Becoming An Avatar
Like most mythological tales, the story starts off with the gods. Centuries ago, as Chinese legend has it, two chaotic demons rampaged across the Eastern land. They were named Fūjin and Raijin and had the powers of the storm. The Buddha set out to capture these demons, and he gathered his large holy army to battle against demons and gods. After the battle, Fūjin and Raijin were captured, and the Buddha bound the two demons to work for heaven.
Later, in a more modern era, Raijin decided to get an avatar. Reasons for why he'd do this are unknown. Maybe he wanted temporary break from his job, or maybe he wanted a hand at it. Whatever the reason, he went down to Earth to find a suitable person to carry out his duties. What better place to start than at Paragon City, the City of Heroes, he thought.
Alex Haas was walking in the Kings Row neighborhood. She wasn't really walking, more sulking. She had a terrible morning, a terrible class, and all-in-all, a terrible day in general. Without going into details, Alex was feeling pretty useless and 'emo' that day. She didn't plan committing suicide or anything, it was just one of those days. Anyway, as she was on her way to her home in Galaxy City. This was before the Coming Storm, back when Galaxy City was a little bit safer. There was a cry for help and a beg for mercy around the corner and into the alley. A young thug, branding the colors of the Skulls gang, was mugging and harassing a weak old man. Alex, upon seeing this, had no idea what to do. There wasn't a hero in sight, and the decision laid heavily on her. Adrenaline kicked in, and she gustily shouted at the thug to stop. They got into a little brawl and the thug yanked out his pocket-knife and stabbed the girl. After the blood spill, the Skull got scared and took off running.
The old man knelt down, next to her, and revealed himself to be Raijin. He admitted that she was not what he was looking for, but made a deal. He could give her a portion of his power to become his avatar, or he could let her bleed to death and die, and possibly go to hell. The options were very limited for Alex, and she had no choice but to accept the offer. She was to become a hero and protect the world from any danger. From then on, Alex started to become the hero known as Swift Volt.
