Extended Biography

What follows is an in-depth history of heroine Kaira Daniels aka The Eye of Arlesia

The Arlesian Valley

Nestled deep in the mountains of Pennsylvania, exists a small valley at the center of which is a temple. This place is a haven and place of worship for the goddess Arlesia. Though they are few, she cares for her followers by providing shelter from the perils of the outside world and a life of peaceful harmony with nature. The original settlers of this land have no knowledge of the valley, but the occasional wanderer has managed to find it over the centuries. It is rare, but most who come find the protection of the goddess and care of her followers fulfills all their needs in the world. They rarely leave, in fact in the past two hundred years only twice has anyone left the valley. Both of them were the chosen "Eyes of Arlesia". The Eyes are a kind of emissary that the goddess sends to the outside world in times of great need.

The first time of such need would come in year 2002, but that isn't where this story begins.

The Thief

In the year 1990 a professional thief by the name of Gregory Daniels would get the job that was to be his big score. After this one he could retire. Like any professional he never asked what he was going to be taking and he would never know what it was either. All he know was it was some kind of new technology being worked on by some brand new upstart corporation. In the future this company would come to be known as the famous Portal Corporation, but back then the all the technology behind extra-dimensional travel was still just a fun theory scientists talked about over drinks. That was, of course, with the exception of a few scientists who claimed to have found evidence that Earth had already been visited by an extra-dimensional civilization.

Greg had no idea what the thing he was taking was supposed to do, but somewhere around when his name went out to every government agency in the US he figured it must have been important. Having already made the dropoff for the item he had stolen he didn't have anything to give the people hunting him anymore, and he decided it would be better to simply disappear. He'd been a professional thief for going on twenty years now, so he was pretty adept at staying hidden. It got harder and harder for him to move about though with the technology of the 90's making it worse as the years went on. Towards the end of 1993 he decided to retreat into the wilderness where the advancing technology of the twentieth century could not easily follow him.

It was at this time that he stumbled upon the Arlesian Valley, and the goddess Arlesia granted him sanctuary despite his past. It was there that he fell in love and made his home as one of the protected followers of the goddess.

Kaira

Greg and Ariana, one of the priestesses of Arlesia, were married within months of his arrival and less than a year after they had a child. Kaira was born on May 20, 1992, the day of the vernal equinox. On that day the Arlesian Tear sparkled once more, something it had not done in centuries. This child would be the next Eye of Arlesia, and be tasked with aiding the outside world in the name of the goddess. As a priestess of Arlesia, her mother Ariana honored this calling and was overjoyed for her daughter, and after a time her father accepted it as well. He resolved to make sure that Kaira was as prepared for her calling as possible.

As she grew it became readily apparent that she shared much more in common with her father than just his looks. She was mischievious, impetuous, impatient, and had even been caught stealing desserts from the village cook while they cooled in his windowsill. Her father took pride in her antics, probably moreso than he should have. Many nights he would curl up with his little girl and tell her of his adventures out in the world. These stories fueld Kaira's fantasies about what it would be like when she finally left.

Once she was old enough she began learning to fight. The people of the Arlesian Valley were all fairly well trained as their goddess was a warrior herself and to follow her was to learn the warrior's way. The Eyes of Arlesia in particular were required to be peerless fighters and in this Kaira did not disappoint. She may have had many qualities from her father that were not becoming of one in her calling, but her abilities in combat were second to none. In addition to her uncanny speed and reflexes in combat, she also possessed a unique ability of her mothers bloodline that allowed her to sense the spiritual aura's of others. She managed to mold this ability into her style as well as a couple of dirty tricks that her father taught her too. She continued practicing until she was eight years old...

The Rikti Invasion

It had happened, the Rikti had invaded and the backlash from the event was felt even in the seclusion of the Arlesian Valley. The Tear sparkled in the temple calling to the one who would be the Eye of the goddess and help save the world from the invaders. Kaira was far too young, but one not called as an Eye at birth could still wield the jewel in battle if the need was great enough. The volunteer ended up being one of Kaira's cousins, a girl twice her age and far less skilled than Kaira herself. Kaira would always remember their final sparring session when she bested the elder girl in three out of three rounds.

