Technical Genius

From simplistic automated building blocks to the robotic death squad of today, Tech Kid, or Mark Barrel, has come a long way from home.

Biography

Childhood

From the beginning Mark had much potential. Unknown to him, he was a born technopath and the ability never truly manifest until he was much older. It did, however, shift his interest to that of the cold machine and science from normal childhood pleasures. At the age of four he had developed his own form of robots from building block and scrap metal. He managed to install a functional, but primitive A.I. system in each. These toys did not go unnoticed as a mob boss took notice of the potential in Mark and sent a group of thugs to 'liberate' him from his parents. After breaking into their small home in an undisclosed location in Missouri, a hero arrived on the scene, but not before disregarding the threats upon Mark's parent's lives. Suffice to say, Mark was rescued, but both parents were killed by the thugs. In his anger and sorrow, Mark's advanced mind almost instantly thought up a nearly perfect murder and and used the thug's finger to pull the trigger on his savior, completing his first act of violence and evil. He was never tried for the act as it was never discovered that he was guilty of the crime.

They Grow Up so Fast

Time passed and he bounced between foster homes until he graduated from high school at the age of twelve. At this time he was building computers superior to those typically produced during this age, and raking in a decent profit for his work. Using the money from his inventions and technical support to some people, he attended multiple colleges for a variety of courses. He never finished a single class in college, but he didn't need to. During his free time he began to re-create his childhood toys to be smarter, faster, and stronger. By the time he left his final college, he had a small army of automated robots robbing toy stores, gas stations, and other small businesses. After numerous crimes the police finally tracked the radio waves he used to control his robots to his location and in the attempted apprehension, nine officers lay dead at the hands on his tiny robots. After a few hours of intense combat and motion the batteries died in each 'toy' and he was inevitably captured and sent to the Ziggurski Penitentiary in Brickstown.

Life Behind Bars

Mark Barrel remained in the prison for about a month before the large scale Arachnos prison break. During the first few days, he was a prime target for many of the inmates as a 'partner,' however they soon learned he was not to be disturbed when he created a three-man robotic guardian squad with the parts he snuck into the prison. In one circumstance, a group of five prisoners were found pinned to a wall so that their eviscerated body parts spelled out 'leave me alone.' During his time, he gathered numerous contacts among the gangs of Paragon and the Isles. He met a Family enforcer, Tsoo tattooist, and a Crey technician. More importantly, he met a woman that he called 'Big Sis.' 'Big Sis,' or Sally Terdin a serial killer known for her suits of incredibly high-tech armor, became an inspiration and mentor in armor creation. Unfortunately, in the Breakout she was killed by a wayward piece of shrapnel during one of the Longbow-Arachnos battles. With a heavy heart, Mark left with the pilot and later, met up with Kalinda.

Early Isle Days

Kalinda found Mark to be a 'Destined One.' (You know, Recluse's pet project) She quickly put the semi-socipathic teenager to work for Arachnos. While he was a bit of a loose cannon due to his 'I'm a teen and do what I want,' rebellious phase, he always completed his tasks with a brutal efficiency. After a few days of adjusting to the Isle's way of life met up with a man using the alias 'Nacht Sniper.' He was absolutely insane, and incredibly annoying at first, but Mark found an ally in this crack shot Fifth Coulmn loyalist. He had found his first (for lack of a better word) 'friend' on the Isles. They were typically found together commiting any manner of murder, robbery, arson, vandalism, or general mayhem. (Typically inflicted upon the Council, Nacht's favorite punching bag) Eventually Mark fooled his friend into signing a guardianship form, allowing him to start his own business under Nacht's name until he became of age. This company is known as 'Number Five Pillar Industries,' a tribute to the Fifth Coulmn, even though Mark himself has little concern with the Fifth's affairs. Another HIGHLY important note of this time period is the inject of self-regulating, multiplying, semi-intelligent nanites into his blood stream. These little beauties regulate his health, body temperature, cure many poisons, and even disperse vitamens and hormones that reduced hunger. The hormones sometimes have side-effects such as mental perversion, hyperactivity and impulsive behavior.

Virus Variables

Being assigned to deal with a Council threat, Mark was sent to a Dr. Shelly Percey, a researcher in the topics of nictus, allowing him to disguise himself as a galaxy agent. Unfortunately for Mark, his nanos didn't quite enjoy the idea of nictus infusion. Once the initial effects wore off, shards of the injection remained in his tiny cell-like helpers and used them to multiply. During talks with a hero, his muddled mind boggled over his crimes and he injected himself with a greater concentration of the 'Nano-Nictus Virusm' as he deemed it, speeding the process up incredibly. Instead of being taken over however, it forced his nanos to release large amounts of poison (usually converted into anti-venom) and absolutely shut his body down. Fearing their master's death, Big Bang (see 'Mark's Robots') took him to Nacht, who had a plan to revive his devious Techie, and partner in crime. With an injection of the same juice that made Michael Morder into Nacht Sniper, Mark was brought back around. The serum reinforced his weak immune and bodily systems, but rebooted his nanites. For a few weeks, he was pale, had fangs, and spoke in a 'vreakish' German accent. He has since overcome that.

Ressurection Aftermath

After the serum's effects kicked Mark in the face and woke him up, things went back to normal. Sort of. His tactics became fierce, and much more brutal that before. Toture and eviseration became common place as his violent tendencies grew. It escalated to a point where every job was no longer a battle, but an absolute slaughter. Rather than bringing six of his robotic minions, he would use about thirty. Thirty self-conscious, powerful, mobile tanks, all of them completely bound to the command guantlet on his wrist, and in emergencies, a brain implant.

Weapons Union

For a long while, Mark left the Isles on a bit of a hiatus. He's never told anyone where he went or why, but when he returned he was much more child-like than before. Less violent anyways. By this time, Nacht Sniper had joined a mercenary company by the name of the Weapons Union, run by none other than Nic Williams, Johnni, and himself. Upon joining he met loads of new comrades, some of them in the alliances the Union had formed. (See Friends and Enemies) To this day, he remains within the Union and has climbed the ranks to be Nacht's second-in-command along with Mad Blood Morgan.
