For a supposedly random phenomenon, it's amazing how well-adapted most mutants are towards their own powers. This situation, however, is not universal, and to see this, one need look no further than Melissa Detsin.

History

Melissa grew up as the only child of a single mother, in what she calls a 'middle of nowhere' town. Although they were not destitute, there were times that they were only just able to pay their bills. Melissa herself was a shy, quiet youth, and could have been a candidate for any outcast-girl-who-could-be-popular-if-she-really-wanted-to movie.

Genetic Assimilation Deficiency Disorder

Like many mutants, Melissa's changes did not occur until after she became a teenager, and it quickly became apparent that her body was unable to deal with the vast amount of electrical energy it was producing. Although many hospitals in larger cities have equipment and specialists available to handle a wide range of mutation related illnesses and disorders, smaller towns often find themselves overwhelmed when faced with patients whose physiology lies so far from the norm.

With her hometown unable to deal with her condition, and her mother not having the resources to acquire better care, it looked as though Melissa was doomed to an early death. All was not lost, however, for a mysterious benefactor came to the rescue.

Will that be cash or credit?

Melissa's mysterious benefactor, unfortunately, did not seem to be operating from a sense of altruism. He had saved her life, and, in his opinion, she owed him. Alot. In exchange for the equipment to limit her power to safe levels, she was expected to go to the Rogue Isles until she was needed. Oddly, he was unwilling to part with his name, nor to say specifically how Melissa would be repaying him, other than "You aren't strong enough, yet. The Isles will fix that."

Melissa discovered the truth of this for herself soon after arriving on Mercy Island, where Arachnos' 'survival of the fittest' philosophy is made abundantly clear. Fortunately, another philosophy was being espoused on Mercy. Chaos Ex Machina was looking for people who were interested in a different path, and Melissa leapt at the opportunity, joining the ranks of Inevitable Evolution.

Recent Disappearance

Static Override hasn't been seen in the Inevitable Evolution base, or the Rogue Isles at all, in over a month. Precisely why and when are not precisely known, since she had not indicated any intention of leaving to the other members. It is very possible that she was unprepared for any departure, as she had left nearly all of her belongings behind in her room in the base, and only a hastily written message.

There has been recent news, however. Melissa has been taken into custody in Paragon City following an attempted break-in of a minor (and anonymous, since I haven't fabricated any details yet... being lazy and all)Supergroup base. Further details have not yet been released to the public at this time.

Powers and Abilities

Left on her own, Static Override generates alot of electricity. Exactly how much is unclear as she is more than a little reluctant to be seperated from her power suppressing equipment.

Many of her other abilities are also related in some way to electricity or similar forces.

Flight

Static has been experimenting lately with manipulating the polarity in the air surrounding her, attempting to create a 'magnetic repulsion effect'. She has had limited success thus far. (As a side not, she sees nothing odd about adjusting polarities. Says she does it every time she hits something.)

Energy Sense

Static seems to have a limited ability to detect energy sources and flow. As of yet, she has only noticed it in the vicinity of very high concentrations, such as the PTS and its pipes.

Other Abilities

While it is not unlikely that Static Override possesses other talents stemming from her mutation, she currently is unaware of them.

Other Notes

Static Override has a tendancy toward self-deprecation, possibly stemming from the danger her unmitigated power could pose to herself. She finds the situation of needing to protect herself from herself vaguely embarrasing, and will often omit mentioning it when it is not specifically brought up.

Although interested in working with technology and electronics, she had few opportunities to pursue those interests in her old home, and now is unsure how her powers might affect them.

Although referred to as 'Power Suppression', her armor more accurately works to redirect electrical energy, and would theoretically work similarly on anyone (or anything) which generates electricity internally.
