Background
Desmond and Sandra Adams were both obsessed with creating the perfect being. Each was a genius in the field of genetic mutation. They were competitors and rivals. After a particularly heated debate over what abilities made a being perfect Dr. and Dr. Adams decided to have a child. Her birth was engineered by the best scientists in the field of reproduction and genetic engineering. However after a few years, they were both disappointed with the child they had made. She was normal and neither of them were satisfied with that. They made up their minds to make her more exceptional through gene therapy. From the time she was 3 years old her parents had given her weekly "treatments" for an ailment they claimed she had. When Tiffany was 10 years old each parent took it upon themselves to change each of their cocktails, neither being satisfied with her being just smarter, faster and stronger. Her father, Desmond, created a therapy that would give Tiffany the ability to manipulate elements (Fire and Ice). Sandra, her mother, focused her therapy on developing Tiffany's mental abilities. Desmond and Sandra were professional competitors and although they could have had any number of guinea pigs for their experiments, they would have had to in turn reveal their research to each other. So each of them used their daughter as the subject of their experiments without informing the other. Their experiment was a success, however not how each of them believed. At the age of 14 Tiffany manifested ice manipulation powers and a distinctly different personality, Taisetsu. Her parents' superiors discovered the unauthorized experiments and took Tiffany into their custody. They began their own experiments that involved less gene therapy and more endurance type testing.
Dr. Aeon discovered Desmond and Sandra Adams had successfully mutated their daughter Tiffany. Enraged he had them all taken into custody. Tiffany was poked and prodded and tested in inhumane ways. Already unstable because of the experiments her parents conducted on her, a new personality emerged.
After hours of observing Tiffany screaming in a corner of her assigned room, the observers realized her eyes were emitting a strange bright light. When the lead scientist Dr Rocha came in to examine her he discovered she had bony knobs growing from her shoulder blades. They were causing her a lot of pain but none of the staff seemed concerned with that. Two days later, Dr Rocha had her strapped down in order to perform exploratory surgery to examine the growths and the changes in her skeletal structure. What he learned was that her skeletal structure was changing in such a way as to accommodate a new pair of limbs on her back. The idea of a physical mutation he could observe through its entire process excited Dr Rocha, so he took Tiffany on as his pet project.
As the weeks passed and Tiffany's extra limbs became wings, Dr Rocha noticed that Tiffany no longer huddled in the corner crying and whimpering. Instead she fought anyone sent into the room tooth and nail. She especially relished attacking the orderlies sent into her room who may have thought a teenage girl would be no match for their charms. During his physical examinations he discovered her body temperature was dropping and she had a much higher tolerance for pain, at times even seeming to enjoy it. After a few months time, her wings had grown fully and she was capable of limited flight. Her body was cold to the touch and her hair had turned blue. Her eyes still emitted an eerie bright light but although she was blind she could still sense when an object was placed in her path. She refused to answer to the name Tiffany anymore. Instead she insisted on being called Theresa.

Theresa is Tempe's darker side. Physically blinded by the pain of her initial emergence she is distrusting of others. All she "sees" around her is people wanting to take advantage of her. She is a masochist and a sadist. She is chaotic and does things only for her own pleasure. This usually means causing trouble for other people. She revels in the many enemies she has made, and only makes friends in order to make the betrayal all the much sweeter. Theresa emerges when Tempe is feeling any negative emotion in an extreme way (terrified, depressed, angry, etc).
Taisetsu is the protector personality. She is aware that she is an alternate personality of Tempe's. She emerges when Tempe feels she is in danger, whether emotionally or physically. She has been described as a "cold heartless bitch". While it is true that her powers manifest as cold she does indeed have a heart. She just doesn't have any emotions. She has no connections to anyone but Tempe.
Tempe (pronounced tem pee)is the base personality. She is Tiffany all grown up. She changed her name because after discovering her parents betrayal she felt that Tiffany Adams no longer existed. You can imagine her surprise when the personality of Tiffany Adams emerged. She is aware of all the personalities that inhabit her mind currently. She actively avoids making friends because explaining the others is too difficult for her and most people don't stick around for an explanation. She keeps to herself and avoids situations that may trigger Theresa to emerge. She is very protective of Tiffany but feels that Tiffany is the one personality that causes her the most trouble because she is always getting involved with other people. Tempe has heightened senses which allow her to have become amazingly adept at firearms, in particular the sniper rifle.
