Spiderguard Veronica is a mercenary soldier serving in the armed forces of Arachnos.
Contents |
Affiliations
Veronica is attached to the Arachnos unit referred to as the Unmentionables, under the command of Carmina Arana. She is under orders to assist the Destined Brutal Dahrqe, an assignment she does not seem pleased with. She has also associated with freelancers including Donna E. Mobile.
Personality
Veronica is a professional soldier who serves Arachnos out of necessity. She is naturally taciturn, stubborn, and tactless. She becomes more gregarious when drunk, which is a frequent occurrence when off duty (although never on the clock). Although she is indifferent to Arachnos ideology and resents being identified as a "villain", she has no particular sympathy for her opponents and takes pride in their swift and efficient dispatch. In matters unrelated to combat, however, she is an unmotivated worker who looks out for herself, cuts corners whenever possible, and is not above participating in schemes to improve her standing at her employer's expense. She is generally truthful to those not in a position to get her in trouble, with two exceptions: she flatly refuses to explain the circumstances of her dishonorable discharge from the Marines other than to say "he had it coming", and she will never explain her obvious past injuries (including a lost eye and facial scars) the same way twice. Although not as virulently bigoted as, say, the Malta Group, Veronica has no love for metahumans, and tends to distrust them by default. She has particularly choice words for the metahuman prisoners Arachnos frees as part of Operation: Destiny, as well as the costumed vigilantes of Paragon City.
Powers
None
Veronica has no metahuman powers whatsoever. Her size and strength are unusual, but well within human range.
Abilities
Military Training
Three years in the United States Marines and over a decade as a mercenary have left Veronica with an excellent grasp of small-squad tactics. She is also proficient in a wide variety of firearms, a skill which has transferred well to the operation of the Crab Spider implanted heavy weapons system.
Equipment
Spiderguard Armor
Like all Arachnos soldiers incorporated into the Crab Spider program, Veronica was attached to a Crab Spider weapon system. The four neurally-controlled armatures are equipped with an array of conventional and energy weapons. She was also issued the standard Crab Spider armor, but declined to use it due to perceived flaws in coverage, mobility, and visibility. Instead, she arranged to obtain a powered armor system built by a foreign manufacturer for certain European militaries. The armor is less thick, but also significantly lighter and more flexible, with a simple but well-engineered joint design that offers good protection and full range of motion.
Weaknesses and Limitations
Veronica is neither the most loyal nor the most reliable of soldiers. She resents the circumstances which have led to her employment with Arachnos. While appeals to her principles are unlikely to sway her, she is likely to accept a bribe if she thinks she can get away with it and if she doesn't believe harm will come to her fellow soldiers as a result.
Physically, Veronica is a human being, and although she is never unarmed thanks to her implanted weapons, she is much more vulnerable when not wearing her armor (and hardly invulnerable when she is).
