Background

SystemPattern is a Citizen of the robotic civilisation of Origin, a highly advanced and active world-city in another dimension. Following the end of its education, it decided that the first work it wanted to engage in was to satisfy its interest in anthropology, and accepted contracts to write as a correspondent for the Frontier Report and the Extradimensional Cultural Engineering Journal. It was dispatched via dimensional portal to a recently-identified world whose own dimensional travels had drawn notice of Original scientists- Earth.

Following some... interesting... misunderstandings related to its original vaguely-arachnoid shell, it proceeded to construct a new shell, cannibalising its original one for components, on a model resembling a female human. As 'she' grew more aware of the situation on Earth, and of the unacceptably high level of 'sociopathic aberrancy' amongst humans, she resolved to take on Magisterial duties here on Earth, rooting out chaos and crime that was a threat to innocents. Besides, it made for good stories for the Frontier Report.

She has since established a strong relationship with the Hazard-Guard and related groups, deployed a series of Tactical Assault Unit robots to help provide military coverage against Arachnos and other threats, and provided materials supply contracts to certain Earth high-tech firms. She remains an alien to human culture and human government, not necessarily trusted by all, but nonetheless steadfast and supremely self-assured in the correctness of the choices she has made.

Shells

SystemPattern maintains three separate shells to contain the cognition core that is her 'self':

Performance Shell
This is her 'primary' shell, and the one with the highest performance characteristics. It is extremely heavily armored in a black metallic alloy unknown to human technology, with a high-capacity coolant system to handle the cooling needs of her cognition core. It is capable of achieving remarkable land speeds, has low-level superstrength, is capable of limited self-repairs in the field, and is mounted with assorted integral weapons, including a pressurised, supercooled air cutting jet, visor-mounted laser emitters, and a light magnetic acceleration cannon in one arm. As with all her shells, it mounts various high-definition sensors and has mechanisms for removal and transference of her cognition core.
Human-Emulation Shell
This shell is optimised for easier social interaction with humans, more closely resembling the human form. Nonetheless, it is still obviously robotic, with metallic hands, elbow, and knee joints; gray rubber skin; obviously robotic eyes; and slate-blue hair. It also has similar heavy-duty cooling systems, and significant (although more unobtrusive) armor, but sacrifices weapon systems, some degree of strength, and some degree of protection. It can be pressed into service at need for hazardous duty, but will almost certainly require maintenance afterwards.
Maintenance Shell
This is essentially a stripped-down shell for the purpose of having something to be in while the other two are being repaired.

Abilities

In combat, SystemPattern is heavily-armored, armed with an array of weapons (including repurposed elements from her own cooling systems), fast, precise, and equipped with sensors and analytic capabilities that allow her to choose optimal tactics for herself and her allies.

Out of combat, she is exceedingly durable, intelligent beyond human capability, and has deep talents in the physical sciences, engineering, mathematics, and anthropology. Despite the robotic stereotype, she is fully capable of emotion, although she is logical and efficient by temperament.

Limitations

Her cognition core requires extremely low temperatures for proper function; extremes of heat are exhausting and hazardous to her, requiring her cooling systems to work overtime. She requires (admittedly small amounts of) antimatter fuel to function, which she manufactures in the lab she uses as her personal base. Without access to the lab and the facilities to swap out coolant and maintain herself, she could be forced into shutdown.

She has made some study of magic while here, in order to understand how it influences the world, but nonetheless is poorly-suited to understanding much of magic and its symbolic and metaphorical logic. She further can be frustrated by what she views as human irrationalities, which leads her to be reluctant to cooperate with human organisations she views as fundamentally unprincipled, including Vanguard and most governmental organisations. She is willing to cooperate, to a limited extent, with the PPD and elements of the Army, both of whom are directly doing their best to protect others, as she sees it, but the City and Federal governments as a whole receive no respect from her- and she, in turn is largely distrusted for her apparent willingness to consider herself a law unto herself. She mostly gets away with it because the PPD is so overstretched they'll take any allies they can.

Original Institutions Referenced

Frontier Report

The Frontier Report is a general-audience journal on Origin, focusing on general cultural reporting. It could be compared to National Geographic.

Extradimensional Cultural Engineering Journal

An Original journal focusing explicitly on the technological methods and solutions of the colorful natives of other dimensions. Contains such things as discussions of the manufacturing methods and engineering of automobiles and blenders.

Magistrates

Magistrates are Original Citizens who have chosen to act to guarantee the persons and property of others, acting as insurance agents, investigators, law enforcement, and justice system in one. There are no formal requirements to become one, but becoming one tends to result in heightened scrutiny by every other Magistrate on Origin once they learn somebody else has entered the business. The self-policing of the profession is efficient and rigorous.
