The Nether Thing

ID as it Appears in Game
A creature of shadow, easily summonable by even those without magical talent. But at what price?
The origins of the Nether Thing are shrouded in mystery. Tales of science gone wrong are as likely as those of ancient evils and sorcerous manipulations. What is known is that the Nether Thing will follow the commands of those that summon him, often with devastating results. Skilled sorcerors can call upon him with little risk, while amateur occultists have been found with missing heads and the proper incantations in their laps.
- Those with special detection equipment or mystical sense see that the Nether Thing is less like a creature taking up space than a void with intellect.
- Psychics find the Nether Thing's thoughts too alien to truly comprehend.
- The Nether Thing will work for kittens *drools*
Origin
Nether Thing's secret origin can be found at the Inevitable Evolution forums. ICly, nobody should assume to know it without consent.

Personality
The Nether Thing's personality is hard to pin down, but its actions are somewhat predictable. It speaks in broken words only occasionally. It often crouches before those it serves, growls for attention, spits up treasures, and chases cats while drooling.
Update: The Nether Thing has recently regained some intelligence after absorbing some of the thoughts and lifeforce of one who sought to worship it. It speaks in very fragmented sentences and still does not understand very complex ideas. Enjoys being patted and fed.
Updated Update: After devouring Calystix the Shaper, the Nether Thing has become far more intelligent than before. He now seems capable of complex thought and has a knack for creating bizarre radio wave based contraptions. These revelations have led him to don a superhero outfit, though he is conflicted as to what a superhero is supposed to do.
Currently: Nether Thing briefly owned a helmet capable of invoking the source of his intellect, making him temporarily quite intelligent. However, this helmet was destroyed and not yet repaired. Nether Thing's intellect has been developing steadily, capable of reading, learning, and science, but not so much in the way of social graces.
Powers
The Nether Thing is physically strong and monstrously tough, but most of this derives from the fact he is made up of a hungering, sentient void. The nether substance of his form allows him to drain energy from things and decide his own mass.
The Nether Thing's mind is described by some as a 'sea of alien impulse upon which float scraps of human like thought'. This makes his mind extraordinarily hard to read and effect for most psychics. The leaking of this intelligence can send men into fits of fear and madness.
Abilities
Affiliations
The Nether Thing is currently controlled by Grim Lynn of Inevitable Evolution. However, that being stated, if he is on a mission, the contact has summoned him for the specific task to be done.
Update: While easily summoned, most of the ability to command Nether Thing is based on his own need to please people, sharing their thoughts empathically on some level. He has grown intelligent enough to ignore the impulse when he feels like it.
The Golden Age
The Nether Thing an old monster and has been used by various villains over time. Naturally, this means he has battled lots of heroes over time, including...
* Freedom torch- Fought a battle that, by its conclusion, had leveled a city block * Victory Soldier- Reconciled recently. The Nether Thing now has his cape. * Zadkiel the Merciful- * Hawkseye- Her parents defeated the Nether Thing in their heroic past * California Sun- Summoned by his uncle the White Dwarf and hurt in his task * Sushi Schoolgirl Squad - Fought a whole mess of them, along with others, and was soundly thrashed. * ((Insert other appropriate Golden Age type heroes here))
Miscellenia
The Nether Thing is mostly a tribute to old Marvel monsters like the Man-Thing & Fing Fang Foom.