Upon her departure there was much fanfare given the heroic girl who had taken up the mantle of her goddess, but Kaira knew it would be the last time she saw her. It was only days later that the Tear reappeared in the temple, as it did when any of it's wielders fell in battle. There was sadness in the valley for the first time in decades, but for Kaira it only steeled her resolve to be the best she could so no other would have to take her place again.

Leaving Home

An Eye of Arlesia, according to the ancient texts, comes of age when they turn eighteen. At that time they are given the Tear and sent off to claim their destiny. For Kaira this time would come at the just before her sixteenth birthday. The Tear had once again begun to call for a wielder, the goddess had sensed an impending danger and wanted her chosen warrior to be ready to combat it. The villagers had already called for volunteers again as Kaira was still considered too young, but she wasn't about to let anyone else die in her place.

That night she snuck into the temple and took the Tear from it's resting place. As she slipped it around her neck she felt her body filled with magical energy. There was a bright flash and she was immediately garbed in the skintight attire of a true Eye of Arlesia. A low whistle came out of the corner of the room as her father stepped out of the shadows. Her father had known her plan all along, but he was not there to dissuade her. Greg Daniels did not want to see his little girl leave but he knew the resolve that drove her. In the end he helped her to escape the valley, an act that would result in many weeks of torment for him at home. He gave her some names of people to see if she ran into trouble and told her he hoped she would return one day. Kaira swore to him that she would return when she came of age and he let her go.

Her first stop would be Paragon, the "City of Heroes" as her father had called it. In this world if there was to be any evil to be thwarted that would be the best place to look...

Group Affiliations

Kaira is currently a member of Scorn. She is also closely affiliated with the Galacto-Rangers but due to her father's criminal history she is unable to join the more public superhero group.

Personality

Kaira carries all the worst qualities of her father. She's reserved only for as long as she doesn't know someone, but the second things devolve into a fight or if she becomes comfortable around people these qualities jump to the fore. In combat she is cocky and despite her near mastery of the martial arts, does sometimes make mistakes because of it. Tactically she is far too impatient and generally does not really plan much for things ahead of time. She is also not used to working in a team and often wonders off to face things alone and does sometimes need to be reminded about the actual goals of a mission outside of fighting the bad guys.

On the good side of things though, she is a generally happy girl and is glad to help people at any turn. She is ferociously loyal to those she considers her friends and would die to protect others.

Powers and Abilities

What follows is an in-depth description of heroine Kaira Daniels', aka The Eye of Arlesia, combat abilities

Magical Powers

Magical Strike - Arlesia's Tear infuses it's wielder with magical energy that manifests in a similar way to electricity. A single touch from a skilled user is normally enough to incapacitate the average person. Legend has it that extremely powerful Eyes of the past have been able to call far more devastating power from it.

Aura Sense - A gift from her mother's bloodline, Kaira can sense the spiritual energy of others when she is near them. This sense can give a general idea of someones current emotional state and, in the case of supers, something of a preview of their abilities. Unlike others with similar abilities Kaira cannot actually see auras, only sense them.

Master of the Martial Arts

Impenetrable Defense - While by no means a speedster (she can't run at supersonic speeds) Kaira is still far faster than the average person. Her training at home mostly focused on defense as with the Tear she should only need to avoid her opponents long enough to strike once. Kaira has combined this with her other abilities to become almost impossible to hit. So much so that it was believed at one point that she must have some sort of ability to see ahead of her opponents in combat in order to react as fast as she does.

Ninja Arts - Though still in training, Kaira is able to mimic some the arts employed by ninja clans. She can shield her mind against attack as well as perform a number of acrobatic maneuvers for which ninjas are known. Her bloodline and magical implemement, however, prevent her from performing any of the more advanced ninja techniques.

Equipment

Arlesia's Tear - Crystallized essence of the goddes Arlesia. Once bound to it's wielder it can never be removed, except by death, and it grants it's wielder great power. Those truly born to wield the Tear are always able to draw more power from it than those who simply use it in times of need.