Tiffany is unaware of any other personality. She believes that Tai is a nickname given to her by people who she has befriended. This is understandable because Tiffany is a 14 year old girl. She is a complete innocent and comes across as incredibly self-centered. She grew up sheltered and spoiled. Her parents indulged her every whim but kept her on a short leash. Who she was with and where she went was very tightly controlled but it was done so subtly, she was never aware of the manipulation. She is incredibly bright and her senses are heightened. She is incredibly strong for her size and unnaturally agile. She doesn't realize how others see her most of the time, she is mostly concerned with having fun. She emerges when Tempe is stressed or frustrated. She loves being around people and strives to be the center of attention.
The Present
Surprising herself, Tempe Phillips has found a home with The Midnight Refuge. Being introduced to the group, which she affectionately refers to as "the nuthouse", by their leader, Xeden. She has made friends and most of them are even aware of her Dissociative Identity Disorder, however only a small portion of those have actually encountered her alternate personalities.
Contrary to what she always believed, spending time with people actually reduced the emergence of her alternates, allowing her to finally find some semblance of a normal life. It would however come to an end with a particularly destructive emergence of Theresa.
Just like any normal day, Tempe began by listening to the police scanner for calls of help. Being with the nuthouse meant she didn't have to work but she just couldn't sit around all day not doing something to pay back their generosity. There were many calls but the robbery in progess call got her attention because it was Crey. They truly believed they were above the law! Tempe knew if she could just get a bead on their boss she could end it fast and clean without anyone getting hurt. She showed up at Exchange Bank in Brickstown and scouted for the best position to snipe from while the PPD explained to her the situation. Two bank tellers were being held hostage by a private security force believed to be from Crey Corp. The only way in was through the ventilation system. She made her way in and settled herself in an air duct with a partial view of the vault door. She had made a plan that involved the PPD rushing in after she took out both men holding the hostages. The timing was crucial. She had a full view of the hostage holder and taking down both of them would not be a problem with her enhanced agility. Her overconfidence led her to overlook a small detail. The deadman switch in the first man's hand. The second man was falling over from Tempe's second successful shot when the bomb went off. The vault door had been rigged of course, but no one had been aware that so had the hostages. She was knocked unconscious by the blast.
When she awoke, two weeks had passed and she was strapped to a bed in metal restraints. She had been committed to the hospital's pyschiatric ward. This particular ward specialized in the mutant and otherwise super powered insane. Over the course of her first few days in the ward she came to learn what exactly happened after the ill fated explosion. After being pulled from the wreckage of the bank, she discovered that both hostages had died as well as two police officers who had managed to make it into the bank before the explosion. Those deaths hanging over her caused her such despair that Theresa was able to emerge while Tempe hid inside herself. Theresa managed to have 10 days of her type of destructive fun until she was eventually captured. Because of the state of her victims, she was remanded to the hospital for immediate treatment. As their is no treatment for psychopathy, she was scheduled for psychosurgery. Tempe was released from the hospital one month after the surgery was performed. She returned to the nuthouse and to her home hoping that the surgery was a success and she would be forever rid of her alternate personalities.
However upon returning to the Refuge, she discovered that no one has missed her and in fact many had not even noticed her absence. Her friends had moved on in their lives and she was left clutching to old memories of good times. New recruits had joined the Refuge while she had been away and Tempe made an effort to introduce herself to them. She found she had an easier time relating to people now, than she did before the surgery. And whereas before she was largely uninterested in her own sexuality and left those urges and feeling for Theresa to deal with, she discovered she was experiencing a heightened state of arousal without the emergence of Theresa. Without the constant emergence of alternates whenever she felt any strong emotion, Tempe was able to learn how to have fun and be light hearted without Tiffany. In particular she has found a friend to share her sense of humor with a rather new recruit to the Refuge.
As much fun as Tempe is having now, she still has doubts that the surgery was a success. Her doubts proved valid when Taisetsu emerged during an angry rant on Crey Corp and their "research". However, the emergence of Taisetsu did reveal new information to her. Her child like innocent personality Tiffany, was no longer around. Tempe hoped that the same could be said of Theresa but it is hard to tell because Theresa was always a deeply buried personality. It would not be long before she made her appearance though. While she was at the D one day she had an interesting encounter with a boy named Collin with the extraordinary ability to spew forth radiation from his body. Because of the genetic manipulation she went through as a child Tempe is largely immune to the effects of radiation. However during her encounter with Collin, who was in the middle of a full blown tantrum, spewing forth enough radiation to mimic a nuclear reactor he placed his hand on her face. That simple act would have melted the face off any normal human. She didn't think anything of it until moments after Collin ran off in tears. Doubled over in pain she was able to make her way to the base. Shortly after, she lost consciousness and Theresa emerged.
