavery in the south.
Instead of shunning him like some of the other parents had done to their mutant children they embraced his talents and spoiled him like any other child. When he turned seven Roger saw the potential his son could have with his healing abilities and enrolled him in martial arts. Not just any martial arts school, Hakeem was personally trained by Jackie Brown the best Black martial artists on the west coast. Hakeem thought it would be easy Jackie being a female maybe she'd go easy on him but it was the exact opposite. Knowing of his Regeneration she trained him harder than any student she had trained before, harder and more grueling than her master had taught her.
She wanted him to be the greatest martial artist in the world and no one would be able to hold him back. Whenever he got a cut, scrape, gash, broke a leg, arm, or crushed ribs she would just respond with a hard "It'll heal now get up" and keep the training going. If it wasn't for her Hakeem might not have been the hero he is today. When he turned 18 his training was done, Jackie had a warm smile on her face and with a hug made sure Hakeem understood that he still had growing to do she had trained him in mind and body as much as she could but he had to do the rest.
When Hakeem graduated from High School his father sent him away to college to study Biology and Medicine but when he was finished he thought it a good idea to send him to Paragon City. Where he could not only defend his people but defend people all over the world and become a hero for his race and his community. Roger and Juanita even called a special meeting with the Panthers where Hakeem was bestowed the name that had been in his family for generations..Soul Brutha. With that Soul Brutha packed said good bye to his family and friends then headed off the Paragon City where he was warmly welcomed by Ms. Liberty.
Soul Brutha is known to still go back to L.A. to visit his family, sometimes greeted by screaming citizens.
Powers
Martial Arts
Soul Brutha has vast knowledge of the martial arts and is always training and becoming stronger everyday usually trying a new move he learned just the day before on some villains. When he focuses his energy he can go into what can only be described as a rapid succession of punches and kicks that is almost impossible to see with the naked eye.
Regeneration
His mutant abilities allow him to recover from wounds very quickly, experts have said he will even age at a vastly slower rate than an average human. For sometime the doctors told his parents he was immortal. They estimated that because of his regenerative abilities he would cease to age at around 30. By then his cells would be in a state of constant repair. His muscle growth was even accelerated for a time before it finally calmed down. The ability to heal from any damage to his body should make him feel invincible and cocky but as he quickly learned from his master Jackie Brown that is not the case. Though difficult his regeneration can be broken through with successive damage from fast successive blows or damage caused so hard and fast he does not have time to recover before the next blow. Soul often jokes that it is a good thing his master beat the crap out of him constantly or he would not have known anything about his powers and limitations.
Leaping
Soul Brutha can jump great bounds clearing canyons and can be seen jumping from roof top to roof top, sometimes he misses and barely catches himself on the ground.
Love Life
Soul Brutha was nervous about finding the right girl ever since he was told what the estimated length of his life would be. He couldn't bare to watch his wife die while he remained alive and looking young. So far he has been using his medical knowledge of the body to use his genes to come up witha serum he can inject into a loved one hopefully giving them the same regenerative properties and life span as him. He is very close, so far trying to come up with a way to prevent duplication and for the serum to work only on who he wants it to work for. Maybe a type of blood or organ transfer to activate the serum hmmmm?
Sorry Ladies I like my Coffee Black. That's gotten him laughs and one time slapped the woman finally forgave him when he saved her from a Vahzilok attack but he still left it as a friendship.
The End of Soul Brutha
WHAT?! you mean all the work I put into this character despite the love I have for it he has to die? well no I guess not. I was actually thinking about how he would die and figured out a way to keep him alive and continue the saga. Soul Brutha loves to fight crime but when he settles down and has a family he obviously can't fight crime the whole time he's alive. Eventually he will pass the ol' black beret down to his son or daughter who will have inevitably inherited the regeneration powers of his/her father and mother or perhaps have other powers of his/her own. Giving old Soul Brutha time to relax with his Wife and enjoy the rest of their life.
Of course his child would need to call on the help of dear old dad to fight those truly gruesome battles, interdimensional or space warfare ya know those comics where the great retired heroes are called upon to help protect the world from some special disaster.
