Sturmkrieg was @Sturmkrieg’s first character in the City of Heroes game. Major influences for this character came from my German ancestry and that I think throwing lightning bolts would be cool.

Personality
Sturm’s personality is characterized by grim determination. Serious and focused, Sturm will fight against even overwhelming odds when he feels the cause is right. Sturm was held captive the 5th Column and KGB for 18 years; as a result of missing most of his childhood, he is emotionally shut down and reserved. During his first years of freedom he was frequently confused by Americana. Socially he is very straight laced, preferring a bottle of water to a bottle of beer. Recently, during an unexpected dimensional sojourn, he learned his name and to enjoy a cup of sassafras tea. He is undyingly loyal to any friend he sees as his personal “family.”
Powers
Sturmkrieg is a living electrical storage battery and dimensional conduit. He is only beginning to explore his connection to the Nexus, a place where all realities touch.
Electric Blast
Sturm is able to draw electricity out of the air, the power grid or, if necessary, living beings and focus the energy into highly effective blasts.
Electric Manipulation
Sturm uses electricity to enhance his hand to hand combat ability as well as to hold and immobilize opponents. He has also developed the ability to produce a powerful electromagnetic pulse that wreaks havoc on electronic equipment.
Flight
Sturm is able to hover and fly by producing powerful electromagnetic fields that manipulate or cancel gravity.
Transdimensional Abilities
Sturm’s connection to the Nexus allows limited interdimensional travel and he is able to observe other dimensions by entering a trance state.
Character History
Das Uberkrieger Projekt
Most people never knew the true nature of the reactor at Chernobyl. Under the noses of the Soviet government, the KGB entered an alliance with the 5th Column to develop the first high energy reactor in eastern Europe. The core was poorly shielded and the workers were exposed to unusual temporal radiation coming from a miniscule fracture in space time. The children of these workers began to exhibit strong elemental mutations. This attracted the attention of Doktor Heinz Dietrich, a leader in the 5th Column looking for the key to developing super soldiers with forced mutations. Dietrich studied some three dozen children of the reactor worker in the Chernobyl health clinic. When the reactor exploded, he was able to round many of them up to study their mutations intensively.
Dietrich was not the only one observing these children. The unusually strong mutations had attracted the attention of a number of beings from the elemental planes. A conclave was held in the Nexus, a place where all realities touch, and representative were sent through the rift to study these humans. One of the ambassadors betrayed the delegation and destroyed the reactor, fracturing space time in all directions and dimensions. Fizzett, a denizen of the plane of air, bonded with a boy named Josef Hassler who could draw electricity. Fizzett shielded the young boy from the effects of Dr. Deitrich’s experiments and at the same time suppressed rebellious emotions and troublesome memories. Over time the boy, designated Sturmkrieg lost his memories and mastered his powers. When Dr. Dietrich was recalled to headquarters in Striga, and the Uberkeiger Projekt subjects were to be terminated, Fizzett loosened control over Sturm’s emotions allowing Sturm to destroy the base.
A Hero in Paragon
Sturm was one of two known surviving Uberkriegers. Both he and the frozen Eiskrieg (aka Karl Reinhardt) were sent to Paragon City. The stress of the final battle caused significant amnesia in the young man. Fizzett lost the ability to communicate with Sturm and Sturm lost the knowledge of how to use his abilities. GIFT matched Sturm up with a local hero, Dreamkatcher, as a sponsor and set him up in temporary housing. When GIFT felt they could revive Karl from frozen stasis, Sturm hoped to learn more about his past. Karl’s decade in cold storage left him unstable. While his body had aged slowly, he had been conscious during the ordeal. In the darkness, Karl found he was not alone. The extra dimensional being, Kerraac, taught him of the Nexus and how to observe other shards. Kerraac was as aggressive as Fizzett was controlled. When Karl was revived, Sturm had to brush off his unwanted romantic advances and then hunt him down when Karl killed a base full of Council soldiers by crushing them in blocks of ice. Sturm put Eiskrieg in the Zig, where he remained until the mass escape in October of 2005.
Falling From Grace
In early November 2005, Sturm became embroiled in the controversial Second Rikti Invasion with the other members of the Guardian Angels Reborn. The GAR attempted to involve the Freedom Phalanx in the conflict, but the powers that be refused to believe that these magical, mutated and cyborg Rikti went not an earth-based evolution. After losing a GAR member through a Rikti portal, the Angels sent a strike force through led by Caios and Karnage. While Dreamkatcher, Caios and Carnage kept the Rikti shock troops busy, Sturm led the extraction team to retrieve Drogan Alheron. Sturm sensed that the fabric of space time was severely strained by the Rikti portal network. The heroes rescued their friend and destroyed the portal before the space time rift spread to our world. The GAR was ordered disbanded by order of the City of Paragon for having consorted with the known felons Karnage, Replimax, Eiskrieg, Soulfyre and Burntheart. Sturm spends most of his time in the Shadow Shard working with General Hammond to beat back Rularuu. On January first, 2006, General Hammond presented Sturm with his level 50 security clearance.
What’s In a Name?
As his power evolved, he was able to astral project at will for brief periods of time. During the second Rikti invasion, his powers were destabilized by Rikti transdimensional portal. As a result, Sturm began to phase in and out of reality. Doctors Tina McIntyre and Julia Zahn thought they could control this this ability and use it to locate distant off shoots of this reality. The first attempt found a shard so distant that it had split form this one almost eight thousand years ago. There the world was devastated by a war between Oranbega, Atlantis, the Mu Empire, El Dorado and Shangri-La. This world was magic based and totally devastated by the war. While doing a preliminary assessment, Sturm and Dreamkatcher found the young warrior Hoknell of the Spineray Clan. Upon returning to Paragon, Sturm took responsibility of the young refugee and enrolled him in the newly formed PRIME Academy. The second attempt to locate a distant shard resulted in disaster. Dr. Zahn couldn’t control Sturm’s phasing and he then faded from our reality in to a nearly identical reality. Marooned without his guide, Fizzett, Sturm was forced to find his own was back. While there, he was adopted by the Guardian Angels Reborn, an underground hero group opposing the Victory Corps and Arrowhead. IN this reality, independent heroes were almost non-existent and totally outlawed. Meta humans either joined the Victory Corps or went to prison. In that reality, Sturm did not survive the escape from the 5th Column base in East Berlin, but Karl Reinhardt did. Eiskrieg and Kym Dragon were the lieutenants of this rag-tag group of freedom fighters, led by a shadowy figure named Silver Drake. After assisting them in their struggle, Sturm journeyed to West Virginia to seek out the Stones. He found Margaret and Reynard, but learned that in this reality Thomas Stone had died years before saving a school bus full of children from the Hill Cabal.
After nine months, Sturm managed to return to his own reality and was reunited with Fizzett. Sturm learned that his name was Josef Hassler from Karl. He also learned the value of family.
