Abigail Moore

Abigail Moore was content with her relatively quiet life in the small hometown of her birth. Honestly helpful from a young age, Abigail, with the blessing of her family and friends, decided to move to the big city to continue her education to become a nurse. Finding an ideal medical school, Abby was finally able to leave the confines of her hometown for the first time.

The change to the big city was easily overcome, and Abby was quickly able to adapt to her new life at Cinota Medical School. Some habits die hard, however, and though she was friendly with her fellow students, Abby still kept to herself. For the first few years, she would contact her parents on a weekly basis as she had offered to do, but even her parents encouraged her to discontinue this practice and make new friends. For the first time in her life, Abby found herself unable to use her parent’s advice, and she slowly continued to remove herself from interacting with her fellow students.

Even now, ask any of the student body or most professors who were at Cinota College during Abby’s time, and they won’t be able to remember much about her, if they remember her at all. This, of course, brought her to the attention of the members of a dark cult that worshiped the nightmarish godling Crykst

The Cult of Crykst

Members of the cult of Crykst were looking for a special sacrifice for a ritual that the believed their demonic pacts required take place once every 600 years. Using their contacts scattered throughout all levels of society, the cult began researching the perfect target for their plans. Most importantly, they required a pure soul, one free of any of the corruptions of modern day life. They also needed someone who would be able to fully succumb to the horrors that awaited them in Crykst’s native realm. The cult believed they found their target in Abigail Moore.

On her way back to her dorm one night, Abby was kidnapped by agents of the cult and taken to one of their hidden holding cells. Missing persons reports were filed by Cinota College and Abby’s parents, but as the cult had infiltrated local law enforcement, officials just happened to never find Abby’s location. Months had passed, and Cinota gave up hope on the search. Abby’s parents held on to the hope that she would found alive one day, but even to their dying day, their prayers were never answered.

The Sacrifice

Abby was held captive by the cult for 6 days. During this time, while she was treated sufficiently to keep her alive and still pure, she was also prepared for the horrors she was to face. Largely kept in sensory deprivation and solitary confinement, Abby’s food was also drugged to keep her sedate yet to allow her mind to expand on her ordeal. On the evening of the 6th day, when Abby was barely able to hold onto her sanity, the cult began preparations for the ritual.

As the cult began about the ritual deep within one of their hidden bunkers, Abby was strapped to a sacrificial altar. While the ritual proceeded, a portal to Crykst’s realm opened in front of Abby's altar. Even with the cult’s attempt to psychologically prepare Abby for what she was to encounter, it wasn’t sufficient. Her brief glimpse into the nightmarish home of Crykst was more than enough to send her into an adrenalin fueled panic. Unable to comprehend what her eyes were trying to tell her, Abby broke her bonds to claw her own eyes out. While Abby was still partially strapped to the altar, Crykst itself came through the portal, sending similar waves of insanity producing shock amongst the cult members.

The true purpose of the ritual was lost to the cult generations ago. What they had assumed would be a ritual to appease their master, was instead a doomsday spell that would give the godling Crykst an avatar on Earth to spread its nightmarish vision of reality. As Abby lapsed into a catatonic state on the sacrificial altar, Crykst slaughtered the rest of the cultists in a grisly and painful fashion. Satisfied with the last work it would be able to personally commit on Earth for the next 600 years, Crykst took its true prize, Abby, back to its realm.

The Birth of the Attendant

Once back in its home dimension, Crykst began transforming Abby to its personal Attendant. The cult of Crykst only had the vaguest hint of what its home realm was truly like, as time passes quite differently there; a fraction of a blink of an eye in the mortal realm would be the closest comparison to 100 years in the nightmare dimension. And as Crykst is god of its home dimension, whatever its twisted consciousness wishes to happen is possible. If it desired Abigail’s mortal flesh to function for as long as it needed, so be it.

For what would be considered 6 weeks in the mortal realm, the remnants of Abigail’s psyche and physical form were modified to suite the nightmare god’s needs. Once Crykst was finally satisfied with its new Attendant, she was sent back to the mortal world.

Powers

Nightmare Necromancy

The Attendant’s primary ability is the power to summon abominations resembling long dead humans. These beings, which are believed to have links to various negative states of mind, are complete thralls to the needs of the Attendant. They will protect her, fight for her, and die again for her with seemingly no regrets.

A secondary power of the Attendant’s is the ability to command a black energy of unknown origin. This energy can be used by the Attendant to weaken her foes in a variety of ways.

Hellbound Teleportation

The Attendant’s mystical nature also gives her several other abilities. She is able to travel by teleporting through Crykst’s realm, and she can also bring other to her location by pulling them through the same dimension. As the Attendant has been conditioned to the horrors of the hell dimension, the teleportation experience does not seem to affect her. Those she teleports however, will be subjected to hell itself for a barely measurable amount of time, and the effects of the experience will linger with all but the most hardened of souls.

Communication

In addition to her other powers, the Attendant is also capable of a limited form of telepathy. She can send mental images to convey her thoughts, but due to Crykst's influence, any image that the Attendant telepathically sends, regardless of what she wishes to express, is incredibly morbid in nature. Whether the Attendant has been twisted to the point that she can only think of things in such a ghastly fashion is not known, as precise and direct communication with her can be difficult. As she is physically incapable of actual speech (due to having the ability to talk forcibly removed from her body), when she still wishes to communicate directly, the Attendant prefers her telepathy. If she is pressed by a being that is incapable of receiving her telepathic images, the Attendant can summon one of her abominations to have it speak for her.

Trivia

((Blame TVtropes.com for the idea. This whole thing came about from my being way too amused with the term Nightmare Fuel Station Attendant.))
